This is my ultimate comfort film; it just makes me feel happy. And I genuinely love how much background humor there is in this film. There are so many bits that go completely unremarked upon by the characters that always make me laugh.

The 90s was a great era of modern retellings of classics. 10 Things I Hate About You was based on Taming of the Shrew. Lion King was Hamlet. Rent is La Boheme. Even Clueless is a modern retelling but i wont spoil the source for you.

10 Things... and A Knight's Tale really put Heath Ledger on the map. The rest of this cast is outstanding as well, baby-faced Joseph Gordon Levitt is a win. Andrew Keegan(Joey) unfortunately fell down a rabbit hole - recently addressing rumors of starting a "cult" in the 2010's which he refers to as "kind of like a badge of honor". It takes all kinds I guess. Grosse Pointe Blank (1997) is a late 90's gem. John Cusack, Minnie Driver, Dan Aykroyd and Alan Arkin slay in that comedic film.

I'm a Shakespeare fanatic and do enjoy a good film adaptation of his plays (Henry V with Kenneth Branagh is my favorite), but also get into the adaptations of his stories. And since Shakespeare "borrowed" most of his stories it's is fitting that his are "borrowed" - and, like you said, best when they are well done. I don't know if you've seen "Sleepless in Seattle," but there are several scenes that cater to guys who are not into rom-coms.

You missed the bloopers in the credits. The summer before this movie came out, my family and I saw a production of "The Taming of the Shrew" and when I read about "10 Things I Hate About You" being inspired by "The Taming of the Shrew," I figured why not? I fell so in love with Heath Ledger after this, it was such a shame when he died. In this and "A Knight's Tale" and even a bit in "The Dark Knight" he showed he had such a good grasp on comedy as well as drama.

Hi guys. Loved the reaction. Right before the pandemic, Julia Stiles was the protagonist of the TV show Riviera, a generic murder mystery/rich people are the worst/trying and failing to capture that The Night Manager mediterranean cool show that somehow got three seasons. I tried to watch it, got bored on episode 2.

Joseph Gordon Levitt recently starred in a song commentary around the upcoming elections. it's called "they're eating the dogs by shmoyoho", if you'd like to see it. it's pretty great, if your political views swing that way. it's also a part of a collection around recent US election debates and not his first participation there.

When I recommend Gil Junger's "If Only", everyone rolls their eyes. Jennifer Love Hewitt? No way! They're all wrong. The movie is fantastic. Paul Nichols, her co-star, is just brilliant in that film.

@rhiahlMT Yep, actually pretty close to Stadium High School. Between the crabs, tides, seals, and occasional pod of orca, I feel ocean is accurate enough. That said, I will die on the hill that Pike Place Market is not Pikes/Pike's :P

@@VS-re1sr Well, I grew up on the Chesapeake Bay, I wouldn't call it ocean. I also lived in Olympia, WA for 12 years and wouldn't call it ocean either. Different habitats. I think people confuse Pike Place Market and Pike's Peak in Colorado, which I also lived near for a few years.

I'll shelve that on the "maybe" column. It was a "community center" with the very culty name Full Circle, but the only thing they were actually in trouble for was selling kombucha without a license. It doesn't exist anymore and doesn't seem to have been anywhere near Scientology levels of evil.
