Yep I remember that the first time I took a walk with the camp leader to the hills and saw the hoard. I think it was a good idea not to have them as the selling point as they were a surprise to anyone thinking the game was pretty easy and then seeing that lol. Obviously the real reason Days Gone got bad reviews is because it didn't tick any boxes. Plus it was being released when the Zombie genre was saturated.

@@Thedownliner2015I think your last point is the kicker. The market was just saturated. Lots of people wouldn't have even picked it up at release because it was the 7000th zombie related thing in about ten years.

I picked up Days Gone randomly one day, I was like "why not". The biggest surprise I ever had. It has a deep, sweeping story that had me committed the whole time. It nailed that "getting by in the apocalypse" vibe that's so hard to pin down. Everyone is trying to revive the past either to fight the present threats or find meaning. The dialogue works too, really well. The man who wrote it actually wrote the Syphon Filter series too so no wonder. There's this pervasive sense of forlorn hope in everything and it's such a sweet tone. The game design is also relevant and very approachable, taking down your first horde - can't beat that feeling.
@ClayMann
@ClayMann 27 күн бұрын
very well said. Not being a console owner I missed it when it came out and only picked it up recently because it was so cheap it had to be worth a shot. All I knew was people had issues with it so I expected to bounce off. I did not, I loved it. That getting by in the apocalypse line really hits the nail on the head. That's what this game has so much of. I'd have to put it in a top 10 best games I've ever played list.

It "could be" my fav zombie game if they didn't implement the stupid motorcycle fuel limit and "camp currencies" with weapons soft locked behind them. afaik it's the only "horde shooting game" that really makes sense storywise (stories in games like dead rising just don't feel real, people don't react to things like how they would do in real life).

Days Gone surprised me in the best way possible. I had never heard from that game, but I regularly scour steam for zombie games hoping to find one - preferably an RPG game. I suddenly found this through that search and was pleasantly surprised. This is exactly the kind of game I've always wanted. An openworld zombie game with some survival elements. Loved it. It could have been even better with more random openworld events and more survival elements, but I still had an absolute blast with it.

I LOVED Days Gone but the story was finished and I see no reason at all for a sequel. What would the story be in a sequel? A continuation of the original characters? Or a brand new MC with some kind of new, epic goal? How do you think it would match up to the original? I'm truly interested because honestly, sell me on a story that's at least as compelling and deep as the original and I'd buy it in a heartbeat. Oh, and the bulk of it can't take place in the existing world/region, because well, where's the massive zombie threat anymore. It would have to take place in a different part of the country, which I'm totally down with, but it would have to be as detailed and geographically interesting and diverse as the existing one.

@@scorpiongod101 That sounds great, but it doesn't sound like a main story goal. I think the main goal would have to be about NERO. I won't go into details about it here, for fear of spoiling anything about NERO for those who haven't played it yet. Also, the greatest thing about Days Gone was the feels. A sequel would definitely need the feels, and it couldn't involve the you-know-who's because that would just be lame because they've already been through it once. IMHO it would either need a brand new MC with an equally compelling story(which would possibly still be a re-hash and thus still lame), OR the existing MC who now helps others suffering with the same issue that he himself had. I could easily get into ~that~, as long as we really feel for those he's helping, with their issues being deeply dove into and expressed to us.

The activsts aren't and don't play games. I want fun games with great characters with great gameplay. Sony also keeps trying to make games into movies. I'm currently doing a 2nd playthrough of Days Gone. As much as I love the story/gameplay/the bike mechanics and the world. I'm seeing now that it is really underbaked. There's so much in this world that is left to be desired. I went into Copeland's camp a few nights ago and instead of going to see Manny or speak to Copeland for a quest I started wondering around the camp. I was in awe of how detailed the camp was. It genuinely looked like a survivor's camp that was built around a big tree.... and then I got to the guard posts. There were multiple of them. On different levels of elevation and they seemed to be in the perfect spots for taking out enemies. Yet, you don't use them. They're just there. Imagine a mission where a horde was coming down onto a camp and you along with NPCs were tasked with culling them, while you fire from the guard posts. And that's basically the entire world of Days gone. It is so detailed, but under utilised, and as a result it loses out on moments you could've had in game, especially because the world can be dynamic. Every building allows you to enter it. Imagine finding a small family hiding out in one of the buildings while a bunch of raiders or freakers were outside it. While trying to complete that a horde could've been in the area and came hunting for you. It would've made exploration so much more captivating more so than just finding resources. It could have even evolved into you needed to escort this family home again. It would've given more depth to making the roads safer by clearing out freaker nests, other than just opening it up for fast travel. I fault nothing else of the game. I love the shooting mechanics even though a bunch of people complained about it. I love the bike and how conservate you need to be (even though people complained that the bike got damaged and ran out of petrol too fast), I love how it's like a ubisoft map but not exactly. I love how small and detailed the map is. I started traversing it without using a GPS when I needed to go somewhere. AND THE HORDES, my god. They're amazing. My wish was that we got a part 2 that kept this same map, they didn't even need to update the graphics. That could've been carried over to the PS5 flawlessly. I just wanted them to flesh out the world a bit more. Make it fuller than it ended up being in the game we got. Thanks for coming to my TED talk :)

As someone who just got to it last year after it went on gamepass, i can confirm Quantum Break still plays great now and is definitely worth your time if you haven’t played. If you like Alan Wake or Control and haven’t played, then you absolutely should- it will scratch that same itch and it’s just wonderful tbh. The live show tie in components are good if you just accept them as homage to 90s style Sci-Fi, the same way alan wake 1 is an homage to suspense thrillers. The nice thing too is that if you don’t dig them, they are absolutely skippable. They only cover side characters and fill in the details of everything happening around the main story. Opt in or out, it’s really your call.

The wildest thing is I saw a dev in the comments of a video who replied to a video talking about the game. And he was saying it was a small team and if not for budget issues that had so many more ideas and could make 2 other games off the ideas they had. I believe he was someone who worked on environmental development by memory but they sound like a really passionate team. Who are begging to make another game. And still passionate enough to be in the comments thanking people for noticing their hard work

Thoroughly enjoyed Days Gone right from release. It felt like RDR, Mad Max and The Last of Us all rolled into one. Deacon took a while to get used to, but as you become accustomed to him and he also mellows through the story, I met him halfway and we got along since. And NO GAME gives you the rush that hiding in a house when you accidentally encounter a horde moving through an abandoned town as they eerily navigate around it. And REALLY WEIRD niche like, but I love the sound as the bike drives over a wooden plank bridge.

Went from fired by them. To competing with them to enough success they buy your company. And then they rehired 6 of the people they originally fired after the Respawn sale. So yeah Respawn is dead. It's actually possible to play most of the Last Guardian in 60 fps on PS5, but you need the disc version. There's a few sticking points where you need to update to the 30 fps version to avoid crashes so it's not the smoothest experience but I found it much more playable at 60 fps.

Beyond two souls deserves an honourable mention on this list, not for gameplay but for story games as a whole, going forward from that to games like until dawn you can really see how developers leaned into narrative driven games that sure were lacking in gameplay elements but leave you satisfied with good story and multiple endings to replay and see how your choices effect the story

I think The Callisto Protocol should be on this. I'm currently playing it for the first time (with Denevo removed so it runs well) and the game is fantastic. I'm shocked people said it felt repetitive, the dodging and fighting mechanics feel incredibly unique and intuitive, the graphics are stunning, the game at some points looks completely real and the sound design is some of the best I've heard with Hellblade being the only thing I could think of being better. I can't see how anyone who loves dead space wouldn't also love The Callisto Protocol.
