I'm from the midwest, and for the most part that's true. Where I live now in PA, there's one in the Allentown area. There used to be a few restaurants in the Philadelphia area in the early '90's, but those stores closed down. Jersey does have a few too. The restaurants are mainly East of the Mississippi, north of the Mason-Dixon line. Once you get into the Carolinas, they have their own version of White Castle called Krystals.

I feel blessed to have White Castle in my neck of the woods but I recently read that Big Boy had shut down half of their restaurants. They are all over up here. Plus, I love the Cincinnati style chili with locations that, I believe, only go 100 miles in every direction.

You should add "Maid Rite" to this list. An Iowa favorite chain with "loose meat" sandwiches. I always remember enjoying these steamed bun sandwiches as a kid in Iowa. Great tasting fast food.

Maid Rite! Yeah. I am from Chicago and lived in Iowa for a while. Man, I can't believe I almost forgot about them. Those were good sandwiches or whatever they were. Nice ambiance too. Striped down, pleasant people and really good food. Thanks for the share.

Maid Rite sandwiches are the best burger I've ever had anywhere in this country. They only come with mustard I believe and do not even think about asking for ketchup or you might be asked to leave. Marion Iowa is the location we went to

Never had a White Castle but Krystal's is in my area (Memphis, TN) & they are divine! Back Yard Burgers is a regional fast food burger joint that is really good. Their burgers actually do taste like they were cooked on a home grill. Another fast food restaurant we have here is Mrs. Winner's which focuses on Chicken Biscuits and fried chicken. There aren't as many around as there were, but their fried steak biscuits, chicken biscuits, and cinnamon rolls are awesome! Any of y'all coming through Memphis, try one of them.

We had a white Castle in Chattanooga on Germantown road for a while. I'm pretty sure it went out of business 15 or 20 years ago. Krystal is basically identical to White Castle. And it's local, this is like a Coke / Pepsi rivalry. They were doomed here. My family is from Chicago so when I was little White Castle and Pepsi, when I moved here as a teen, Krystal and Coke. Whatever.

@@LavitosExodius oh god, 25ish years ago everything changed, I managed a Burger King, when PepsiCo and Yum brands that own Taco Bell, Kentucky Fried Chicken, Pizza Hut made exclusive contracts with Pepsi But franchise owners rebelled in Coke states where serving Pepsi was like saying the South didnt win the civil war it was open season. To this day in lots of places around where I live now, if a restaurant serves Pepsi instead of Coke people will order sweet tea or drink water instead. Im a Pepsi man myself but, Oh the Cola wars :)

I use to eat at Jack-In-A-Box but they changed their burgers. Yes, the meat, sirloin is the same. But the Hamburger Bun changed from the standard white bun to a brioche type bun. That is fine for Lacto-Friendly tummies, just not mine. I now eat at What-A-Burger.

Oh how I wish El Polo Loco was a national chain!!!!!!!! It is mostly on the west coast; CA, AZ, NV, and those states. None in NC, where I live now. It was the BEST tex-mex style chicken I ever ate, served with rice, real Mexican cooked beans, and tortillas. So good! It's what I Really miss about California 😔

In Rochester, MN, I have been to all of them from the "high class" eateries to Cheap Charlies, Culvers has the best. Burgerville did make the list! Sad to say though their once great and unique chicken strips are no more once they had to switch where they sourced their chicken. Took me years to realize since I moved out of state and since it oddly didn't get news coverage like most chains would have.

Never had a White Castle but Krystal's is in my area (Memphis, TN) & they are divine! Another fast food restaurant we have here is Mrs. Winner's which focuses on Chicken Biscuits and fried chicken. There aren't as many around as there were, but their fried steak biscuits, chicken biscuits, and cinnamon rolls are awesome!
