I love this movie and I think it has one of the best endings in the history of Cinema. When the Action Hero goes back into the Screen he tells the boy that he will be there for him whenever he needs him. The idea that we can use a movie, tv show, music or any other art form to enpower us or to provide a escape from life is a touching sentiment. Whether you are feeling down and need something to make you feel better or a Character like Atticus Finch to restore your faith in humanity and show you the way forward. This movie's ending absolutely Beautiful and inspiring.

This has been my favorite movie since it came out. I think I was in first or second grade. Back then, to me it was the greatest action movie. But growing older I've caught all the jokes and tongue'n'cheek satire that is truly what the movie is, and is genuinely a masterpiece. I watch it once or twice every year. Where as when I was a kid I watched it all the damn time. And I can still quote the damn thing almost word for word. When my kids got to about the same age I was when I first saw it, i introduced them. And they love it too. My 16yo now sees the brilliant comedy behind it and now has a new appreciation for just like I did around that age too. This is on of those perfect movies in my eyes that has only gotten better everytime I watch it... like die hard, lethal weapon, T1&T2, and a few others. It's not everyone's cup'a'tea but to those it appeals to, it is very much a beloved film.

This film was so ahead of the crowd, especially the narrow minded critics. That "Too many cooks in the kitchen" thing doesn't apply here because even though it wasn't intentional, I think that having so many writers on the same film really helped make this film so diverse in feel and themes. It really works for me, a true rare breed. So glad that the dimensional elements were kept in because I think it's like the way that life imitates art and then influences in life create more art. It comes full circle. And how at the end when Danny doesn't want to leave the film World because he feels like he'll lose his favourite hero but Arnie says he'll always be around when he needs him. That makes me think of how people, including myself, often use entertainment, especially the very immersive and deep kinds of entertainment, are like a false sense of escapism but if you don't come back to the real World, bad things can happen like you can lose yourself in it. Also, how many people seem to get attached to celebrities all the time and sometimes get obsessed. They feel like they love those celebrities but actually only love the character they're portraying. I'm actually glad that Alan Rickman said no, I love his portrayal of Hans Gruber in Die Hard, it's bloody amazing, but Charles Dance absolutely owned the role of Benedict. It's so iconic and memorable, especially the sly and clever remarks he makes about Vivaldi and all the funny 4th wall breaks like when he proves his theory =P Fair play to Arnie throughout too, most of his films are full on action and for him to take the piss out of the whole genre and himself at times just shows how humble a man and a good sport he is. One of my all time favourites. Great video Minty. The film's got one heck of a soundtrack too, both score by Michael Kamen and licensed tracks.

I agree with you Minty and a lot of other comments here. I liked "Last Action Hero" and saw it for what it was. It was simply a satire making fun of all the high powered action movies of its time. I actually liked the concept and the thought process behind it. While there was a part of the finished product that I liked, the fact that Danny kept trying to convince Jack that it was infact a movie, got a little tedious and boring and took away from the plot some. I liked your comparisons too in saying it wasn't serious enough to be "Lethal Weapon" but not outlandish enough to be "Loaded Weapon" (another satire of the 80s cop movies). I do have to say that for Arnold's next movie after "Terminator 2", the public might have been expecting something more but I also think at this time Arnold might have been trying different movies that would expand his acting abilities because this is not too far removed from him doing movies such as "Kindergarten Cop" and "Twins".

Loved this film. Specifically Charles Dance's character. I thought he was the epitome of cool with a dash of funny via his frustrations with the late great Anthony Quinn

Even though it's called Last Action Hero it's still a very underrated Schwarzenegger action film.

I worked on LAH at the main FX house. It certainly was rushed. The last couple weeks we had to go to 7 days, 10 hr days just to do all the digital stuff (which wasn't as complicated as Jurassic Park). Part of our company was in New York, so we had to mail footage back and forth. We were wondering how it would do against JP. The fx supervisor, Stuart Robertson, said "Arnold vs dinosaurs? My money's on Arnold." (Stuart would later win an Oscar for What Dreams May Come)

Last Action Hero is a really fun movie! I remember watching it at a friend’s birthday party and we all laughed a lot and had a great time! That’s probably my favorite memory with this movie! Arnold does a fantastic job in this movie and gives an incredible performance! This will always be high up on my list of favorite movies featuring Arnold Schwarzenegger!

I remember one review called it "a boated Americanisation of 'Cinema Paradiso'" which is frankly the most stupid comparison ever.

🤔 I think the movie was deeply philosophical, especially the boy talking to Grim Reaper.

Having heard nothing but bad reviews about Last Action Hero, I walked in to the theater expecting NOTHING. What I got was one helluva good time. I got the joke right away & enjoyed the hell out of it. The cameos made perfect sense to me as these are the people that would populate Hollywood if it existed in a movie universe. My favorite part was when Danny tried to explain that this world Slater lived in couldn't be real because ALL phone numbers started with 555 & thus eventually you would run out of combinations. Slater calmly turns around & says, "That's why we area codes". Luv it!

And one of the best movie antagonists in Charles dance as Benedict. Made just the right amount of Cliche villain tropes of 80s and 90s action bad guys, and also genuinely methodically terrifying. Benedict- "HELLO! I HAVE JUST SHOT SOMEBODY AND I DID IT ON PURPOSE!...I SAID, I HAVE MURDERED A MAN, AND I WANT TO CONFESS!" Man of screen in distance- "Hey, keep it down out there" Benedict- *looks at camera and smirks*

One of the best, if not best satire films on a particular movie genre in history. Last Action Hero was and still is a gem for it's time.
