Hi!! I live in Estes park and I like to spend my days off on the national park. So here are few extra things to do! 1. Wild basin area is the less popular, but definitely its been one of the most beautiful places I’ve been, it makes you feel like you are in a movie, total in the middle of the forest. Ouzel falls is my favorite in the entire park and I’ve done about 15 hikes in the entire area. 2. Estés park has great locations like Lily Lake, which is a peaceful place to just walk around the lake with a great view of Longs Peak, it is located on highway 7, which I consider an scenic drive! As well in Estes park you will find Gem Lake, moderate hike located in town, no time entry or fee needed, but parking might ask for permission, which you will have already if you have your passes for the rmnp. 3. Lake Haiyaha, moderate hike as well, passing dream lake. Has stunning views and a perfect blue clear water 4. Lake Irene, as well a peaceful place, with picnic tables around where you can have a nice lunch, loop around the lake with stunning views (and wildlife). 5. Mary’s lake at night (located in Estes park) I know sounds awkward, but as a local, if you like astronomy, this place is perfect during night if you want to have some pictures from Milky Way. 6. Don’t miss Estes park downtown, has great restaurants, beautiful river sidewalks and restaurants. 7. Mustang mountain coaster in Estes park. 8. Ohh, don’t miss fern falls, easy hike and it is so beautiful! 9. If you are a professional hiking as she mentioned, chasm lake on longs peak trailhead it’s going to look like another world, an experience I will never forget. Hard hike, but very worth it! I hope the information is helpful for your next visit, and I apologize in advance for any wrong spelling, I’m still learning the language!

In Wild Basin is the "Ouzel Falls via Wild Basin Trail" at about 5.3 miles round trip. It's a nice wooded hike along a few creeks with crazy rapids, and you end up standing below a strong waterfall. Download all the trails in the area in case you want to hike farther. My AT&T service was terrible the entire way.

The National Park is open 24/7, so you can head into the park at night and just drive past the entrance booth (it likely will not have anyone there to provide entrance info) to film the night sky! Hi - if you are just driving on Trail Ridge Road, you should be fine in a standard car. They plow the road for vehicle traffic in summer months. It looks like Trail Ridge road and Alpine Visitor Center will still be closed this Memorial Day weekend 2024 due to the snow/weather they have been receiving. More info on road status here: www.nps.gov/romo/planyourvisit/road_status.htm

Great video! What area should one stay in to most easily visit the park?
@TravelSzN
@TravelSzN Жыл бұрын
You have 2 options! I would recommend Estes Park on the eastern side if you'd like to see Bear Lake area (popular area of the park). Or you could stay in Grand Lake if you'd like to see more of the SW region of the National Park. Both areas are unique and have beautiful views, but it seems the eastern part of the park is more popular with visitors. If you want to see the entire park, it is about a 2 hour drive from the Grand Lake entrance to the Estes Park entrance.

We’re looking at staying in Estes Park. Which trails are best to take with a toddler in a hiking carrier on your back? I’m not an experienced hiker, have only hiked the Inks Lake trailheads here in the Texas Hill Country. I’m pretty fit but exercise wise, a bit outta shape since having my son. Maybe I should make a goal to strengthen and prepare my muscles for our trip in June. I’m just trying to figure out the best trails to take that won’t kill us or make us regret walking because they’re so long. We have never taken a trip like this before, never even been out of Texas. Any advice you can give would be so very helpful.

Does a golden eagle pass work if you dont have a reservation? Thank you
@TravelSzN
@TravelSzN Жыл бұрын
Hello - it looks like you will need a park entrance pass (which would be your golden age pass), plus the timed entry reservation. So you would still need a timed entry reservation if you plan to visit May 26 - October 22, 2023. More info here: www.nps.gov/romo/planyourvisit/timed-entry-permit-system.htm I am not sure about the golden eagle passes, but I did see golden age passes and golden access passes referenced on the entrance pass website for NPS. It looks like golden age + access passes are no longer sold, but still honored if someone has one.

I have a question! Do you need permit to drive on the Alpine scenic driveway? I went on the website and couldn't find it. I will be in CO 1st week of October and wanted to explore a little bit of RMNP. I stay in Este Park overnight and plan to drive the Alpine drive way to get to Georgetown. Is it possible?
@TravelSzN
@TravelSzN 2 жыл бұрын
You will need a ticketed entry into Rocky Mountain National Park through October 10. I think you are referring to the Trail Ridge Road that takes you through the alpine section of RMNP... You will need to get the ticketed entry as you will be entering the park to take the road through it. www.nps.gov/romo/planyourvisit/timed-entry-permit-system.htm

Hi we are planning coming to Rocky Mountain National Park 2nd week of Oct this year. Is it possible to see this place in just one day or two?
@TravelSzN
@TravelSzN 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Hana! Yep you can see some of the park in a day, but you'll miss out on a lot of amazing hiking trails! If you only have one day, I would recommend stopping in the Bear Lake area and checking out one of the lakes that would be a shorter hike, then take the scenic drive up to the Alpine area if Trail Ridge Road is still open (it should be open as long as inclement weather and snow haven't come in yet). There are a few nice viewpoints /overlooks with a pull-off along that drive. When you make your way down to the west side of the park, you can pull off and check out the beautiful meadows/look for wildlife - this is a great spot to see moose and elk. And you can head out of the park through Grand Lake CO or go back the way you came if you aren't heading that direction. Have a fun time!

Do you need a permit to hike the trail that goes from grand lake town? What part of the park needs a permit?
@TravelSzN
@TravelSzN Жыл бұрын
Here is more info about the entrance reservation requirements: www.nps.gov/romo/planyourvisit/timed-entry-permit-system.htm Technically, you would need a timed entry reservation to do anything in RMNP after 9AM after May 25 this year. However, when we went into the town of Grand Lake and then drove over to the hike the East Inlet trail to Adams Falls, there was not a ranger there checking entry passes. Just a sign that said this is National Park land, follow NP rules, etc.

We have this one! amzn.to/3Jh7byO and it works great for us! Our only trouble with that one is that stability isn't the strongest (the tripod part isn't as sturdy as it could be).

Have visited RMNP yearly from Nebraska since our honeymoon in 1975. You did a fabulous job of including all our favorites. Wild Basin area is really nice. If you return be sure to include it. Will be subscribing. Thanks.
