For time lapse I still do individual shots on my Sony A7IV. Reason is because I get RAW images. Yes, DaVinci resolve cannot read Sony RAW files, but it can do DNG. Using Adobe's free DNG converter program, I can take those timelapse shots, convert them to DNG, then drag and drop all the converted images into the timeline. DaVinci reads the stills as a single CinemaDNG clip. Now you get RAW controls when grading in post. Yes it's a larger file size, yes it's a few more steps, but when you're trying to get that nice motion blur and you're over exposed, it's nice to have that extra control. Also, unlike in S&Q mode, you can actually utilise the entire sensor, giving you the flexibility for reframing. Plus the stills are greater resolution that the S&Q clip.

That's a pretty helpful tip there, one thing i notice with the Sony Fx30 is PP7 and PP8 are gone from the picture profile, so i guess when shooting Log you don't use any picture profiles like before and just stet your Picture Profile to NONE!!.. Not sure if that is the way but that is what i'm guessing..

Adding to this you can most definitely do it with the A7SIII too, I know because I've used it like 50 times on APS-C and Super35 lenses to remove the vignette without cropping the full 1.5 and still shooting in 4K. I know on the FX30 you can clear image zoom to x2.0 in HD though, so maybe he meant that?

Hey, Jason. Question... I have been looking into a cage, but I am not sure if I really need it... but, I found out that I have carpal tunnel... so I was wondering if you know of anything that I can add to the A7IV to make it easier or more comfortable to hold? I do mostly photography, but some video for my upcoming YT channel/podcast. I may be moving more into video as I go, but still lots of photography. I do have a lovely tripod, as well... but I do like to shoot handheld. Any chance you might have some ideas for me? Also, I was hoping to find a great microphone... and I bought a Shure SM7B on Amazon for Black Friday, but I am wondering if I should not have bought a microphone that would attach to the camera instead. I also grabbed a Zoom H6 and a hot shoe adapter for that. What do you think? Should I order a different mic and return the other? Which would you recommend for high quality sound. I am hoping to be able to use it for everything--including recording podcast audio, music/vocals, environmental sounds, and sounds made by water and pens (I review tea and fountain pens).

The "lower" bitrate in S&Q mode is the compression rate in the final output framerate, meaning that once the footage is converted in camera, you're actually getting more data per frame as opposed to simply using the higher frame rate options in the standard movie mode. You may need to pixel peep to spot the differences in some cases, but thats where the give and take lies with S&Q vs regular high FPS shooting

@@JosephDragunov a6500 s&q has lower bitrate than normal video mode. You can calculate yourself. Record x amount of footage lets say 10sec check your file size lets say its 125MB file than /10 and *8 you will get the 100Mbps if you want to know the frame size divide by the framerate. In fx30 s&q gives you significantly more data than normal videomode

13:33 It's very untrue that focus mapping works only with selected Sony lenses. It works fine on my A7IV with my cheap AF Samyang lenses. About proxies, there is one important thing to keep in mind; if you are already recording on the speed limit of your SD card, proxies require additional bitrate, so you may have to step down with recording quality. You probably can revord it to different card, but if you use just one or record to both cards at the same time, it's a problem.

1) what kind of lighting do you have? If you don’t have a key light with a soft box, you’re not going to have a good time. Find a cheap Godox or amaran light, light stand and a parabolic soft box. 2) change your record settings to 4K 24 fps, make your shutter speed 1/50, bring your aperture down the lowest possible, and keep your ISO at the lowest without bars around it (could be 100 or 640 depending on your picture profile). 3)Record to MOV in the highest bitrate possible. The Sony files are saved a few folders deep into the SD card (it’s a little annoying) but should show up on a Mac. Drag them onto your timeline or media bin in whatever editing software you’re using.

I have just realised with your video that we need to be in All Intra (XAVC S-I) for a higher frame rate and even for 10 bits in HD. I was wondering why all videos showed higher bitrates than me xD But then for this to be allowed by Sony, we need a minimum of a V90 card :/ Also, I never use clear image zoom, but I didn't know we lose some autofocus features... Focus mapping works on my Tamron 28-75mm too, it's not only for Sony lenses ;) And the least, it is so sad that in Europe, we don't have 25p in XAVC HS... Only 50p -_- If it was not for the crop, I would actually shoot everything in 4k 50p, with 360° shutter and 180° for slow mo, just because files are much smaller...

Hi Jason, How on earth did you manage to program the zoom rotate rocker to do Clear Image Zoom. On my FX30 the operation of the Zoom rotate is greyed out . The manual says „Available only with power zoom lenses that support this function.“ Since the whole idea of your tip is to use this zoom rocker if no zoom lens is used on the cam to operate Clear Image Zoom instead that would be actually not possible if Sonys manual is correct . I hope you can clear this up. Thank you!

Also, if a camera says it records proxies, I'm assuming you mean prores proxy, which is an incredibly low bitrate version, it doesn't mean its creating a main file AND a proxy file, it's only recording a low bitrate file, which is not good for important projects

This might sound picky, but Time Lapse at 1 fps can be made even faster by dropping frames in a video editor. I generally do a sunrise by dropping every 2nd frame which makes it 1 frame/2 sec. But this is not quite what I want. On the other hand, dropping more is only "easy" at 1 frame/4 sec. What I really want is 1 frame / 3 sec. Yes, I'm being picky, but it makes a difference. What would help would be if Sony provided a 1 frame / 1.5 sec. time lapse speed. Then I could drop the odd frames to achieve 1 frame / 3 sec., which I think, would be best -- at least for me. . . . Here's the best time-lapse I made: studio.kzbin.infokx3zPGwwQ2A

I don't use Proxies, because i'm shooting with the Ninja V+ so all my footage is recorded in prores 422 ALl-I so if your shooting in all-I the computer can play back the original full masters easy, the only draw back to that is your going to need more Media Storage to record on because ALL-I makes the video file 3 to 8 times larger in file size how ever sense i'm shooting with the Ninja V+ all my stuff is recorded to a SSD drive which is cheap you can get a 4TB SSD for about $250.00 to $300.00 that is huge, or you could just get a 2TB SSD for about $130.00 Don't use SD cards or CFExpress cards way too much money a 512GB SD UHS 2 V90 would cost you around $500.00, which is insane, that is why best to go with an external Recorder, also your camera doesn't heat up any where close to recording internally, the Ninja V+ is Processing all the recording and has a cooling fan so your good there.. Also on the overheating issue, that is not an issue with the FX3 or FX30 they both have a cooling fan which blows out most of the heat. The only way the FX30 is going to overhead is if your recording at lets say 4k 120P and your out in the hot desert at a 115 to 120 D F in the direct Sun, which at that point you would probably die from heat exhaustion at that point, so i doubt any one is ever going to suffer from the FX30 over heating, i mean i used it in doors normal temp around 70 Deg for 4 hours strait shooting 4k 60 al I and it never even gave me a warning so, not sure if it would be an issue shooting 8 or 9 hours like that not sure, but so far so good. The other camera's that don't have the cooling fan i bet you might have problems tho..

@@AMomentInTimeProductions A v90 sd card of useful size is still cheaper than buying a Ninja V+, a battery and a 2TB ssd. And the Ninja adds bulk, and requires attention to another (bulky) battery that runs out fast. It completely ruins one advantage of the fx30, compactness and usefulness on gimbals. I have the Ninja V+ so I know exactly what it does and why it is not something I would recommend to anyone with an fx30, which does not overheat and has no 30-minute limit. At one time the Ninja had a use; no longer for these newer cameras.

@@markr041 that's true but it would cost you a fortune in SD cards if you do shoot internally, a 512 GB SD card that can handle 4k 60p all-i would cost you around $500.00, with the Ninja a 2TB SSD would cost you $140.00 see the difference,

It's so weird that Sony A7 IV allows you to have 10-bit color & 100/120 fps only in S&Q mode.

You don’t “have” to double your framerate. When shooting in 24/30 it gives you a more “pleasing” motion blur. But, especially when shooting higher framerates you can absolutely keep shutter at the framerate or higher

NOOOOOOOOO Your double your shutter comment was 1000000% FALSE. That is for FILM cameras. It's sad to see bad information out there that some users will hear once and never learn anything different, like me. I heard that years ago and always stuck to it when it is absolutely wrong. Your shutter should be 1/50 for 24fps, Anything past that only needs to be equal to the fps you are shooting. Love your videos but you can't be saying stuff like that man. Why on earth would you shoot 1/400 for 200fps to get natural motion blur? What does that even mean? There is no motion blur at 1/400. You should shot 1/200 if you want the most natural motion blur.

You might have to contact cinema camera companies and tell them to remove the 180 degree shutter mode so when you have 100 or 200fps it won’t be 180 degrees.

Lens defraction does noes not render the image useless. Contrast is usually much lower and you lose small amount of sharpness but this does not mean it is useless. I’ve done multiple lens tests on this all over my KZbin
