This list is mostly of extending payments over a longer time, with a "okay" benefit to the player (player is owed $8M up front or 3 years of payments for $3M or even 25 years of $500K). Davis deal is the same...he was owed roughly $59M ($42M for the 2016 deal and 17M for 2022) and he's getting $59M total. Soriano was owed $14M....and he's getting $18M. The point is for the most part other then Bonilla....what the others are getting is fair. As he's getting roughly 5X what was owed.

These deferments are joint team/player agreements, of course, so no issues. Is there an inflation adjustment built into the calculation of the future payment amounts? Otherwise, players would be taking a big hit and owners would be making out big time. Bonilla's last year playing was 2001. If Bonilla, or an owner, had taken $1,193,248 and put it into an S&P 500 index fund on 10/1/2001, it would be worth $3,403,395 today. And that's without reinvesting income.
@dtown16212 ай бұрын
Bernie Madoff sold the Mets owners on the fact that he could get them 10 X on their investments so instead of paying $5 million to Bonilla they decided to pay him $25 million over 25 years because they could take that $1 million and turn it into $10 million every single year

You make Bonilla sound like a great player, but I notice you mention only his batting stats. Take a look at his defensive stats or better yet watch video and you'll see his defense was absolutely cringe-worthy. Teams couldn't figure out where on the field to hide him...and he did not want to DH. His base-running and base stealing were lower than average.

To tell you guys the truth deferred money is very team friendly. You sign people with present value but you pay them in future value. 1.2 mil in 2009 was worth more than today 1.2 million can’t get you as much as back then this ofc is an example. Same logic how babe Ruth made only like 900k when that’s actually how worth 20 mil so whenever someone asks would you rather have a dollar now or a dollar a month from now. Take the money today
