It is one of the most beautiful countries on earth, whose name literally means Black Mountain, a country where its imperious mountains descend into the Adriatic Sea, a wonderful blending of Nature at its finest.
Montenegro has only been fully independent since 2006, but its heritage dates back millennia, and its tourism industry is booming, offering a luxury that is harder to find elsewhere on the Adriatic.
I have been visiting since 2001 and have witnessed a country undergoing enormous change. And nowhere more so than on the Lustica Peninsula, a slice of heaven that is being developed by Egyptian-Swiss company Orascom, with a planned 7 hotels, 2 marinas, 18-hole golf course, and a village of 2,500 people.
Pride of place and arguably the best luxury address in Montenegro is The Chedi Lustica Bay, who invited me to visit in January 2023 to discover the real Montenegro off-season, and with whom this video is made in paid partnership. You can learn more about The Chedi Lustica Bay on the official website - www.chedilusticabay.com/
So what did I find in Montenegro? Here are 10 things that I think are amazing about this small but stunning land.

I think the Montenegrin people are super nice. I like their mentality. I did drive up their coast from Bar to Sveti Stefan and I have to say I expected it to be more beautiful considering how much their coast is praised by people. I did hear that Kotor and Herceg Novi are much nicer so that might be interesting to see. I also loved their mountains. They have a special look to them, it made me feel like I was on another planet.

Have you explored the healthcare for expats ? I'm Australian, retired due to medical reasons, have a full disability pension and thinking seriously about migrating to Croatia; somewhere near Omis - my pension will come with me but not the healthcare ... I have family in Croatia (lots) and would seek dual citizenship via my fathers side who are from Senj. It is possible to get a healthcare card or whatever their system is ? The coast of Montenegro belongs to Croatia as far as Sveti Stefan and Boka Kotarska is concerned, perhaps a few km of the southern coast belongs to Albania. True Montenegrenians are mountain people who only recently were given access to the coast when it was given to them by Tito.

Montenegro was once part of Kingdom of Croatia. it was županija Duklja. then pope granted them independence. Boka Kotorska was croatian territory till 1917 when it was stolen from us but not only Boka but also easter Srijem all the way till Belgrade. Petar Petrovic Njegos wrote to Ban Jelacic when we were at war with Hungary that he will send Montenegrin troops to aid the war.....because it is brotherhood thing to do. Ban politely decline the offer. That is why Montenegrins speak with "ijekavica" dialect....they are our kin. Fun fact....until it was conquered by Stefan Nemanja, serbian king,Duklja was populated by Croats and 90% were roman catholic citizens

Paul you still have to learn , I mean a lot . Kotor Bay is historical Croatia and costline in general all the way to Bar, but most important think you don't know is that al those real estate projects is kokain a cigaretes money laundring scheme true variuos russian and Arbab world dictarorship regimes where 10% fee gives you a deal . Lustica bay , Tivat , Aman , Dukley Hills... it's all Milo Đukanović property 100% . If you think that some Azerbejdzan (turkish ) company would be alowed to own something significant in Montenegro and it's economy than you seriusly dont' know 0,1% of montenegrin history and mentality.

Haha, thanks for your comment. I am aware how things work in Montenegro and the wider region, as well as the history. I am also aware of tourism in 2023 (which is my primary focus), and the fact is that at the top end, Montenegro is doing a great job attracting high-paying guests, and with the product to match. Visiting Lustica in January was a fantastic experience, and for foodies, the choice of international cuisine, for example, beats most of what is available on the Croatian coast during the season in terms of variety. For The Chedi, for example, to have 35 out of 135 full-time staff who have been there 5 years means these are careers not seasonal jobs as on the rest of the coast. From the point of view of the visiting tourist, it was a fantastic experience.
