10 Shake | Promo Montage - (28.05.2023)

10 Shake launched back in September 2020, but today was the first time I had properly checked it out. Better late than never though, right? :P
After recording/watching a lot of the channel today, all I can really say is that the channel is a bit of a mess. It's clearly Nickelodeon in everything but name. The colour scheme's are the same (both use orange, black & white), most of the kids shows are Nickelodeon productions, and the channel even airs "Nick News" updates in-between programs. There's nothing original about it whatsoever. Even the concept of airing adult-orientated programs at night is obviously inspired by "Nick At Nite".
If Ten/Paramount were so intent on heavily basing this channel on Nickelodeon, I don't understand why they didn't just launch Nickelodeon on free-to-air. I get that there would be licensing and contract conditions which would need to be renegotiated with Foxtel first for that to happen (since Nick is exclusively on Foxtel), but for a global organisation like Paramount, I really don't think that would be much of a stumbling block. After all, Nickelodeon and Ten are both owned & operated by the one company. It would be better for the sake of viewers to have a globally recognised, premium brand offering these programs, rather than a cheap, "poor man's" version of it which we currently have.
I also don't agree with the idea of using the "10 Shake" brand for the adult-skewed programs. It creates a perception problem more than anything. Is it a kids channel, or a general entertainment channel? If you were to see what was on the channel during the day and you noticed that it was full of kids shows, what incentive would you have to check again and see what was airing on the channel in the evening? You wouldn't. To people who don't know any better, they would just see 10 Shake as being a kids channel and that's it. Similarly, many parents who work dayshift and come home in the evenings wouldn't be aware that the channel broadcasts kids shows during the day.
By using the same brand for two different programming slates, they're essentially alienating the channel from potential audiences. This is arguably the case based on the overnight ratings shares that this channel receives.
IMO, Ten should take inspiration from the ABC and rebrand the evening programming slate to something else. On LCN 22, ABC Kids broadcasts from 5am to 7.30pm, and the channel then becomes "ABC TV Plus" for the rest of the night. This is what 10 Shake should be like. The channel could be known as "10 Shake" during the day when the kids shows are on-air, while it could then become "10 Shake At Night" (or something like that, you get the idea) from 6pm onwards. Better yet, the channel could just become Nickelodeon and that would settle things entirely. :P

get where your coming from. Most kids these days don’t watch FTA TV and instead opt for iPads and KZbin. Plus, 10Shake isn’t available nationwide.
