Ineos couldn't offer the diesel in America as BMW would not guaranty the emissions for 10 years and that was a non-negotiable problem for Ineos. I could probably look over all those issues you brought up, but my biggest challenge with this is Ineos itself, they just don't have the service, parts, and engineering support yet needed for a long term proposition. They have a few problems and haven't been able to effectively solve them yet. They are growing and getting there, but when I buy I want to keep this car for the long term and need Ineos to be a little more robust before plunking that kind of $$ down on this truck.

I wrenched on my Grenadier putting the lift springs on with 35s. After my previous 7 Toyotas, (3 Landcruisers I still have), this thing is way more robust underneath than any of my Yotas. For example, the shock bolt will be a 17mm on Toyota, but 24mm on Grenadier. Cost comparison with what you can see, sure the Grenadier is not quite there, but it is what you can't see that makes this SUV worth every penny. Only a 4wd enthusiast who has broken stuff offroad will identify, understand , and appreciate these subtle differences.

Totally agree. I had a chance to drive a trial series (pre-production) a couple years ago and when I crawled UNDERNEATH I was like “yup, this is happening.” The shiny bits and build quality are fantastic - the real game is what you can’t see. The first makes you want to go on a date - the second wants to make you put a ring on it.

The Grenadier uses 3/4 or 1 ton pickup truck drivetrain components. It makes the Wrangler and Bronco driveline look wimpy. It’s built like a brick sheet house underneath. The Grenadier was built for a 25 year life span.

1) It’s very heavy, small fuel tank, gas guzzler, not much range. 2) should’ve had a traditional Speedo/RPM/heat/fuel cluster panel. 3) BMW gear shifter looks not right for an SUV. 4) Headlight washers would be better at its price. 5) Rear seats don’t fold flat. 6) Tail lights could’ve been double or better looking. 7) Steering wheel design is ugly. What sucks about this vehicle is that it started with a traditional no frills 4x4 rig concept BUT ended up with so many unconventional and funky design elements and some shortcomings like smaller fuel tank etc. Some things that need getting used to and some could be upgraded. Still a very attractive purpose built vehicle for off-road enthusiasts, which might compel other automakers to compete in this forgotten segment.

New owner here. You absolutely need to tint the safari windows - first sunny drive and the tint shop got a call. Ideally from the factory you'd be given pop-in/out covers, or they'd already come tinted with the privacy/tint package. The lack of a grab handle on the driver's side is a nuisance, particularly with the rock rails, which I have as well - still learning the most efficient way of getting in. The one bit of tech that I'd trade the park distance sensors/speed limit nonsense/lane departure warnings, etc., for is an LCD rear mirror and front parking camera. When they went with a split rear door visibility went out the window, and that front bumper juts out quite a bit from the edge of the hood. It's all good though, and you nailed it - it's more of a stripped-down g-wagon then an overpriced Jeep.

In your opinion, are the safari windows worth the cost? What is like driving when fully removed?
@MJ-sg8ov
@MJ-sg8ov 3 ай бұрын
@@picodoc8001 I haven’t driven with them removed. I sort of think given their angle that that’s best suited for slower off road excursions, which I haven’t been yet. Are they worth it? I honestly don’t think you’d miss them unless having a sunroof in a car is a big deal for you. I will point out one thing that most modern cars - given the sleek rake of typical windshields - have sunroofs where the leading edge is either right on or close to the line of the driver’s head, meaning that you typically have to really look up and over to get the open view. In the IG, the open panels are in full view and you can easily look up while keeping your head forward to see sky, and it’s a very cool view. Of course this is the same reason why driving into the sun results in quite a bit of heat transmission on your face! When I configured mine I knew I definitely wanted them, so the cost didn’t really factor. Hope that helps.
@ElderStatesman-pi3lc
@ElderStatesman-pi3lc 3 ай бұрын
@@picodoc8001just keep in mind that they are unusable if you go with a full rack - and the cabin gets hotter - and you’ve got the UV exposure (just finished my Moh’s surgery a couple months ago). And some extra wind noise. Super cool, but there are some tradeoffs. I skipped them just because of the skin cancer thing - but love the look. And if you’re mounting a gun turret on the roof, essential, right? Also ask yourself if you really NEED the raised air intake - if you’re not someplace where you’re eating dust, just extra wind noise, but everyone is doing it for “the look.” Last thing and then I’ll shut up - dealer installed rock sliders. I would go side runner unless you’re rock crawling, OR go with a better after-market option. Blacksheep Innovations makes one with removable steps. Great protection when you need it, but easy in/out for daily. Not a promo - just an owner’s opinion. Just please, please please make sure you get the diff locks and aux power. You will be kicking yourself if you don’t. Everything else, just whatever floats your boat.

@@MJ-sg8ovyeah, if you’re going gun turret, then OBVIOUSLY go with the safari windows, but remember to apply sunscreen with a high UPF rating and preferably one that doesn’t clog your pores. There’s really nothing worse than showing up at the mercenary and arms dealer convention with bad skin.

It is basically a W463 G Wagon, with far better steering , suspension and engine . I sold my 2018 G wagon diesel for one, best thing I’ve done in years , oh and it comes with a 5 year warranty .I’m getting 26mpg (imperial gallon) I struggled to get 21mpg out the 3.0 diesel G wagon , they’ve tuned the engine to perfection. Finally I’ve put black plastic caps over the spot lights , way more appealing to me now from the front elevation . Wait till the fusilier comes out in 2026 that really is a G wagon lookalike . Guess what? That’s built in the magna factory in Austria alongside the G wagon!!

For the price, this vehicle could use a few additional features. A heated steering wheel and push-button start, for instance, would be welcome additions. I was also disappointed that the backup camera doesn’t utilize the full screen. While I appreciate the focus on build quality and off-road capability, it falls short on some basic creature comforts that are standard in much less expensive vehicles.

This is why Land Rover made the new Defender the way it is. People complain that it's "not a Defender" but Land Rover knew what they were doing. The Grenadier is a traditional live axle 4x4 like the old Defender. But all l hear is people whingeing about the steering, the noise levels, the ride, how difficult the manual diff locks are to use, and more. Those people need to buy a new Defender, and leave the Grenadier for people who want a proper working 4x4.

Hopefully the aftermarket jumps in and addresses some of your points like the fog lights. I wonder if one can forgo some of the dealer installed options when ordering then and purchase them as parts later and install them on your own, after you pick up your order. If not, that would be my #11 thing that INEOS needs to correct…
@ElderStatesman-pi3lc
@ElderStatesman-pi3lc 3 ай бұрын
Yes you can totally do that - and there are a number of aftermarket off-road specialists building some really cool stuff. What you should NOT do is skip the aux power and diff locks - basically most other stuff you could grab after-market and get equal or better quality. The hitch thing, as Ben pointed out, is a bit of a pain if you don’t do it with your initial configuration- I think this is some European regulatory nonsense. They gave me some garbage about the receiver serial number matching the VIN, blah blah. I got it sorted. But the aux power and diff locks - just don’t skip those. Everything else, knock yourself out and have fun. I do wish Ineos were more forthcoming with the manufacturers and part numbers for the dealer installed accessories- it’s impossible to get them to share that. Just this week they said they were unable to tell me the make and model for the LED light bar (not that they couldn’t, but that they WOULDN’T). So I end up having to tweak and fiddle with stuff. It might have been easier just to deal with it on my own, instead of buying one through them.

Once you get a look underneath you really appreciate that you are paying for hardware. While comparisons are fun, it’s really not relevant how it compares to Wranglers or Broncos. The entire global capacity wouldn’t even be a mosquito bite to sales of those. It’s targeted at a niche inside a niche… and maybe inside another niche. The target market knows exactly why they are buying it and would barely even consider a Wrangler or a Bronco let alone a Lexus.

10 things you hate about a vehicle a suburbanite should never own They can’t offer bigger tires as an option It affects the gearing and the calibration of the speedometer and the handling etc etc Why do Americans think they can just throw bigger diameter tires and lifts on vehicles with no consequence😅 Let’s hope in a few years the Ineos Grenadier won’t be known as the “Idiots Grenader”

What are you talking about? Change your gear ratio and adjust your speedometer if you care that much. THe bigger tires are for off road, not for suburbanites and it isnt some prohibitively impossible thing to do.

@@BnMProductions11 you can do what you like when you buy the bloody thing but the manufacturer has to meet safety standards Roll over etc they can’t offer bigger tires as an option the vehicle has to be redesigned around that bigger diameter tire

The little warning gauge cluster above the steering wheel looks so cheap and junky. The flip-key ignition and infotainment is junk too. I can't stress how cheap and junky this thing looks and feels.

Smaller tires are better offroad. People get bigger tires because they just go to the mall. I think they want this to be a real outback/wilderness vehicle. It's not the target philosophy of use they're aiming for.

Guess you haven't off-roaded. Go to Moab and look at all the off roaders. And even the Jeeps you can rent. All come with bigger tires than stock. Bigger tires = more ground clearance and easier to drive over obstacles. Tell me why smaller tires are better?

Personally I wouldn’t compare that vehicle to a jeep wrangler or bronco, those have 2 to up to 9 less cubic feet of cargo space. How do caps on fog lights become user friendly? Know it’s your personal opinion but lights look good. If you have ever been off road or overland before, nobody wants to get out to take caps off lights. Tires probably help keep MPG up, because that vehicle gets horrible gas mileage. I think the closest competitor is Defender 110 and G wagon, regardless of price. As far as accessories, if they did most if not all their accessories from factory , believe that would complicate production instead of keeping it streamlined. Many accessories are bolt on and have small parts. A production line uses mostly robots, just more costly programming and quality control to make sure those parts are installed correctly and quickly.

You just cannot compare this vehicle to a G-wagon. The luxury and engine has no comparison. I think this car is ugly and super expensive. Specially being a first ever car, not the Cybertruck doesn’t seem that expensive.

In the old days when all cars had keys and no lights on the ignition I learned to take my pointer finger and put it on the end of the key to find the key slot and then allow the key to pass into the ignition. The Ineos is a bargain compared to a Jeep or Bronco or Land Cruiser or Lexus. Keep in mind this is not the first year for the Ineos, just the first year in the US.

How is it a bargain compared to any of those you mentioned? It’s literally more expensive, as well as worse equipped inside, and slower than all that you mentioned. For $80k+ I expect a hell of a lot more.
@tpresten

@jakes5530 It is made much better than either. For instance a Jeep has a max towing capacity of 3500lbs...Ineos is 7900lbs. All of the components are much higher quality. It's not like I haven't owned Jeeps since 1985...I have probably had 20. I love Jeeps but this is in a different league. A new Rubicon Unlimited is almost $70k. Each front fender on the Ineos can hold 300lbs. A Jeep has plastic front fenders....

Bought, and sold the Grenadier within 3 months. It has nothing to do with the build quality but is a pain to drive. Constant adjustments when driving, horrible turning radius, and the ADAS system beeps constantly.

I honestly can't believe the speed limit warning and lane change warning did not make your list. Yes you can turn these off.......EVERY time you start the car. Tell me that doesn't chap your ass every time you drive. I think the speed limit warning is the most offensive to me. The crazy steering and turning radius should have been on here. The whole instrument gauge cluster on the driver side needs to be rethought or at the very least they need to put in a heads up display. I agree on all your other gripes. All that being said, I love the truck, but will refuse to buy until they sort this stuff out. And I do REALLY want to buy one.
