The “Teatro del Silenzio” is a natural amphitheater created in the splendid setting of the Lajatico hills,
created by the will of the Arch. Alberto Bartalini and the Maestro Andrea Bocelli.
A “silent” project, in a space that for almost an entire year remains intact in its perfect harmony, coming alive for a few days with characters of bel canto, music and dance, national and international.
A small landscape jewel of the Volterra hinterland in the heart of Tuscany.
The construction was inaugurated on July 27, 2006.
According to the original idea, the structure was born to be assembled and host only one show a year (hence the name "Teatro del Silenzio").
The construction consists of a circular "stage" of a few meters in radius, at the center of which stands a different scenography every year: the most famous, which has become the symbol of the Theater, is an imposing sculpture depicting a human face made by the Polish sculptor Igor Mitoraj for the scenography of a Manon Lescaut and subsequently donated by the sculptor to the foundation of the theater.
A few blocks of Tuscan travertine were placed as a backdrop to the stage.
The stalls are completely dismantled on days when the theater is not in operation and the stage is transformed into an artificial lake. From here comes the definition of Theater of Silence, more precisely that place in the territory of the Municipality of Lajatico characterized by hills that, with (necessary) earthmoving interventions, was created, or rather simulated, as a natural Theater conceived in this way.
