the bit about journey > destination really does hold true!! it’s the growth, the friends, and the experiences that make the end goal worth it 🙃

exactly! we gotta approach things one thing at a time, we can't just skip all the steps to get to the end goal... that's just not how it works and it won't be nearly as satisfying either!

I had seen this earlier (commenting quite late I know) but celebrating the little wins in pursuit of your end goal is a key point My end goal was to get into Ivey (l did fortunately get in) but even if I got a 90 or a 100 or an exam I would be like “ok good now next”, I never got truly happy of the small wins and it just makes the process stressful whether you achieve ur end goal or not

@Martin_Leung4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching man! I really enjoy the independence that uni entails, it really helped me learn a lot about myself! Strangely enough, the increased responsibility is something I liked as well... The challenge of balancing more things in my life really helped me focus on getting rid of things I don't need in my daily schedule and that helped my personal development and personal enjoyment a lot!

How do the dorms there work? Like, which choices in terms of its structure like I heard some have kitchens or something, and how do you choose your dorm ‘partner’
@Martin_Leung4 жыл бұрын
Hey! For first years, there are seven choices for your residence/dorm (Ontario, Perth, Essex, Elgin, Saugeen, Med-Syd and Delaware). The buildings are subdivided into three categories, being suite style (Elgin and Essex), traditional style (Saugeen, Med-Syd and Delaware) and hybrid style (Ontario and Perth). In suite style, you get your own room and this is the only type of room with a kitchen in it. Traditional style is your typical dorm where more face to face interaction is present. Hybird style is a mix of both, you room with others but you get more privacy compared to a traditional style. You get to choose your dorm partner through the school's online portal. That's just the basics, for more information visit residence.uwo.ca/buildings/firstyear_buildings/index.html Hope that helps! Thanks for watching!
@EricGallant244 жыл бұрын
I’m at the point right now where I have to pick a residence, like I want the friendships that come with the Traditional style dorms but I’m going into Engineering and I enjoy my privacy. Would you recommend like an Ontario Hall? I don’t know how much you know about each type as you probably only picked one but do you still get the friendships in the suite style?
@Martin_Leung4 жыл бұрын
Hey! Welcome to Western and congrats on your acceptance! imo, I would recommend Ontario hall if you enjoy your privacy. Also, I think that you can make friends in each building, it's just that you have to be more intentional with you compared to the traditional style. There will be some floors that are "dead" and that can vary from floor to floor so I'd say be open during Oweek and get your face out there. That way it will make starting conversations easier and I think you can go from there. People are especially open during the first months of school, so I don't think the building choice affects it THAT much (it might just take more time for those friendships to blossom simply because you see each other a little less). Hope that helped, thanks for watching!
@EricGallant244 жыл бұрын
Martin Leung thanks for your quick response and I’m super excited as Western was my top choice when applying! Thanks for your input I think I’ll probably end up in hybrid and although I’m generally not a very talkative guy but I’ll definitely try and get my face out there and hopefully find some people with common interests!
@Martin_Leung4 жыл бұрын
@@EricGallant24 Yes! I'm honestly the same, I'm not very talkative (hence why I have so many cuts in my videos LOL) but clubs week should definitely be a good time for that as well (about 2-3 weeks after your first day if I remember correctly). Good luck, and most importantly have fun with it!

Martin Leung I’ve been cubing on and off the past like 5 years, what are the odds there’s a club related to that? (you probably know what cubing is but in case you don’t Rubik’s Cube type puzzles) lol
@Martin_Leung4 жыл бұрын
@@EricGallant24 haha dw I know what that is, my brother cubes. I'm not sure I remember seeing a club like that.. However, you can definitely start up that club if you're passionate about doing that! It'd be a good opportunity to get others interested in other puzzles and such! Hope that gives you an idea, maybe you and a couple of others who also like cubing/other puzzles can create something like that. Cheers! :)

Martin Leung yes thank you! I have above a 90 average and I am going to have a roommate already picked so I’m hoping to get one of my top 3! I just hear mixed answers sometimes
@Martin_Leung4 жыл бұрын
@@averilabancz-vye8876 Hey! I'm not sure if you made a typo, but the top 3 residence guarantee is for students with a 95+ average. Also, there are some students that got Saugeen after putting it as their last choice (probably to balance out the building between studious and party-going students I assume). Good luck though! With a positive attitude, you'll have fun in whichever residence you're at :)

As a second yr science student from a medium sized city, I would say that Western is okay diversity-wise. There aren't a lot of Black people at Western compared to universities in bigger cities like UofT, Mcmaster, etc., so maybe if you come from a bigger city you might feel differently. However, there is a thriving Black Students Association and African Students Association here if you're interested in getting involved!
