The Crickets didn’t emerge after Buddy Holly’ death,they already existed and most of the songs we associate with Buddy were released under the name The Crickets

@bennybenicasa 12 күн бұрын
The song "I Fought the Law" emerged after Buddy Holly's death. The Crickets recorded and toured for a few years after he died, which is when the song was written by Curtis and then recorded with another vocalist. This is what was probably (or should have been) meant by the narrated dialogue. Unfortunately, the dialogue totally ignored the biggest hit recording of the song by the Bobby Fuller Four.

@ Buddy was obviously the main man,but records were released under the name The Crickets,namely the single That’ll Be The Day and the first lp was The Chirpin’Crickets.Then as a marketing ploy to have more than one single out at a time records were released under Buddy’s name alone,eg Peggy Sue.I could be wrong but I don’t think any records were released as Buddy Holly and the Crickets while Buddy was alive.

The :"original" was Barbara McKee, who worked for a record company. Record exec Fred Foster overhead a conversation at the company offices. "Who was at the meeting"? "Just me and Bobbie McKee". Foster loved the sound of that answer and suggested Kris write a song around it. Kris did not know Barbara and misheard the name as McGee. Later, while waiting for a train to pass, he remembered the phrase and started to work up a song. I believe Kris said that Gordon Lightfoot did the best rendition of the song.
@ptournas
@ptournas 23 күн бұрын
@@donnagutierrez5740 Kristofferson, who didn't yet know she had recorded it, heard it shortly after she died. He loved her rendition, but said he couldn't sing the song without breaking up for a long time after that. A lot of comments have mentioned that the name Bobby McGee came from a studio secretary who was actually called Bobbie McKee, who Fred Foster suggested Kris write a song using her name, but Kris misheard the name. An interesting side note is that she was the secretary to Boudleaux Bryant, the husband in the the husband and wife songwriting team who wrote many hit songs for many artists, including almost all of the Everly Brothers early hits!

"Till There Was You" is a show tune written by Meredith Willson, popularised by his 1957 stage production The Music Man and its 1962 movie musical adaptation, and further popularised by the Beatles cover. The song became the first Top 40 hit for Anita Bryant in 1959, prior to being recorded by the Beatles in 1963.

Written by Billy Roberts, the Leaves were the first act to put it down on vinyl, just before fellow LA bands Love and the Byrds. Hey Joe then became a staple of many US Garage Punk bands. My personal favourite versions are by the Shadows of Knight and by the Golden Cups, a Japanese Group Scenes band.

"Walk Right In," by the Rooftop Singers, which ruled the charts for weeks in 1963, was written by Gus Cannon in 1929 and recorded by Cannon's Jug Stompers at RCA Victor.
