I wish you would do a show about what clothes we need when we retire. I just retired and I think I need some casual clothes. I’ve been dressing in faded tees and droopy knit shorts around the house and I need to do better
@denisedorsey28894 ай бұрын
When I notice that something isn’t being worn, I make a conscious decision to wear it that week. Then I analyze the garment. Did I enjoy wearing it? If so, I try to find new ways to style it. If I didn’t like wearing it, I ask myself what didn’t work. Color? Fit? The feel of it? That annoying closure? Then I decide to fix it (if it’s just a small thing) or donate it. Sometimes I decide that I just don’t like the way it looks on me. I try to restyle it and if that doesn’t do it for me, I’ll donate it. I try to be deliberate about clearing out things unworn so that I learn what doesn’t work for me. I make fewer mistakes now when making purchases. Great video.

That red blouse is just beautiful and beautiful on you! Also enjoying the outdoors in this video. Great discussion. I tend to think I need more than I really do, so too many pairs of jeans, shoes I might not even wear once in a season, etc. I have favorite things I wear most often and everything else sits there - shopping specifically for the wardrobe "holes" and not having a ton of stuff works better, but it requires a lot of thought!
@shoppingonchampagne4 ай бұрын
Thanks for your kind words-I'm glad you enjoyed the outdoor video! As for the "holes" in your wardrobe, keep a small notepad in your closet, and when you get dressed, you'll be able to note things you're missing. I find it much less overwhelming than going into a store with nothing in mind. Let me know how it works for you 😀
@MaryCunningham-u5j4 ай бұрын
I've been doing it and it does work and is good for cutting impulse purchases and making sure the workhorse basics are in place - I think the difference is that a lot of times when we shop we want to be surprised and excited by something new, something we didn't know was "out there," that feels like a discovery or even a gift, whereas shopping with a plan feels like going to the supermarket - I need chicken and I'm not here to buy chocolate chip cookies 😄! Yes, we can have some chocolate chip cookies now and then once we've got the basic nutrition covered, but at heart we often just want to buy "dessert" without thinking about what we really need because it doesn't feel like fun. We do crave novelty and change to a certain extent. Thanks for your reply!@@shoppingonchampagne
@shoppingonchampagne4 ай бұрын
@@MaryCunningham-u5j You make an excellent point! There's nothing like discovering fresh and new items. The problem is, many women only look for new novelty items and then left with a closet of nothing to wear. If you build a good basic wardrobe and then add in a few "chocolate chip cookies" once in a while to spice things you - you'll have a perfect wardrobe! 🍪

How wonderful to have your daughter’s support during a wardrobe clear-out! It’s totally normal to have mixed feelings about parting with items, especially when thinking about the cost. But remember, each piece served its purpose, even if to teach you more about what truly suits you. Here’s to making space for pieces that make you feel amazing! 💖

I have gained thirty pounds from the medication I have to take. I finally go see a doctor about this in a few months. And I’m telling her I’m not going to take it. And I will give her a different option. I know I always tell doctors what I think. I’ve been doing it for years. I know my body. And I think she should just give me a chance. I’m going to go back and find the video with the word list. I have not coming up with three words to describe my style. I do retail therapy online. But I am getting better at not buying. My closet is cram packed with shirts. My jeans are on top. And my shorts drawers are full too. My life is really casual. But I don’t buy anything that doesn’t fit my lifestyle. I live in the country now. And I love it. But I’m still hoping I might dress up one day and go somewhere. I’m sure I need to clean out my closet again. I did just buy a new shirt, wore it to my daughter’s house, and her dog pulled a lot of threads with his nails. It was the first time I wore the top. And I liked it. So I told my husband when we go to the outlet mall, where they have an Old Navy, which is where the shirt is from. I’m looking for another one.

Pamela, It sounds like you’ve got a lot on your mind with your health and wardrobe! It’s great to hear how proactive you are with your health decisions and how well you know your needs. As for your closet, it’s all about finding what makes you feel good and fits your lifestyle. Don’t be too hard on yourself about the retail therapy; it’s about progress, not perfection. And that story about the shirt-what a day! Here’s to finding a fabulous replacement on your next trip to Old Navy. 🌟

@Allesea1594 ай бұрын
Loved this, except for the 'you aren't clear on personal style'. If I have to define my style, I'm boxing me in and it's suffocating and boring. We're all very complex beings and we can't be just one person every day. We're not brands, we're people. And we're people with multiple situations to dress for. I'm not going to wear my officewear to a coffee date. I'm different people in those different situations and with that comes a different style, because I want to feel a different feeling. At work its professional or confident, on a night out its fun and playful. And with those feelings come different styles. And it's very possible to mix those styles. For example its absolutely possible to combine a structural business woman cigarette pant with a bohemian or fun printed style top. So my advice is to try to make outfits and experiment with them. If there is a garment that doesn't go with anything at all, ditch it. But don't ditch something just because it's not allowed there because you decided to be one aesthetic only.

I completely agree. However, move those clothes that don't fit you today to the sides or back of your closet so that you don't see them. When your weight changes, change up your wardrobe to the current size. It's not fun to sift through the closet every morning when the clothes you're looking at don't fit. 🥰
