I saw Moonraker in the theater with my father as a child when it was newly released. I distinctly remember this scene. When she smiled at him, she had braces. To clarify, I found several articles noting her braces, and the following: "The actress who played Dolly, Blanche Ravalec, has stated that she didn't wear braces during filming which is correct. The braces were edited in during post-production and if you saw Moonraker at the cinema then yes, Dolly was wearing braces to make the comedy scene with Jaws." So, those of us remembering braces are correct, although there are versions out there with no braces as well. Apparently the issue was worrying that she looked too young with the braces, so the addition for humor was removed. But it DID happen.
@richardryley36604 ай бұрын
Very interesting but I think my analysis was correct too. Perhaps when the editors noticed the test audiences were thinking Dolly was wearing braces, they decided to add them in in post production. As I said, it VERY much looks like Dolly has braces in that clip, even though the whole point of the video is that she isn't.

The scene would not be worthy of laughter without the braces. People would have memories of people saying "Awwweee!!" or a similar reaction, clapping possibly? whistling? or no reaction at all. The braces made the joke, the joke incited the laughter that we specifically remember. The plane engine placement thing is not weird at all. Boeing 737s used to have straight turbo jets and they occupied the full width of the wing and were mounted virtually against the wing. Later 737s have high bypass ratio turbofans and were moved forward to fit them in due to their bigger diameter. The first turbofans on 737s were flattened at the bottom to aid ground clearance. Later, the engines were moved forward. This was for a variety of reasons not least being it was more cost effective than increasing the undercarriage legs length.

The memory often “tidies up” events so that they fit in better to the recalled narrative. Thus, we frequently hear the famous line from *Casablanca* quoted as “Play it again, Sam”, whereas the actual quote was “Play it, Sam”, which is less meaningful without the continuation in the film “. . . Seeing it very quickly can leave the impression that braces exist. People probably also assume braces would make sense in comparison to Jaws's teeth. People mention it to each other, and the memory changes further. Group interaction on a memory coalesces individual memory into group memory. The thing is, this has ALL been studied extensively for decades, and science knows quite a lot about how memories form, are changed over time, and how flawed the process is. The other thing you have to think about is the self-righteousness involved. There is incontrovertible, unimpeachable evidence that you are wrong about the braces. Instead of saying you clearly remembered it wrong, and be fascinated by how messed up memory is, you double down, and insist the universe has changed around you. Do you not see how narcissistic that is?

I remember the original "Mandela Effect" as being the phenomenon of people (mis)remembering Nelson Mandela dying in a South African prison. I also remember Nelson Mandela being released from a South African prison and later being elected president of that same country. Then soon the term "Mandela Effect" was used to describe when many people misremember a particular event the same way. Like, to give an example, people (mis)remembering an iconic line from Darth Vader in The Empire Strikes Back as "Luke, I am your father" instead of the correct "No, *I* am your father." Of course I also remember thinking (watching The Empire Strikes Back in the theater in 1980) that Darth Vader was obviously lying because in Star Wars, Obi Wan had told Luke that Darth Vader had "betrayed and murdered" his (Luke's) father. And surely Obi Wan, the good guy, wouldn't blatantly lie. 🙂

I don't think you grasp the concept of the "Mandela Effect". You aren't going to find any physical evidence, because these memories aren't from this universe. There isn't going to be an evidence. The "subtle" aspects of the human mind, you could call them the "soul", transcend the material universe. Time buckles and changes, but residual memories can remain, since they are energy in nature and not always beholden to physical matter. I saw Dolly smile to Jaw on a 40 foot wide screen, her braces were hard to miss. It was one of the most memorable parts of the whole movie, and so perfectly tied the two strange characters together. It was poetic. I can't help if this universe's writers weren't as good as my universe.

Exact same scene, exact same reaction. My son absolutely loved it, l think partly because he too had braces a few years earlier. Fast forward yet again to only a few days ago, June of 2024, when l took out that very same DVD copy of Moonraker and watched it once more, after recently being made aware of this controversy and to confirm what l absolutely KNEW l had seen multiple times. And imagine my utter dismay and astonished disbelief as l watched, rewinding it over and over, and seeing just as clearly that the braces were now inexplicably and very disturbingly GONE. I have absolutely no explanation, and it still shakes me to my core. No, l am NOT making this up. And please do not insult my intelligence by suggesting that my memory is somehow 'faulty'. Both his Bible printed in 1879, and mine printed in (or about) 2000 agreed respectfully. The following Monday, I re-read both accounts and the called my friend to verify what his Bible said. .....Now both read "bottles ". No, I am not joking, mis remembering or lying. My friend of 40 + years couldn't hardly believe his own eyes either. No, the center console was filled with buttons which Devon used to activate KITT and the passive restraint system on the first episode. In front of that was the gear shift. Where the ashtray/cup holders went was an object analyzer. (Michael put a gold coin in it in the episode Kadez. He also put a paint chip scraped off the side of a dumpster to determine the make and model of exotic sports car used in street racing. That was the episode where he found out his old girlfriend Stacey was hit.) David was cued to look down towards the gear shifter area when speaking to KITT; nobody noticed if he was looking at the dashboard to speak with KITT. The actor who voiced KITT had his lines and KITT's sound effects coming out of a speaker underneath the dashboard for the best audio recording when Michael said his lines. There was a recording microphone installed in the cross-member of the t-top to record Michael, any passengers, ambient sounds while doing scenes. The recording unit was mounted in the trunk, in the left hand side fender compartment. It kept the car aesthetic, easy to access to switch tapes or maintain the unit. The tiny lipstick sized cameras was mounted into the ceiling, just behind the plexiglass divider. The audio was okay enough to clearly hear the passengers' voices and their stories. But depending on the ambient sounds would be more dominant. Like when the cab would drive past a jackhammer or something. NYC Cash Cab audio quality was much better. The driver wore a lapel mike; the mikes for the passengers was mounted in the rear pillars on both sides of the cab, closest to the rear seats. The van had extra sound absorbing materials between the interior and exterior to isolate ambient street sounds. With Knight Rider, the sounds were spliced and mixed on a soundboard. The turbine sounds when idling more pronounced, unless music was playing. Even the turbine during Super Pursuit Mode whether at speed or idle never sounded louder than Michael's dialog in Knight of the Juggernaut Part 2. Even Michael's dialog on the intercom of the private plane sounded pre-recorded but sounds like it came over an intercom. The beeping of KITT's buttons are more pronounced than exterior ambient sounds. Nobody remembers anything the way it actually happens. When 2 people get together to discuss something that happened they feed each other thoughts that work themselves into each other’s memory. “Clearly” remembering something does not make that memory a reality. Often, we make ourselves either the “hero” or the “victim” in our memories to make our world make sense to ourselves and to feed our own egos. Also, humans have a strong aversion to admitting they are wrong.

We exceeded the the goal score and the movie we watched was Space Balls. Well, that is my clear memory at least, but there is a problem with that idea. Space Balls was produced in 1987, when I was in 11th grade. I was in 5th grade in 1981/82 school year. If you know how memory works, you'll understand that there is no need for a paranormal explanation. It's just that our memory is not Memorex.

Look, there is an old saying: "Memory plays tricks." As someone who is getting old now, I have experienced a growing number of such instances and I can say this saying is true. If the so-called 'Mandela Effect' is about anything, it is not about the paranormal, it is about how the human brain stores memories. It may well be to do with how we associate one thing with another in our memories and the way errors creep into this system with time. This is in the province of psychology or neurobiology, not the paranormal.

I'm not suggesting there are multiverses. But, too much pyschology is based on people afraid to acknowledge the limitations of their understanding. Example: If I'm wandering in the desert and see a mirage which is a tree with a monkey hanging out of it and a puddle of water off to the right of it, and a guy beside me sees the exact same mirage, then something is up. That's not purely explained by psychology. Now absolutely it is possible that suggestion from pop culture (jokes or spoofs" will get mixed in with legit memories, at times, so that's something to look into, but I find some of this to be a bit odd

I did write a long comment explaining this but the cat decided to walk on my keyboard and ruin it. Seriously though, Mandella Effect can be attributed to the way our brains remember things. Prof. Daniel Kahneman won the Nobel for his work in this field. It's all to do with the way our brains "short cut" a lot of things to do enormously complex tasks in what seems like an instant. Many functions contribute to it but the main one is "associative memory" - we clump similar things together, remembering the differences - not the details. Differences "deltas" is much more efficient and is key to systems like MPEG video and other compression systems. But it's prone to errors. Jaws and his G/F. We see broad smiles at the meeting and remember those silver teeth. In our minds that can easily translate into the young girl having braces. It's not helped by the lighting in that scene. The bright white toothy smile can cause the MPEG compression scheme (and this depends on the settings) to throw away some of the information that we would see - in the theatre. The digitised or even low-quality broadcast signals simply give the impression that Dolly is wearing braces. Re-watching the movie on a TV after the release gives that impression in fact - the only way to see how it really is would be to obtain a very high-quality BluRay master or an original print and even then, some prints (due to the process) lose a little bit of information in the bright areas. But think quickly back to your bible for a moment, how did Moses sort all those animals on the Ark? Tricky job right? But did you spot the mistake? A lot of people stumble here - this isn't the Mandella effect but is key to it. Noah/Moses is less important to the question (in our brains) because it's simply a name than the question our mind is trying to solve, so many people simply miss that entirely. It can take a few seconds (or more) for it to dawn on someone they've been fooled. Or those optical illusions where you see a duck or a lady for example? Same thing, some people see the image flip back and forth as the visual system tries to decide WHICH image is true (both are so it gets confused). I could explain each of these using the same basic technique but I've already lost this lot once - if anyone wants more information, hit me up in the comments and we can talk about it. It wasn't CERN that altered the past, it's an even wilder glimpse into how our brains fool us into thinking what we think we see is the real world. It's not. It's a construct, an illusion. And many of these limitations are exploited by magicians/illusionists to pull off some incredible feats. It's pretty much impossible to convince another person that they're wrong - and show them evidence they'll deny it or be genuinely shocked but it really just mirrors the way our brains ALL store information (and therefore make the same mistakes) which is why some of us remember things in a particular way. The other effect here is simply "priming" - as in the Moses example above. Priming simply means something like "Don't think of an elephant" and then asking "What's the firs thing that comes to your mind?" An elephant of course (if you're honest). That's priming because we pull an image of an elephant from memory into "working" memory so we know what we're NOT supposed to think of. But since that's in working memory, it's the first thing that get's pulled when we're asked the question.
