Teams have to do both take big swings on players as well as develop the talent they have. The 49ers are a demonstration of how a team can take a big swing at QB and miss and not lose their jobs. No team gets better without taking risks, and a team is foolish if they take too many risks without a backup plan.

If you get hit the wrong way it's all bad for any QB so you can't have him loosing outside of injury prone at this point. Not enough reflects that he cant be great.
