Hi Warren, I'm Paul from S.Korea. I first learned about your channel about 5 years ago and I've been keeping up with your contents ever since then(except for the time I served in the Korean Army). I always wanted to mix better and better even though I was a singer, and I never gave up on studying mixing. I bought all the contents from Pro Mix Academy and studied so hard to train my ears and craftsmanship, and finally this month, I debuted as a mix engineer and mixed a song that was published here in Korea. I just wanted to thank you the most because even though you don't know me, I learned so much from you and your contents and I believe you were mainly the reason I had so much fun mixing music. So THANK YOU for being a great teacher, and I hope you keep doing marvelously well in the future :) !!!

this is some of the best 25 minutes of living this life. i get a lot more out of the deal when i pick up a guitar and play WITH it - instead of intending to PLAY it. making music is a journey of discovery. along the way spirits reveal themselves to those who step off the beaten path and let the journey carry them. music is a manifestation of infinity. i hope to meet you one day, here or there.

I have to comment and offer up a hearty thank you. The bit about moving on with projects, and not spending weeks or months agonizing over a mix, was like gold. I may have even picked it up from another of your videos, but I took a "churn and burn" strategy with my projects and, yes ,the mixes I pushed out generally sucked in big ways, but my growth has definitely accelerated big time. I can already see it. Even beyond the technical/learning end of it, this strategy kind of opened things up for me on the creative/artistic side too, since each song is a chance to try something new and the odds of landing on something really awesome increase each time. Thank you so much.

I love that when you rack your brain for example musicians, you think of all those classic artists and bands. Nothing wrong with current musicians, but if we forget the old school musicians we lose the important foundation (and teachings) that give us what we have today. We learn so much by looking back. Not least how to write a bloody good song! Anyway, this is one of the best videos I have ever watched. Thank you.

Warren, This is beyond the most helpful video I have ever watched in my life. You really the nail on the head and, quite literally, addressed almost every single problem i've had in the last 2 years! THANK YOU! I can't say that enough. your videos are always of tremendous help. I've always had a problem with pushing past the itch of "finishing" something, even if its shite, rather than just moving on to make more and learn more. Seeking out info when I don't need it to just TRY and learn and fail! Sorry if I rambled. Beautiful video, beautiful soul, beautiful advice. Thanks again!

7 minutes into this video and I just had to pause it and appreciate the jewels this man is dropping !!!! I know I’m not the only one who feels a few pounds lighter from all the weight of mental frustration that comes from learning and understanding music production from scratch. Good Spot Man ... I needed these words of wisdom ... because I’m extremely hard and harsh on myself and I tend to judge my home recordings with the professionals and I get mad at myself for not being good enough even tho I’m fully aware that I don’t possess their equipment or their expertise 😡🤬😆 ... but in hindsight ... that’s just the drive and ambition in me that wants to be great ... I’ve learned that patience and practice and diligence and discipline are key ingredients in my pursuit of musical majesty

One of my hang ups, "You don't need to know everything". Ever since I was a pre-teen, I always thought that everyone was ahead of me and that I would never "catch up" to them. The first time I felt I was capable to achieve the high standards I set for myself was audio recording. I tracked and mixed my bands album and receive multiple nominations and an award from our area Grammy-like association (WAMI - Wisconsin Area Music Industry). Thanks for the video, Warren...actually, thank you for all that you do for the PLAP'ers and the music community in general.

I always wanted to produce music. I love music in general and I really want to do more than just listening to it. I want to understand it and make music. Now I started months ago and I'm still nowhere near to a decent music producer. I often compare myself to others and bring myself down because I'm not as good as they are. You helped me realize that it's hard work and even those producers had to start somewhere. Not to mention that you motivated me a lot to not give up. Thanks.

Warren, This is such a great video and just hits so many points about music and really how to live a happy positive creative life as best as possible for musicians! I've actually tried to suppress the creative musician side for years at various times in my life feeling like it was kinda of curse and taking away from that 'Normal Life' of corporate world and career, but now I realize it's a gift from God and Universe! So we must explore and share no matter happens! I've picked up many things from your videos and adding them into recording and mixing process. I'm also in process of trying to capture my old reunited three piece band's live rock jam style sound which with some of things I've learned from you have been key 🔑, especially the part where you say all the plugins in the world are great but first try to get the best possible sound printed firsthand, then you've got a great base to build the production within the DAW! Thank you ever so much Sr. Warren! 🎸😎🍺✌️🥁🙏

I've been a hobbyist for 20+ years, and I'm STILL learning new things. I find it entertaining to go back to some of my old mixes and re-working them, using knowledge an equipment I've acquired in the years since. A lot of times the recording is actually pretty good; I just didn't know how to properly mix. And since my mixes still don't sound like Warren's, I still have a lot to learn.

Very good point at about 14:00 about happiness as it pertains to artistry. While it's easy to romanticize the troubled artists, often their best work was not conceived amidst their darkest hours. Marrying your creative output to your mental state I think is an icarian proposition, particularly if you attribute your creative worth to your substance use. These are very great tips, love all the vids I see from you Warren. Been especially loving the inside the song series!

So true. I had client's that could never settle on a take and just kept on recording in search of their idea of perfection...its an ego thing. Although some where very gifted they were insular and never trusting. Sadly, they never finished anything worthwhile musically. Better to have determination and humility than an over-blown ego. This is what makes the greats great.

One of THE best videos about music creation I have ever experienced. I use the phrase “steal with pride” a lot which people misinterpret. I’m going to steal your definition of this concept now Warren!

The first thing you mentioned was very apropos, Warren -- yesterday I was trying to finish yet another something I started a while back and it's still not coming together but I decided to set it aside and move on to something new. Now I'm sure it was the right decision. Thanks for all your help.

Great. My father was sound engineer since 1948 to 1990 at pathé Marconi EMI studio in Paris (Boulogne). All the good things you explain, he told me a long time ago. Work, relation ship, psychology, attitude, working, working, working. It's not easy but it's a good way of life, and not only in sound and music. Thanks for that.
