I went from America to Belgium to study. I studied in Antwerp and Ghent. I almost went to Delft to study, but never did. So many things I wish I knew before then. It was a bit different from America, but I really enjoyed it, especially with the other international students. Back then, the Netherlands required that students qualify for their studies, but in Belgium, no student had to quality for any studies. You could just choose what you wanted to study and if there was an opening, no waiting. That has changed in Belgium now for certain disciplines. All of the Belgian students went home for the weekend, so us international students had all of Ghent to ourselves and we knew each other. I think many Dutch students go home for the weekends too. Both are small countries, so not far to travel anywhere.

Hi Jenny, housing in the randstad is indeed very expensive. Best try outside the city. The student travelcard is handy for this.

Hi Jenny! Great video! I'm guessing RLM might not want to study in the Netherlands if bicycles are so prevalent! Hope all is well.

I notice some have outspoken opinions about the Dutch student loan system and maybe because in the video this topic is not really in depth (hahaha) explained and suggests any foreign student can apply (which is true😊) and receive the loan, which is not true😅. Please be informed at the website of DUO (dutch government) about this topic before you ventilate any useless opinion on this matter. PS Jennyrary thanks for your sincere covering of this topic. Hope you will look back on a well spend significant tremendous important part of your still young life.🎉

Can you explain a little more about what a "study association" is? Is this like fraternities or sororities here in the US?

Hey, that is a really good question. So there are different kinds of organizations: the one that I joined was specifically for the students of our Master's programme and we organized (online) events for them. There are also many sports associations, for example in the Netherlands rowing and hockey are very popular. Also there are other associations like theather groups and so on. I hope that helps! Sorry for the very delayed response. Greetings!

can I say your English is very good. being English I feel spoilt that so many people from other countries can speak my Language. I wish England Scotland and Wales would take the same attitude to bike riding ás the Dutch instead of mocking cyclists. as you Germans say Danka./thanks 👍

Actually english is a combination of many languages like latin, Sanskrit, Greek, french, etc. So it is not an language of Brits technically speaking. It is truly a international language.

It's beyond silly that we, the Dutch tax payers, have to cough up 'studie financiering' for some random foreigners, to almost 0% interest. So in effect we partly pay your study. A moronic regime we have.

You don’t know the contacts worldwide made this way, is invaluable. They further more ar making a Dutch degree more desirable, if you say you went to Harvard or Cambridge or Any other university that matters it makes your country and it is educational system look very good. That has a value, the rank of university is worldwide very important. This way the Netherlands puts its Self on the map.

@@williammccoy7127 Harvard, Cambridge: woke institutions that don't matter. Past glory. 50+% of the population attends advanced forms of education. Not because we are so smart nowadays but because the educational level of universities dropped massively. Its more then silly that we, Dutch taxpayers, finance the education of a foreign mediocre student.

@@Fjodor.Tabularasa all countries have foreign students, do you think that that Is a kind of foreign aid ! No it has a reason, for one they do pay ,for there study I believe it is around 10000 Euro per year, second most of them don’t ask for state support, they stil rent a room they still buy food and so on . No don’t worry your tax money is not spend on them. It is business.

@@williammccoy7127 no you dummy. They can get monetary assistance intended for Dutch students. And that is stupid in my book. Its a loophole in our system due to laws made in Brussels, that non elected supra national body called EUcaused it.

@@Fjodor.Tabularasa A student loan, they have to pay it back, just like Dutch students do, and the majority of foreign students don’t taken a student loan ..
