Jaws 2 is a frigging masterpiece. The story is perfect, the stakes are higher, and the terror is still intact and well preserved throughout the entire film. Definitely one of my favorite sequels of all time.

Honestly, no matter what people will say about this film, I can't really find myself hating it. I grew up with this and the first one, even as a kid, I saw them as being some of my favorite films. While I may not like this film as much now, I still agree Jaws 2 is a great sequel, and compared to the later entries, it wasn't that difficult to say which Jaws sequel was the best of the three.

1978 was my senior year of high school. I could identify with all of the teenagers in Jaws 2. I especially thought the way Brody killed the shark in Jaws 2 was fantastically spectacular! In addition, I had a wild crush on Donna Wilkes! When I’m feeling nostalgic, I pop in the DVD of Jaws 2.

I was 13 when Jaws 2 came out, and I love it more than the first. Probably because I identified more with the kids in the movie, living in a coastal town and all. Plus my dad reminded me of Brody…. I could totally see my dad doing what Brody did at the end. (Especially going after the kids the way he did, stealing the boat and all.)

I absolutely LOVE JAWS 2! It's my favorite out of the series of movies, and I hate saying that because the original is SO GOOD! But, I'm a shallow person, lol. I like the extra gore, extra kills, and the group of stranded teenagers. Now I know the original is a superior movie. It's masterpiece. Beautiful movie. I, was a fortunate 7 year old in 1978, and my parents took me to see Jaws 2 at the theater. We were on vacation visiting relatives in Maryland, which was a BIG city to me because we lived on an Island off the coast of N.C. The family home is still there. But anyway, we went to see Jaws 2 in a Mall movie theater, and the theater had display windows. I'll never forget it! They had nets hanging in the windows with bloody arms and legs hanging in them and some life jackets either bite marks in them, IT...WAS ...AMAZING ! I've been a horror lover ever since I was a kid because my parents introduced me to it.

I love the idea of a prequel to the series. In this day of spin offs, reboots and remakes, it would be a great way to continue the franchise in a totally unique way that does not diminish the original films in any way. The Quint storyline of the Indianapolis sinking would be awesome and possibly even the Hooper backstory of his boat getting eaten by a shark as a kid and then his fascination and experiences of dealing with sharks leading up to hunting Jaws. So many possibilities without remaking or rebooting a classic movie....

I saw this in the theater the summer of 1978 when i was about a month shy of my 5th birthday. My Mom and Aunt took me and my cousin to see this at a matinee. Then they took us to Jones Beach by our house. Which is in NY. Ya know, Long Island. Where the movie was set in the damn book. Thanks Mom. Been uneasy swimming in those dark waters ever since. Side note : As a kid i felt "safer" after this experience in swimming pools. Then i caught an episode of the show Manimal. Where at the end he slipped into the pool of some criminal and turned himself into a shark and all you see before the credits is some guy on a pool floaty and a fin coming up behind him. Thanks 1980's TV. Lol.

Could just make a USS Indianapolis movie with a young Quint in it, and have flashbacks of Shaws speech. The novel and movie has enough of character development for him. Ending with him giving the speech to Hooper and Brody. No real need to introduce the Great White from Jaws and have it leaving so many survivors in the ocean, especially wh ef n he directly stated he saw a Tiger Shark... a massive Great White would definitely be mentioned.

JAWS 2 is definitely a really good movie. Loved the storyline and return to Amity Island. I also love how they shown that this shark was such a monster that it took a huge bite out of an Orca. The only issue I have with the movie is the lack of blood. Everyone knows that when there is a nasty shark attack there is blood everywhere. Other than that definitely a really good movie to watch. 👍

Still holds up as a good sequel. I do love the Hooper reference as Brody would have definitely reached out to him. So was his obsession and PSTD. I wonder, had Scheider been on board completely would he have delivered a more compelling performance, a la Sigourney Weaver in Aliens or was the tension on set just what he needed to portray the character perfectly. Either way, the soundtrack was actually better (I listen to it more) and I do love the alternate posters.

I thought the music was better over all as well. I don't think either is anywhere near close to John's best work. Some of it is really goofy in tone and seemed more filling of Swiss Family Robinson than a suspense/horror film imo. The barrels and sailing themes in particular didn't work for me. The shark theme is obvious brilliant and surprisingly underutilized.

I LOVE this movie! The perfect follow up companion piece to JAWS makes a great rainy Sunday afternoon couch potato double feature! If JAWS is lip-smacking caviar, then JAWS 2 is belly-filling meat & potatoes as Director Jeannot Szwarc described both in the Marvel comic interview page. . That terrific Marvel comic is based on original director John Hancock’s darker vision and it is interesting to see which story beats such as the two divers eaten while exploring the sunken Orca and the helicopter sequence made it to the revised final screenplay. Also - another Australian tie-in, the novel was serialised in the Australian Rupert Murdoch stable of newspapers. I recall reading the novel in Adelaide’s The News / Sunday Mail in serialised form in the lead-up promotion of the movie and was quite entranced by the story of the lone seal escaping ahead of the near-birth engorged female Shark! I am sure Melbourne and Sydney newspaper equivalents would have had the same serialised novel. I may check out the library newspaper archives for this!

The funny part is there is another Brody kid in novel and if I remember correct he was eldest son Billy, he was older than Mike and Sean. They could easily solve that age gap with making Billy returning school or something like that. After all actors changed and instead of Mike, Billy took the role.

I read the novel a long time ago and vaguely remember the shark in Jaws 2 as being a female and the mate of the shark in the original film. She was returning to Amitys waters to mate. Again it's only a vague memory but I think this is how the book described the scenario. And I agree with you about the posters. Although the teeth are exaggerated on the original poster it looks like a Great White. The shark on the Jaws2 poster looks like some Great White x Tiger shark hybrid.

I’ve never even seen Pt. 3 and I saw The Revenge once back when it came out (wack).

Jaws is by far one of the best movies I've ever seen, and recently I went into all four movies and created my own novel based on the movies.

I absolutely agree with you. I always thought that Jaws 2 was a very good movie I loved it at the time. And I still love it and I do think it's scarier than the first. I don't think it's better and stuff like that but it is scarier

Glad to see I’m not alone in liking the sequel but let’s be honest, Eddie wanted to give Tina more than a blanket.

you certainly met the standard of retro movies with your big reflective glasses showing all the filming equipment. Jaws was a masterpiece, Jaws 2 was a slasher movie with backstory and familiar characters for nostalgia.

I doubt the hammerhead story as they're icredibly shy and skittish, they're pretty much scared of their own shadow

Yeah… only 16 encounters since 1900, and no deaths. Hell, they charter dives off the Flower Gardens during hammerhead mating season just so you can see them close up. Mating season!!!

I went cross-eyed after time line explainsion. Also, funny when the mayor was 100% wrong in both jaws 1&2 still being voted mayor of Amityville. Oh wait... Amityville is a different movie.

I honestly like too believe that the first two jaws movies are the real movies and the others are fever dream movies by one of the Brody sons. The first movie is Martins Movie and his terror, Jaws 2 is Sean's and Michael's Terror. And that's why the next two were more odd. I think the third jaws is a fever dream That Michael has, and that's why he's a little older. And in jaws the revenge it's a dream that Sean has. That's why he dies at the beginning of the movie. And that's why the movies are kinda off, they're fever dreams.

I wish they didn't remove the scene where mayor von votes against firing Brody if you watch the scene where he confronts the mayor and the selects men the mayor does seem to be acting strangely and that scene makes it make more sense he was arguing on Brody's behalf and Brody kind of sabotage himself

How's it going Mindy I know this is a little late but I got to say you do a great job and the opening scene in Jaws revenge when the youngest Brody brother gets his arms ripped off one by one and really murdered was one of the scariest things I ever saw as a kid hands down keep up the good work thank you

I have a soft spot for Jaws 2, as it was the first Jaws movie I ever saw. It was on the BBC on a Saturday afternoon when I was a kid in the late Eighties. The crispy dead body jumping out of the surf at Brodie, has stayed with me for life. Regarding the ages and “timeline”, I find it easier to see the first two movies as “canon”, and the other two as bad fanfic. It’s just kinder on my sanity that way.

I like Jaws 2 ...Second half not as much. I thought the teens got annoying after a while , but Jaws 2 is held together by the great performance of Roy Scheider. He doesn't play Brody the same as he did the first time & John Williams underrated score.
