Indeed! My sister (from another mother!) owns a sable (who I consider my fur-nephew!) does this to me too! Whenever I’m over at her house, he goes in his toy box and PURPOSEFULLY takes out his rubber chicken (which he JUST LOVES, ESPECIALLY since I bought it for him!) and brings it to me! I then toss it and tell him to “GET THE CHICKEN, GET THE CHICKEN! GET IT, GET IT!” The point of the game, is for him to associate the word “chicken,” to that toy as part of his training. He’s still learning, but usually brings it back one time out of three!

I had to mention, my pup, pictured in the lil’ circle pic left of reply, is from the breed known as “Velcro Dogs” so, though certainly smaller, I completely get the “never a moment alone.” Havis like to join their person in the bathroom: if seated, they oft stand between one’s legs, snout facing down to the bowl, cheering the movements, or, when showering, will silently flop on the bath mat precisely where a wet, squinty eyed bather would first step upon exit. I love my little shadow and sidekick, but do occasionally ask dog-owner neighbors to take him, please, for a few hours, so I can either get projects done, or take a solo power nap without a furry halo festooning my head. The dogs are the best people, haha. Hope your weekend is great wherever you may spend it. 🙏🏽✌🏽❤️ from Minnesota

I have my 2nd Czech/DDR sable GSD (got her used...errr... rescue) both exhibit all the same behaviors. While each have/had distinct personalities/drives, even the most minute movements are 'readable'. I'm recovering from hand surgery currently, and my girl is totally aware way more affectionate and nurturing than her norm. For anyone contemplating getting one of these, please do your research and know that you don't get the dog you want, you get the dog you earn.

The sleep thing is a very good sign. In dog behaviour, if a dog shows you it's tummy and chest, it's a sign of submission and trust. If they sleep like that it means they trust you and feel you'll do a good protect of any danger that comes their way while they're sleeping.

My third GSD is a male, now age 12. He has always slept just like your dogs; on his back with his rear legs spread out. He goes into a deep sleep like that on the deck in the sun. They can be demanding; like living with bossy little people. You need to be a good "pack leader" with GSDs, or they'll try to run the show.

I have a GSD. He is 12 and I see him slowly declining. Breaks my heart. Once you have a privilege or being own by GSD, you’re a GSD person for life. Amazing dogs. Could be a handful first two years of their lives, but nevertheless, best dogs in my opinion.
