With regards to "Performance is Poor" - please compare this fairly with other similar competitor models from the mid to late 90s. The FTO was on a par with other affordable mid-performance sport coupes of that era such as the MR2, Celica, Silvia, Prelude and Integra. It should never be compared to the likes of the Supra, Skyline, EVO, GTO/3000GT which were high performance cars of that time. Equally, the FTO should not be compared to modern performance cars because technology has moved on a lot in the past 28 years. 197bhp/200PS was decent power back in the 90s - too many commentators forget this.

lol second gen mr2 > fto and you can absolutely compare the 3000gt or the eclipse dsm counter part or the subaru . celica alltrac .....im forgetting quite a few... fto looks good and i loved it in gran turismo 2, but from a realist standpoint, fwd underpowered good looking car. fwd is trash for anything other than a daily car. inferior drivetrain layout for racing.

@@fly1ngpapaya why would you compare the FTO to the GTO/3000GT when Mitsubishi built these for very different segments of the market? 🤨 FWD has its place. The FTO is highly regarded as one of the best handling FWD coupes of the 90’s alongside the Integra Type-R. If FWD is “trash” (pretty insulting) why did Mitsubishi enter the Taeivon FTO in the JGTC series in the 1998 and 1999 seasons? You must know far more than them……

@@projectcoty8520 it's insulting, it's facts. Outside a few fwd rally cars the majority of all racing ever till now uses awd or rwd. Do you not know why fwd was implemented in the first place? It's got some history. It's an inferior platform. I'm not saying you can't mod and make fwd fast. They have done it with Hondas doing amazing 1/4 times. But rwd is superior for straight line. Fastest cars in the world are top fuel in a straight line. Most major racing uses rwd. Just like mid engine rwd is what's used in F1. Shit Volvo did rally in the late 70s 80s and it was rwd. There is nothing wrong with modding a car no matter the platform but to be insulted over facts is stupid. If fwd wasn't just a cheaper option and an easier option for dumb drivers to control their vehicles. There is literally zero argument that you can put forth that fwd is better in any situation over AWD/rwd. Or just rwd by itself.

Fwd you pull. With very little rear control. Push, you have more control over front and rear.

If anyones interested, its an interesting car. The gpx version has a 9000 redline. With the mivec kicking in around 4-5k. Fun fact, the mivec doesnt kick in til the engine is warm. Also this video has so many wrong bits and pieces. The gpx has bucket seats from the factory. The gpx is a road version of the gr. Gr doesnt have air conditioning, but has more cornering features like built in sway bar, etc. The gpx plus models came with momo steering wheel from the factory. I believe it has the same double wishbone suspension just like the type r integras of the time. Its definitely a canyon carver. It grips and rips in short bursts, with a true 90s mitsubishi rally spirit. Keep it around 4-7k rpm and its just sensational 👌

Wrong about the power outputs, base v6 is 176hp, and a further mivec v6 with 200hp

Try get a manual shift but the auto is still lots of fun. I've had 5 so far. Im 52 year old and I still love them. Good luck my friend 👍

Why do you mention the s2000 and M3 as it's competitors when they aren't, both were produced after the fto pretty much, the fto's main competitors were the Honda Integra type r, Toyota celica, ford puma and ford cougar, the 2.0 models were a response to how much better performance the Integra type r had due to its 1.8 VTEC, the revised 2.0 engine had Mitsubishi's own version known as the mivec, the damage from the 1.8 ftslow damaged the brand hard enough that no one remembers just how great the new facelift 2.0 models were but for those that gave it a chance knew that it definitely competed or outperformed it's 2 closest rivals the Integra and celica. The Honda s2000 was competing against the lotus Elise and Porsche boxster whilst the M3 was against the monaro, Carrera, S4, c class amgs etc. So when you compare the facelift model to its actual rivals it fairs pretty well, it was the 1.8 that fell so short. Also I don't know whether you're aware but you show footage of the "version r" when talking about the gpx, they are slightly different and I thought it was the gpx and version R's that people want more than the others?

The GR Limited Edition - 1602 built between April-September 1995 (215 Manuals & 1387 Autos) and available in Pyrenees Black, Passion Red or Steel Silver. The GR Limited Edition had unique cloth interior but no commemorative badging like the "COTY"
