The mention of gallons per kilogram of chocolate broke me. Writers, I understand that majority of the audience is American, so providing figures in English Imperial units is fine, but please also provide Metric equivalents for absolutely everyone else. And for the love of all that is holy, please never mash them together. 😱

It's not water but I work for Walgreens and I dump gallons and gallons of milk every 2 weeks. I just poured over 50 gallons down the drain the other day. I asked if we can try to sell it at a discount and was told that Walgreens would rather pour it all down the drain because people would wait for the sale and never buy at full price. They don't care about all the money they lose but only care that customers aren't getting it for less.
@Ozzymandius19 ай бұрын
That's crazy. Especially when Walgreens barely has anything else in their fridges.
@ericvacca5519 ай бұрын
Ooh the problem is even far far bigger than that. 40%, yes almost half of all food produced gets tossed. Capitalism is incredibly, insanely wasteful.

I'm surprised you're suprised. Milk doesn't last forever and Walgreens would definitely be sued if people started getting sick. It's a slippery slope to push the limits of expiration on dairy products.

In California it is illegal to sell milk at a discount. I learned this about 20 years ago when a local market was fined for selling milk at too low of a price.

2 very funny situations ended up occurring over saving water. (1) almond companies started to use bitter almonds over sweet almonds. Bitter almonds use 10% as much water to be produced as regular almonds. The problem is that bitter almonds are used predominantly for cleaning supplies. The regulations for bitter almonds is the same for sweet. One of the nastiest natural chemicals made from bitter almonds is cyanide. Ever since almond companies started to use bitter almonds, cyanide poisonings and death by cyanide has increased by 3 to 15 times. Also ironically more water is than used to produce sugar and artificial sweeteners. In the attempt to save water and money they are now wasting more money and water and also hurting more people. Also people are now allergic to bitter almonds but most companies don’t say if they use sweat or bitter in their products. (2) There are golf fields made out of hemp that use 1/100th of 1% of regular golf fields use. The problem is that those fields don’t get tax write offs for land and the use of water.

Maritime waste is very strictly treated before it gets released, arguably almost good enough to drink or close. Bilge (oily) water is strict as well, 15 parts per million is the max. Accidents can happen and there are rogue operators but fines are huge.

Then when she is asleep, I put them and the dishes and silverware touching them in the dishwasher or wash them myself w/this stuff called soap and sponges and/or brushes, oh the humanity of the hot water usage to keep things sanitary. It is as if sanitation went out the window in favor of acceptable life loss.

On the farming thing, keep in mind that the majority of farm ground, especially east of the Missouri River, doesn't need irritation since we get enough water from rain.
@Mike-hu3pp9 ай бұрын
Farming in a desert-like area doesn't seem like the best idea vs somewhere where it rains enough to grow the crops. The costs of the watering equipment must be massive on top of the consumption levels of water. Where I live in Canada we have drainage systems in fields (tile drainage) because rain and snow melt makes fields too wet.

Cruise ships do not dump grey water. They actually have a water recycling system that rivals those of cities that they use for the grey water because if they did not recycle it, they would quickly run out of potable water. Only the black water gets dumped.

Still waiting on how much area the farms occupy as opposed to what they use. When is the info coming ? Why wasnt it used when referencing the water usage ? Without it, it gives no valuable nor useful info, other than to enrage the hippie types. Maybe it’ll be listed in one of the other numbers not related to it. I’ve heard of fluff pieces, what is it called when something is created to anger the masses by pretending to inform them ? I’m seeing a partially done piece here, I need both sides and all the information in order to form my opinion, not just the stuff to incite the masses, I am not the masses, I am merely a spark.

I was thinking he might be Canadian. And then siding w/the French ?!?!?! I am outraged w/anyone siding w/the French, who still have not apologized for the genocidal actions of their king Charlemagne. He tried to kill everything not Christian, everything. And because he thought God was talking to him. The church has gone on record saying it was not God talking to him and apologized for their actions during that time. The French however seem to be down w/genocide and want everyone else to apologize to them for not being French. Charlemagne is directly responsible for the Viking Invasion starting (you see the Vikings were against being completely killed for their religious beliefs and took action when their villages and towns were entirely razed - everyone slain including women and children). I’ve gotten a scant few French to apologize for the genocide, most run away when I bring up these facts, those rare people that do are far more intelligent than the rest of the cowards in that scummy country of France. Bring back Karl, he’s a decent fellow.
