Great tips! Some I've never heard before - like acknowledging that a "style rule" may not work if our goal isn't in line with that rule. I especially appreciate that you acknowledge that we don't all have to have the same goal. We don't all fit into one box. Let's embrace our differences!

Really helpful, especially the info about vertical proportions - explains why swimsuits have been so hard to get to fit!

I''m 164 cm, but in almost every one-piece swimsuit, I look kind of stuffed, tight... (I don't know the exact word for that). Either the top or the bottom is always not in line with my body haha. I can't decide if I have a long torso considering I'm so small. When I wear a longer shirt, my legs look even shorter, but when I wear high-waisted pants, my legs look long but the top looks like I'm a clown in clown pants 😄 So I don't know what the case is with me.

@@Bea-xc7wythe way to measure your vertical type is to look at yourself (in underwear or leotard) and see where your hips are on your frame. If they are roughly halfway up your body than you have balanced proportions. If your hips are below halfway up your body, you are long torso/short leg type. If your hips are more than halfway up than short torso/long leg type. Anybody of any height can be any of the three. My mother was 5'2" and had long torso/short leg type. I am 5'0" and have the exact opposite. I know taller people with all three.

Swimsuits, body suits, and leotards are difficult for any of us who aren't balanced type.

I an 5'2". Long torso, short legs. AND I am apple shaped. Found empire waists work for me. Also stay away from long blouses (most are long on me) which shorten the legs. Shorter jackets are best on me. Long pants better but I live in Florida and wear capris. Its hot! At 83, still care what I look like but at times it is a battle! Thanks for good info. 😂

Thank you, great insight! When you mention that people aren’t two-dimensional, I think that in typical (pear, apple, hourglass) categorisation people also forget to think about what you look like in profile. For example, people might have defined hour-glass waist when you look at them from the front or behind, but have a bigger tummy they are not comfortable with. And then all usual advice for hourglass people simply don’t apply anymore. Also, I really appreciate what you said about people choosing for themselves what they want to emphasize or hide - not everyone wants to end up looking perfectly feminine and balanced, maybe someone is aiming for androgyne or dramatic sillhouette or sporty width.

Great tips! Im 5'8" and I have a long torso, but my leg length fits in regular length jeans, so I look best in higher rise jeans to shorten my body length up a bit and elongate my legs. I'm not sure what body shape I have. My hips and shoulders are the same width, so depends on what I'm wearing I can hour glass or rectangle shape.

All of this!! Such good advice. And don't forget about profile view. What is best from a front or rear view can look terrible from the side. While a change in lifestyle allowed me do this more easily, I am all about dresses and skirts these days. If you get the right silhouette, they can easily hide and accentuate what you want, as well as accommodate weight gains and losses.

Thank you. I truly appreciate your advice. I like that you don't stick to some generic formular but work with all the aspects that are important. Too often you see advice on youtube like: if you are that body shape dress like that and avoid this, in order to look elegant you need those specific items ...

I am inverted triangle but curvy. I usually have to combine advice for inverted triangle and round (apple) so that my curves are accounted for. My vertical type is short waist/long leg which works fine with the inverted triangle advice but tends to clash with me being petite (because somehow me having longer legs in proportion to my height (5'0") isn't something designers and Taylor's think about when they make clothes. Luckily my aunt is a fantastic seamstress and helps me hem pants and jacket sleeves all the time.

The body shape images only look at the torso. If you have a short neck (I do!) and a small head, then adding bulk to the upper half swallows the head. We are so much more than the cartoons of torso shape.

Thanks Sarah, you talk common sense, sometimes fashion dictates, but you have to realise to trust your gut instincts eg I’m 5’2 and although wide trousers are every where I feel they suit women who are tall with long legs , they swamp my frame, a straighter leg suits my proportions. Keep up the good advice.xx

I don’t know a huge amount about it however I know that it has caused confusion amongst several of my clients so I tend to stay away from it. I can see how it would work for some ☺️

@@sarahryanthestylecoachhi Sarah. With respect, but I strongly go by the Kibbe body type system because it changed everything for me. It explained why I was made fun of all my life being called wide. I never knew how to dress. When I followed the fruit system, it was completely wrong because it doesn't take into account bone structure. Only Kibbe does. I really don't understand how the Kibbe system could not work for some people. I respect others' opinions though.

I have some JBL headphones with bass that seem to pick up background sounds very well, because I can hear when it's raining at someone's house or a plane is flying or any sound. I don't mind it, but they often makes me think that is happening around me so I keep taking it off and putting on wondering what is it 😄

I love all your videos, but I do believe the fruit body types system is very flawed. The Kibbe system changed everything for me. It explains why some women are wider than others and how to dress; it's about bone structure that makes it accurate. For example, hourglass romantic or theatrical romantic is completely different than hourglass soft natural ,which is also completely different than soft dramatic or flamboyant natural. Not to mentiin the gamine hourglass. And the clothing for each Kibbe body type is completely different and suits you accurately. You don't have to care about short torso, long legs, etc...
