I like seeing "plant progress" videos, especially for hoyas... Like when you got the plant as a cutting/small plant 2 years, 1 year ago... And show the progress over the months. People tend to think that hoyas don't grow fast but they do!!

I do love just simple plant shopping or walking around nurseries. I also like the idea of plant keeping for new plant parents or those who don’t use humidifiers, grow lights, fertilizer, just stuff to help us grow our plants big and strong!

The root systems on the heuschkeliana are so delicate! I've killed a couple too. Mine are in bright indirect light (a few feet away from a north west facing window) and I water around every 8 days. This finally is working. ❤

Serpens does well for me in moss, Heuschkeliana varigated I have is trailing and does good for me in only watering when the leaves are wrinkled and I keep it directly under my grow light. Theres a few people I know that has struggled with that one. Polyneura is so annoying! But I find needs to be watered more than I thought and I grow in coco husk. NGG is one I just got and cant give too much advice on this one quite yet. Bella is a favorite and i find does good for me in leca and moss mix but as far as blooms they start then fall off.🤷🏻‍♀️ I keep bella in a big prop box and it takes off then she lives on a shelf! Definitely thirstier than people think. Linearis I just grow in straight up water and in a tent and it seems to like it. I've also grown it in pon and seemed to like that too. Hoya Thomsonii I had and I'm sad I sold it for no reason ...but it was a slow grower and did absolutely nothing so maybe that's why I sold it. Spartioides (I probably butchered that spelling) I dont have . Khroniana just thrive in leca for me and moss, Sometimes I do a mix of both. Curtisii I've found is easy but I cant do it in soil only in leca or moss. As far as ones I'll never buy again I'd say are Compacta, lacunosa and wayettii! Never again. Sorry for the novel lol I do agree that Hoya are way thirstier than people think. I drown mine and that seems to be the game changer plus blast em with light in a tent.

Hi Jaclynn-I always look forward to your videos! You are very knowledgeable, honest and funny, perfect combo for me. Some ideas for future videos: 1. Ideas for careers/jobs with plants (besides KZbin-I’m camera shy!) 2. Easy, once-a-month fertilizing for busy people, and what you use! 3. Grafted cacti info and care (do they ever grow?) 4. Tour of your own favorite “common” plants. 5. Your favorite online sources for plants. Have a great night and thank you for being you!

I have Hoya bellas in soil and they all eventually get root rot. I bought a small cutting in coco chunks and I water it when it looks dry and it’s the only one growing long with very thick leaves AND it’s blooming. Very robust so now I’m afraid to repot in soil. Lol

Hi Jaclynn, For the Hoya variegated heuschkeliana I put mine in small glass jar with leca/PON in cabinet under grow light (top shelf) and is growing well, new growth is a pretty pink! For me small Hoya cuttings, especially those I receive in sphag, go right in a parfait of leca/PON and do great. For those without a cabinet use a cloche. Has solved my losing so many little hoyas. It did not work with hoya sigallatis. Enjoy your videos!

I have 3 currently in the struggle. Hoya Bella yes I feel like I’m constantly saying did you lose more leaves?, Hoya sunrise I think it’s just this individual plant but it’s definitely dying, Hoya lacunosa has a new yellow leaf almost daily. My polynuera is good and my Linearis hates winter but it’s doing amazing now.

I have at least six out of your 10 hoya that you spoke about in this video. IMO those that you were struggling with appear to be ones that require more water. Those that have thin leaves I find to be very thirsty so do not allow them to dry out completely. All my hoya are undergrow lamps so they do need water on a weekly basis and I mean a thorough watering. With the last week or so being on the warm side I have even given them a splash of water in the middle of the week because things were just drying out too rapidly.

I also have a couple of reptiles. I would like to see a series of how you set up the enclosures. What plants are suitable and ongoing updates etc. I have a bearded dragon and a gargoyle gecko. I think snakes are gorgeous and fascinating. I just won't have one because I have pet rats and I just can't, not even thawed frozen. I'm just starting with Hoyas. My first is a crimson queen . Then I found a wayetii variegated at Home Depot. I got home and loved it so much I went back the next week and got three more 😊. I enjoy all your videos. Probably my favorites are the ones on plant care ( I have a lot to learn) and the big box store shopping trips. It's interesting to see what's out there, and then compare to what's here. (PA , northeast of Pitts.) I'm currently on the hunt for a purple passion plant. (Gynura aurantiaca) . I occasionally see them in the videos, but haven't found one here yet. 😢 I keep hoping. 😊 everything's fine . 😜

My varigated heuschkeliana was doing amazing in my prop box... very slowly moved it out of the humidy, and got it happy in my conditions. Seemed fine until I took it out of moss and put it in a soil mix... root rot in like 2 weeks. I was so said. I took 5 months to get the roots long enough to plant. It went back in a prop box to rehab and is doing great again but I fear it will live it's life in there... I'm scared to get it out of moss again. Exact thing happened to my krohniana splash too. Maybe my mix needs to be a lot more chunky.

Oh Jaclynn, you are such a busy person and all that you show us is fine, I really love all of your Hoya and how they are doing and really appreciate all that you share and give us ideas on how to care for them, with those dang mealy bugs some of my Hoya have struggled but are not totally dead yet, I guess that is what happens when we are plant parents, everything is a learning experience. I love your eyelashes they are so long and pretty, I remember when I was younger mine were longer but now they are not so if I want long ones I have to use faulse ones. Oh I know that you will keep trying to care for all of your Hoya, and it is just part of being a plant parent, we all struggle and some do good and some are on the struggle bus. Keep doing as good as you are doing and don't be hard on yourself, if they want to live they will and if they don't then they will die, and that is just the way things work. I have also been struggling with those dang mealy bugs, and it is just what it is. Thanks so much for always having a great video to watch and all of your good advice, I am wishing you and David a blessed rest of your day, sending love and many hugs, bye! 😂🤗😻👏👏🙌👍💜💜💞💖

I have close to 70 different species of Hoya and haven't lost one since I stopped listening to those who keep saying "hoyas like abuse". I water mine every 7-10 days, when they outgrown their pots I transplant them into the next larger pot and I don't use a humidifier for additional humidity (granted I live in the south and my household level is always around 50%). I give them east light and the smailer ones are on a shelf system with only medium/high strength light. Also have never had any pests once in my care. Maybe this is all because I don't abuse my plants, who knows.

For all plants, not only Hoya, despite all what we've done to make them happy or thrive or live and yet still want to die , If we have a balcony or yard with good shade or partial shade or indirect sun and the weather is not snowing or too cold, these plants should go outside. My aloe was out when got better I placed inside and now alive. I've been doing this for my dying or not thriving and they got better. Goodluck to every1. Oh yeah and keep treating those with pests even still outside. I think the plants that are not established or with pests need healing from nature outside esp with the natural air😊

As always I enjoyed your video. Many thanks! After many years of growing houseplants I am convinced that some plants have good genetics and some do not. However, I also believe that technically there are varieties within each plant genus that are truly more difficult to grow or we wouldn’t consistently hear from individuals that they have tried to grow them three times and not one of the three attempts has been successful. Finding the perfect growing conditions for some plants can be challenging. 😵‍💫 Good luck to all of us! 👌🪴🥰

20:00 to 20:13 - TRUTH. I was able to help my variegated heuschkeliana recover but I’m still struggling with my Rosita. Other Hoya that I nearly killed from lack of water but are now doing great - Lisa and Krohniana super silver. Also, Jaclynn… do you struggle with Dischidia? I had a beautiful, healthy 1. watermelon (ovata) that was doing great until I repotted it. It completely died. I bought a new one but I can’t get this one to thrive. 2. Variegated Oiantha - I don’t even know which # I’m on with this one. I love this plant soooo much and want a basket of it soooo bad. 3. String of nickels #2. The 1st one just shriveled up and died & I think the new one that I have is going to suffer the same fate.

Undulata, silver plants like NGG, lacunosa silver, krohniana silver and silver dollar are some of the thirstiest in my experience. Others include: variegated lacunosa, var huesch, GPS 7240, burmanica- Srsly this girl will drop leaves if you let her dry out, any Bella’s especially variegated, pandurata, carrii NS13-064, IM-04, thomsonii (both colors), aff Serpens xiaojie 001 (this is 1000x easier than Serpens I’ve killed Serpens more times than I care to admit), polyneura broget/splash adores water! How is that watering system you set up working? I thought that would be a great help for all your plants? But I know a lot of your hoya are in a different area. I’ve put a few of the one that weren’t doing anything for me in Leca and that seemed to get them going really well. you should dabble in leca. It’s alot easier than you would think and it’s very successful . And my Curtisii is growing crazy too. I’ve always watered mine from the bottom to prevent loss on the top. It’s beautiful. First off, i love your videos!! You're so sweet and funny!! Now, I am no where near the grower that you are, however...the hoyas that you are struggling with, obviously we know those do need water I went thru that too...I had a bout with my wilbur graves from russia and a few other 'silver' ones. I recently learned about doing a sulfur treatment. I am sure that you know all about that. I have close to 600 hoya lol...so I use pon, fluval, chunky mix...really whatever I think the specific plant will like...but recently I made a paste and painted on the sulfur onto the ones that were struggling. David Chaimberlain (sp???) anyhow...if its a possible invisible mite issue or maybe they are sulfur deficient, doing the treatment will not hurt (just is super ugly and messy) I hope this helps! May be give it a try! It was easy to do, I wore latex gloves for sure cuz that shit burned my hands!!! Let me know if you've already tried this or are willing to try and share your results!! TY

I find variegated versions of most plants to be more of a pain to care for 😂 My polyneura,krohniana and NGG are some of my easiest and most vigorous growers! I also think most hoya(except for thinner leaves like the poly)or those that are super finicky, need more light especially to bloom. In my experience most hoya growers suggest higher light if there's issues with growth.

Mine actually get too much light under grow lights. Since reducing it they started to grow!! Light depends on the Hoya and what you're trying to do with it ☺️

It depends on the Hoya variety! Some want water every 4 days and others can go well over 10 without it! Carnosa are ones that can go a while without it, but don't let it get too dry for too long or you can end up damaging the roots over time.

How much humidity do you need to provide for M. Albo and M.Thai? Since my area can have very low humidity (live in semiarid Colorado), I wonder if I can provide enough 🤔 humidity for the above plants to thrive without crisping...I would hate to invest without knowing...do I need a tent for them? I really cannot afford that, either... I have a problem with herschkiana, variegated as well. It just doesn't grow, much. My polyneura has gone 😢 backwards, losing a few 🍃.
@jaclynns.jungle
@jaclynns.jungle Жыл бұрын
They actually don't need more than average room humidity to be honest. They like more, like at least 60%, but they don't necessarily need it. I actually have one of my Thais in my bedroom with no extra humidity, I removed the humidifier, and it grows a bit slower than the one in the greenhouse, but it's totally fine!! Just have to acclimate them is all 😊

Just a bit of advice that I have been doing is to learn where each Hoya originated and the weather conditions that they grow in. Some like it hot and steamy and others wet and cool conditions of mountainous regions. If we can’t replicate their needs then don’t buy that Hoya no matter how pretty or rare it is. Hoya Lisa and Curtisii are from Australia. An Aussie gardener said they like to be bottom watered when they are very dry. She called it butt chugging and I about died laughing!
