I looove to take self portaits, but often struggle to not look awkward in front of the camera. I will often end up looking like a combination of a stuffed rodent and an alien, which is not exactly the look I’m going for :)
When taking self portraits the inner critic in us is probably at its loudest pointing out all the things we're unhappy about with ourselves. But, that's exactly why I believe it's worth while to put in the effort in taking self portraits that can make us see our own beauty and uniqueness.
So, I made a list of the tips I've used in my own photography that will hopefully give you more inspiration when it comes to taking self portraits. It's really not that serious when it all comes down to it, see this as an invitation to have fun with it instead!

Hi! Actually, I take most of my photos by myself, so you can totally do it even if you don't have someone to help you take photos :) I use a tripod and self timer app for my camera or then a selfie stick and phone self timer :)

Liz G Maybe you looked weird because you felt weird? You can do this when you e.g. hug something, (flowers/ teddybear...) someone Also, it will give a cute touch the more you hold these things near your face/body and kinda bend your face to left or right. not too much. Just a little bit. To make your face not look awkward, you should naturally smile and just close your eyes then. You don't need to open your mouth for a smile. I have picture examples but can't show you here

I use a lot of these tips in my photos. Especially covering up the face (I usually do it with my hair or my hands), showing my back, and looking away from the camera (usually a side profile). I’m also really bad at looking graceful and sexy when I take full body shots so I just do power stances or try to make a stiff awkward stance part of the photo. These tips require a lot more creativity but can be so empowering when you finally get a good shot. Love it ♥️

I came across this channel by chance. Watch the beautifully edited video about knitting the wedding dress and moving into new home. I was struck by how comfortable she is infront of the camera. Her voice is pleasant and her face is serious, animated, sad, smiley and looks good with every expression. Her mouth doesn’t move in strange ways when she talks and I swear you could freeze frame the vid anywhere and she would not be looking weird. I studied all this because I’m always amazed by people choosing to film their face and record themselves talking. It a puzzlement to me.
