Javier, thank you so much for all the work you do. I am "self-taught" in Premiere Pro (with a heaping thanks to you, of course. Hence the quotation marks around "self-taught".) Now, I got my first official video editing gig (outside of friends and family) and I wanted to show my appreciation to you for being my teacher. I am truly grateful. Now, I'm branching out into Photoshop and After Effects. Anyway, thank you. Keep up the stunning work.

In addition to many of the things that you covered here's something I like to utilize sometimes. When I'm making a thumbnail for example and the logo doesn't stand out very well, sometimes I'll play with blend modes. With the logo layer selected click on the down arrow for the blend mode. When the menu opens you don't have to select each mode one at a time you can just drag your mouse down over each one and watch the appearance of your logo change as you go. Sometimes this will really make the logo stand out on the thumbnail. The appearance will also change if you drag the logo to a different area of the thumbnail for example bottom left corner to the bottom right corner if that area of the thumbnail is different than the original position. There are too many variations to explain, just play with it and see what happens.

Great video as always!!! On #5, there are two fundamental ways to pull out objects. Color or Shape. You demonstrated the basics of shape selection. But if you have say hair against a solid color background than Color would be better. Like you say, a complex subject! One of the things that tripped me up for a while is create a "new fill or adjustment layer". It would apply the effect to all the layers below it. "Create a clipping mask" with it would make sure only the layer below is affected. In general, I still can't wrap my head fully around how layers and masks work. I mean, I can use PS fine, but I'm always a bit not sure what I'm doing ;) I'd love for you to do a layers and masks video one day. See if you can really burn it into my brain, how they work ;)
@JavierMercedes4 жыл бұрын
Yes to all of this, after I uploaded I said to myself I should have included the clipping mask part about adjustment layer, just isn’t the same as video editing where you just drag an effect on a layer and it works. Great additions!

Hi Javier - Firstly, love your channel and have learned so much from it, especially how to edit faster. When I import a PNG with transparent background from PS into Premier, I always get a white stroke around the image, no matter what I do in Select and Mask. What's going on? Interestingly, when I add a stroke like you did in the video, the line doesn't appear around the stroke, or anywhere at all.

I have had Adobe Master CS6 from my high school from 2011. I don't know if its truly worth upgrading at this point, as I do this just for grins. But I use the stamp tool to create an outline then merge it into Premiere Pro with a green mask like you did to show a video through the stamp (or logo). Still, I'm just dipping my feet into this. Thank you dude for your videos; they are fantastic!

That’s pretty cool! I’ll have to try that ☝️. It’s great to see how others accomplish a certain effect, thanks for watching Dakota!

thank you for your efficie3nt and helpful videos Javier! I have a question - can you tell me- if you bring a photo shop document or preset with text (like a lower 3rd preset) and drop it into the premiere timeline, can you edit the text on the layer in Premiere? I would think yes, but I'M Still; very new to this and my brain gets confused. Thanks!

unfortunately no, you would need to edit it in PS and save and that change will show up in PR

Hey mate. May I ask a question. On #9 it says How to import PSD files from PS TO Premiere. If the PSD file is big in size like the resolutions, dimensions, etc, and more vectors inside of it. Is it still recommended to use PSD? Does it affects the Premiere Project to load the files, system lag and heavy too? Thanks! :)
@LilSassy3 жыл бұрын
Do you do the majority of your graphics/text in PS and then import them into Premiere or was that just for the tutorial?

Select and mask at 6:30, that's a new one for me. I usually just duplicate the selection and hide the background and wind up with the jankiest of janky edges.

Haha I’ll have to use Janky in my next tut to describe something, what you saw here was a very quick and dirty version of how to mask, there are some pretty robust tools to do fine tuning like hair follicles and such. Glad it helped and thanks for watching/commenting on my vids, means a lot!
