We LOVE Chicago. Living 90 miles away, it is a yearly day-trip for us. Buddy Guy's not only has insanely good blues music, but awesome cuisine. Just using the Red LIne between Wrigley Field & "Comiskey Park" takes you within blocks of almost every possible place you'll want to go. (And it was the kid's first train ride.) Red button hit - glad to support fellow journeyers and storytellers!

Chicago crime is highly concentrated/segregated. It’s interesting how people who have never lived here like to pretend like they know everything about the city, because of what they see in the news. For example, the Chicago downtown are is actually once of the safest places in the city. Most of the violence occurs in specific south and west side neighborhoods.

What I really hate is when they say “well if your city has bad areas it isn’t safe!” No city is 100% safe! Every big city has places to avoid! By making that argument you’re basically saying every city is dangerous! So is Chicago really an exception? Plus, Chicago doesn’t even make the top 10 or 20 most dangerous cities!

I love watching the videos people do on Chicago to see how accurate they are. I've lived in Chicago all my life and know damn near EVERYTING there's to know. I also know when people over exaggerate the truth. Like the weather for example. It breaks around the middle of March. Yes we still have cold days, maybe a light snow and that happens barely in March and April. I'd say Thanksgiving to st. Patrick's day is the coldest weather. After that you're good. You will still need a jacket but it's not teeth chatting nipple burning freezing outside in March and April. If anything it raining a lot or wet an muddy from all the melted snow.

Great advice. As a native here's a few more suggestions. Take the Wendella river architecture tour, Segway tours, go to Blues on Clark for great music. Ditch the deep dish which is NOT what Chicago is known for, that's a recent invention, instead really enjoy THIN crust at Pat's or Pequods or several other great pizza places. On the L's (elevated trains) travel to our great neighborhoods, have a cocktail or beverage of your choice at the John Hancock 95th, and enjoy the magnificent views!
@CreativeTravelGuide2 жыл бұрын

Of course Chicago is known for deep dish pizza. Everyone knows that it is. Chicago also has great thin crust, too, but Chicago is known for deep dish. Also, why do you tell people to visit the neighborhoods (a very good idea), but then tell them to go to the Signature Room on the 95th floor of the Hancock? That's not going out into the neighborhoods.

It is pretty nice, yet it has been cold recently like in the 40s and it will be for the near future. Today, April 15th, there was a low in the upper 30s and a high in the mid 50s. This is mostly due to wind. Earlier this month we hit 80 though. It also is usually pretty rainy this time of year, it does usually clear up by May 10th or so, sometimes earlier.

That is only in the bad areas. Downtown Chicago is safe. If you're not from here, don't say things you know nothing about

"10 THINGS TO KNOW BEFORE VISITING CHICAGO"....... Bring a gun
@dennisd44522 жыл бұрын
Update. This past year is very high of crime in the city of Chicago. I should know. I live here all my life. Car jackings to masses guns getting into the wrong hands of people. I would think several times before coming here. I would have to say visiting New York City would be safer. though we smell better than New York ever will.

The video asks what am I looking forward to doing? I’m looking forward to not getting shot or robbed. Other than that, hopefully to have a great time.

Also, for the duration of your stay in Chicago, expunge the words please and thank you as you'll never hear them in Chi town such is the coldness of the people.

This is yet another Chicago video that is full of errors. (1) The winters in Chicago are not "bitterly cold." Yes, it can get very cold, but that would be a temporary condition and basically an exception more than anything else. I am writing this in Chicago in mid December and it's 54 degrees outside. I went out yesterday wearing a t-shirt and no coat. (2) DON'T pack layers when you come to Chicago in the summer. It does NOT get cold in the summer. And when they say that the summer in Chicago is "cooler by the lake," they mean that the lake front might be 76 degrees instead of 85 degrees. Lake Michigan doesn't make the weather worse. It has a stabilizing effect on the weather: it makes things cooler in the summer and warmer in the winter. It does NOT get cold enough for you to need layers in the summer. (3) the Green Mill in Uptown is NOT a blues bar. It is a jazz bar, one of the most famous jazz bars in the country. If you want blues, go to Kingston Mines in Lincoln Park or go to Buddy Guy's Legends in the south Loop.

Oh wow! We just moved to Chicago in October and I haven’t managed to brave it outside in a t-shirt! But thanks for all your tips, we will have to check out those Blues Bars you mentioned!
