I am seriously considering a used one as my next (25th) motorcycle for many reasons. I used to have both an ST1100 and a GW1800 with were the epitome of quality and reliability of all my motorcycles. The CTX's engine and its torque tune are very appealing since I now don't ride much out on the interstates. I like the low center of gravity, the relaxed rider position, the minimal electronics but having Blue Tooth and LED lighting, touring options, and the fairing style. These are highly appealing at my age (75).

Good video.....the 11th thing I like about the bike is the Car tire on the back! Been running them for the last 12 years now and love them. Great in the rain and their stopping ability is magic.

I've been looking at these. I have a ctx700 I've been riding. My wife wants to start riding and it looks like the 1300 fixes the small issues I have with the 700 such as leg position, shaft drive, and comfortable at interstate speeds. Also its one of the best looking bikes Ive seen and fairly rare.

Strange . You look more upright than the one I tried recently . It felt like a sport bike . Must be that seat you put on it . If it was that way from the factory I might have bought it 🤔. Looks like like a mini Goldwing . Hope your still enjoying man 👍

That’s a great way to describe & explain features in a bike. Although I’ve had faster & crazier bikes I really like the CTX1300 because it seems like it will fit the way I ride much better than something like the Concours 14 that I no longer own. Honda makes great bikes. I see all these ppl flocking to adventure bikes & videos showing off road riding. I don’t even know where I could find off road riding anymore. Looking at touring & although a Gold Wing 1800 might be cushier I hear it’s much more expensive to maintain.

Curious why you didn't comment on the windscreen in either the Love or Hate videos on this bike. I see you have the Madstad screen. I have the Honda tall screen on mine and I still get buffeting and wind around the sides of the screen. I'm considering either the Puig or Madstad. I think the mounting bracket on the Madstad is a bit too industrial/erector set looking. Both the Puig and Madstad are wider than the Honda tall and should provide a bit more protection especially on the sides. Any opinion on the Madstad, Kyle? Can it be adjusted to direct wind over the helmet of someone who is 5'11'' ?
@kyleweber4543
@kyleweber4543 4 жыл бұрын
Yeah the madstad worked great for me especially if you install the little adjustable wind deflector on the top of the madstad. The adjust ability of the madstad is really nice, can up it up when it's cold and put it down to get more air around you on hot days. I am 5'11" and I also didn't really care for the tall windshield from Honda, it blocked too much air on really hot days.

@@kyleweber4543 Wow what a quick response - thank you for that. I live in the Denver area, so while temps do get hot, the low humidity makes the heat (somewhat) bearable. I'm more concerned about keeping the wind blast down while riding on the highway. As I understand it, the two open horizontal slots on the Honda tall are supposed to create back pressure behind the screen, funneling air up and over the rider. In theory. In practice, not so much. I don't want the windscreen to be so tall that I have to look through it which is why the Madstad is appealing. The Puig screen comes back toward the rider at a lower angle than the Honda tall (directing wind blast directly into the helmet?) but is wider, which might be nice. Again in theory. Just thinking out loud...thanks for indulging me.

@@planartube2364 I had the Puig and I didn't care for it, was okay on hot days but doesn't offer much protection on cold or rainy days. Madstad is the best in my opinion.
@michaelhurst506
@michaelhurst506 Жыл бұрын
The two slots are to relieve the low pressure right behind the windscreen because otherwise as the air goes around the windscreen and rider/passenger, it creates a low pressure zone there (Bernoulli effect). Then the ambient air at higher pressure pushes in against the back of the driver/passenger and forward. You will seen rain getting on the INSIDE of the windshield in rain because of this but because water is heavy, there also is a direct blast back at the rider (higher end H-D's offer a closable vent). Personally, in 67 years of riding on 24 different motorcycles--almost all of which I equipped with fairings/windshields-I have never found this venting necessary or even desirable except in warm weather. Buffeting is the "felt" sensation from disrupted air. Curved surfaces of fairings and windshields try to move the air away and out/up. At the lower speeds of a motorcycle compared to airplanes, only wider & or taller screens really move air out and away. The molded in curved "lips" or "edges" are worse than straight extensions because the air curls rapidly around the edge because of its steeper angle to the relative wind. The parallel add-on at the top actually is to create higher speed air between the two surfaces to eject air higher and curl less. Sorry, but I worked in wind tunnel.😁

You mention engine heat in your 10 bad things video but here you kinda skirt around the heat issue. So is it bad or tolerable? I have a Burgman 650 and there is NO engine heat due to the body design. I had a ST 1300 years ago that was no fun at all above 80 deg.
@kyleweber4543

During very hot weather it can be miserable, the fuel tank gets very warm where it is placed and vents noticable amounts of fumes when stopped or moving slowly in towns on hot days. I hope nobody smokes cigarettes and rides this bike on a hot day. I think the placement of the exhaust pipes in front of your feet contribute to the heat you feel quite a bit. But on cold mornings and evenings it keeps your legs and thighs warm.

@Kyle Weber: I watched your videos and nodded in agreement with some of your observations and cringed at others. •The tool kit you have has been robbed of it’s components. Look up the parts schematic for the tool kit, you are missing most of them. •The exhaust is EASILY cleaned, spray the cool pipes with WD40 let it soak for a bit, soak a piece 0000 steel wool in cleaner wax or your choice of products, keep the steel wool wet, use a light touch, it will take you 10 minutes to make the pipes look factory new. (Been using this trick for 40+ years) •Handlebar feedback is eliminated by adding a Roxspeed setback with isolation damping. •Best windshield on the market for a CTX1300 is a Madstad. No buffeting, can be raised/ lowered / tilted. It’s like an air scoop on hot days tilted back! •Best modification on my CTX1300 was adding a Power Commander 5, throttle snatch is eliminated. Hope this helps other owners

no this is a big motorcycle with a lot of power. You should start with something with a smaller engine and less weight like it smaller counterpart the CTX 700. It is half the weight of the 1300 and the engine is smaller, but it still has a lot of get up and go. I have both the CTX 1300 and the CTX 700 and I think, in my opinion, that the 700 is a great learning motorcycle. It is east to handle and it corners well. So my suggestion would be to get a CTX 700 or a similar type of bike to learn on.

@kyleweber4543
@kyleweber4543 5 жыл бұрын
I personally don't mind not having 6th gear, I always thought it was just too much shifting with a 6-speed trans. Going 70-75 mph the engine is spinning around 4,000 rpm. Never have to worry about downshifting for big hills or curves.
