Although it began to suck, it's still the best era of wrestling compared to today! My father worked for WWF from 77-90 here in CT, so I was raised in it. The Monday Night Wars (with the ECW creeping up from the underground) was legendary and like any war someone had to lose. . .too bad it was us; the fans! Nice one...I remember loving all pro wrestling back then, and earlier....There were a whole lot of bad ideas missed on here...lol. I actually knew NWA/WCW before I had found WWF. It was sad to see WWE rejects ruin that company...at one time, they had a very different style that was, in my opinion, better for years....dating back to before the Hogan Era there. Actually got to see a lot of future WWE stars coming up in their early years through the NWA....the biggest has to be Undertaker as Mean Mark Callous....if I remember right, he teamed with Dangerous Dan Spivey back then...lol

@weikel2000
@weikel2000 5 жыл бұрын
@@SeasideDetective2 The whole thing was just comedy of errors. They should have just booked it to be a clean victory for Sting, instead of booking Hogan to pin him with a quick count by Nick Patrick. But then they managed to mess it up when Patrick didn't actually quick count, so Bret Hart coming down to restart the match and THEN have Sting win "clean" was just so confusing...because it wasn't a quick count.

Simon should do a new list like this featuring Vince McMahon booking decisions from the last 3 years. Shane winning “Best in the World”, Shane beating Roman Reigns, Brock Lesnar squashing Braun Strowman to win the title back, Sasha Banks losing all her Women’s title defences, WWE completely burying the Women’s Tag Team titles after barely a month, Calling up NXT talents only to bury them or not even use them, Kane squashing Finn Bálor on Raw, Roman Reigns megapush, Goldberg vs Undertaker, everything associated with Saudi Arabia, etc, etc. I think you would have more material for WWE from the last couple years than all of WCW.

Ryan Arko I meant more from a fans rivalry stand point. I know they had to out do each other to get viewers. What I meant was with fans why some considered themselves only WWF or WCW fans. When both had their great and bad points. Personally every Monday back then I would just flip back and forth. I loved both neither was better then the other to me.

Here's some others:--The "Million Dollar Giveaway"- Bischoff spent a million dollars on signing celebrities and also did a millon dollar giveaway, where people were offered one million of Ted Turner's money if they watched WCW. Admittedly, Vince McMahon did the same stupid competiton a while later (which included him getting "Rick Rolled"). --The KISS Demon- WCW paid the rock band KISS millions to design a WCW wrestler, which turned out to be "The Demon" Dale Torborg (which was meant to be modelled on KISS guitarist, Gene Simmons). The Demon was a failure, no one cared about him, and he was off-screen soon after, with a million dollars down the drain. -Having an angle where Kevin Nash lost a retirement match to Hulk Hogan. What was dumb was how Nash was written back on-screen. Russo had taken over at this stage, andNash appeared backstage, and when interviewed, he said that the writers had "dropped the retirement storyline because it was bogus". So Nash said, on-air, that a stipulation in a match was overturned because it was a "storyline" and the new management didn't like it and threw it out. -Vince Russo apparently pitched the idea to make Tank Abbott WCW Champion.

If you wanted something truly horrific and stupid done by WCW for this list, I'd have included having Kanyon thrown off the second tier of the triple cage by Mike Awesome, falling 20 feet to the entrance ramp at the end of the main event of Slamboree 2000. It was done in the Kemper Arena in Kansas City, Missouri, and was just shy of a year to the day that Owen Hart fell to his death from the ceiling of that same arena at WWF Over The Edge 1999, in front of some of the very same wrestling fans.

Bit of a negative list for you, Simon. Have to agree, though, David Arquette _is_ an awesome dude for donating all his pay to the families of deceased or injured wrestlers. He even made a return to wrestling last year and has made an effort to be taken seriously (possibly to make up for WCW debacle), although he says he's done with deathmatches after getting a severe cut on the neck and needing surgery from a match against Nick Gage at LA Confidential. Mad respect to the guy.
