You may have been already but The Swan at Lavenham has a great bar with original signatures of WW2 airmen who served in the area plus memorabilia, it's fascinating. It is genuinely lovely what you say about our little island. The bond that is provided by the fact the US still bases her military here is real and enduring. People from the US who would otherwise never come here get to see our culture, and it is great to hear what you love as often we Brits take these things for granted (we love to play things down don't we!) I hope when you do have to return home you will have the UK in your heart and you will visit often! 😊

Thank you for your recommendation on Pub! We truly appreciate this opening to learn and explore this slice of heaven (as I call it). So, to be able to share our thoughts and lives with you all, thanks to KZbin! We will continue our channel whenever we have to return to the US. Will take you along for our beautiful (Yoop) as we call it the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. I agree that Lamb is growing on me and ranks up there compared to other meats. It's not as normalize as it is here, which I don't understand why. 💯 I will always carry this wonderful place in my heart forever! Thank you for your support. Friendliness differs greatly from rural communities compared to city life. I've recently left London for a coastal community, and I was actually taken aback by complete strangers saying good morning to me. In London people barely look at each other, let alone talk to each other. Different planets culturally.

Your love for this country is plain to see and you are not the first. I own a lovely little book called 'A Suffolk Summer' which was written by John T Appleby from Arkansas, who was stationed in Suffolk with the US Army Corps between 1942 and 1945. John wrote of his love for Suffolk and left a bequest in his will to Bury St Edmunds Cathedral. The lovely rose garden at the Cathedral is dedicated to his memory.

Get a hold of the book Humble by Nature by Kate Humble ( she is/was a TV presenter). Her and her husband lived in London but bought a smallholding in Wales and learned how to keep Sheep, Lambs, Chickens etc. She now runs weekend courses that help others who wish to do this. She also has a recipe book that uses all her farm produce. Enjoyed this vid and glad you like our way of life. Cheers.

We (and I'm in Peterborough) used to have snow here but it's become far less frequent throughout my life, going from every winter to rare. @@DaydreamersBarn You must, of course, not forget Europe as a whole. I went to the `States from this old world in search of the new - and was glad to find it ( not least on the grounds that I don`t like being in the air, don`t laugh ! ). My next `dare` is to have a dash into the east - perhaps Istanbul / Constantinople ( The City of Constantine the Great - who I think was crowned Holy Roman Emperor in about 330 AD in York - 40 miles away from where I live ). But damn that - I just have to go into the East. God speed and farewell ! x

The UK is full of genuine and generous people who only wish to take you and your lovely family to their hearts, and want to make your stay amongst us the most memorable (for all the right reasons) it could ever be. Once you're back in the States, you'll be very much missed by us. Ignore the haters, they're very sad people who really need to take stock of themselves and alter it for the better, instead of spewing out the vile bile that they do towards others. On the subject of sheep, I'm not a sheep person (inasmuch as I'm not any kind of a shepherd, NOT that I don't like sheep), but don't forget, they'll need shearing once a year - I don't know how many sheep shearers there are in America. As a parting shot, did you see the recent story about Fiona, the loneliest sheep in the world? She was rescued after she had been stranded at the bottom of a cliff all by herself for at least a couple of years. Nobody knew she was there until someone who was kayaking saw her.

Gosh I didn’t realise. Even in London, I have only paid around 130-150 GBP for a haircut and colour and I thought that was daylight robbery 😂. Obviously, there are high-end boutiques you can go to that style the hair of the rich and famous, and probably pay five times that amount, but that’s a choice. Great stuff as usual, thanks Jess. Probably the best lamb I have ever tasted is the Gower salt marsh lamb from S. Wales. I've only ever had it a few times as a treat because it is very expensive but the flavour is outstanding . I've just grabbed a snippet of the lambs diet from their website. This marsh contains a natural abundance of Samphire, Sorrel, Sea lavender and Thrift, not only a tremendous source of nourishment but delicious on its own. Maybe your land back home has something special that sheep will thrive on?

I would be surprised if you can get some smaller vehicles with better mpg in the US. If you have a barn to store a vehicle in, you could have a summer vehicle and a more robust vehicle for when there is two foot of snow. If you can get an old style pick up that were around 30 plus years ago. They often have more room in the bed for moving stuff on your small holding, do better miles, easier to repair but do not have all the bells and whistles. If there is two feet of snow on your pastures you will have to keep your sheep inside in the winter. You will have to grow silage, hay etc. You should not promise to answer all the comments.

If you like to read I cannot recommend highly enough two books by Bill Bryson that you should not only enjoy but understand better than most. The first Is 'Notes from a small island' which is about his experiences and culture shocks when first arriving to live in Britain after moving from Iowa in the States. The second is 'Notes from a big country' which is the reverse after he moves back to the States after 20+ years. Both are hilarious and full of interesting little anecdotes as well as lots of historical facts. Notes from a big country goes under a different title in America I believe it is called 'I'm a stranger here myself'

I can tell how well you have settled here and I think it’s because you “get us” as a nation of oddballs with our weird and unique “way of life” that only those of us who are born here or have lived here forever understand! 😁 Our fascination with discussing the weather; our propensity for offering someone a cup of tea be it a happy event a sad event, a major disaster … you name it, a cuppa will sort you out; that we greet people with “hello, you all right?” And the answer back is “yes, you all right?” 😄 no further questions asked - that’s it, because you don’t really want to know their health life! and that we have this way of insulting and taking the Mickey out of our best friends and the ones we love the most and if we DON’T like you, you will get just a polite conversation and a fixed smile. We like to queue for things and the queue “law” is strictly followed, anyone who dares to jump the queue or pushes to the front - well………😳😱 they will get the hard stare and the tut tut noise from those waiting in the line! 😁 Once a long stay visitor is able to just accept our daft ways and most likely also adopt them too, they then become “one of us” and will welcomed everywhere. We have over a 1,000 years of doing things that people from other lands find strange and it will never change! So glad and happy you have fitted in so well, now, would you like a cuppa and a piece of cake? 🤣🤣

Early days I know Jess, but once you do eventually return to the US, will you come back here for holidays? Because fuel is so costly here Jess, most people look for cars that usually do at least 30 to 35 miles per gallon. But as you've found with your Mini, some cars will do more than that.... And yes Jess, most of us here are a friendly bunch! It's only a small island, so it's better for us all if we get on ok!

Lamb definitely has to be my favourite of all the regular & popular meat produce in the UK (Beef, Pork, Chicken, Turkey being the rest). Glad you’re enjoying it. I gather Lamb isn’t in huge demand in the USA going by your chats. Any reason why ? are sheep not suited to most of the USA due to climate and grazing reasons or is it because it’s simply just not been made available to the consumer. If it’s the latter you could definitely find a niche in the market with your farm ambitions when you get home 🤔

I agree that Lamb is growing on me and ranks up there compared to other meats. It's not as normalize as it is here, which I don't understand why. Would love to be able to share it with others so they can appreciate it like we have. I also want to try sheeps milk as well not easy to find I'm learning. jess our climate is very un usual for our latitude. london is 54 degress north of the equator furthur north than moscow and on the same latitude as top of hudson bay in canada we get mild snow and ice free winters and our ports are ice free all year round the reason why is the hotest and most powerfull ocean current on the plant the gulf stream from the carribean and the gulf of mexico and this tremendous rainfall we have had is when dead hurricans and tropical storms get in the gulf stream and the prevailing winds are from the south west which helps aswell our northern latitude gives britain its long summer daylight hours and its very short winter daylight hours in east anglia there are 9 hours 45 mins more daylight on the longest day of the year 21st june than on the shortest day of the year 21st december
