Fantastic video. Definitely a few little quirks with Shanghai versus some of the other parks.

Jennifer, I just got back from a trip to Shanghai Disneyland 2 weeks ago. I completely agree with your recommendations. "Pirates" was the reason I went there, but the Challenge Trail got my attention so tried it on my second day there. That attraction is just INSANE! It would never fly in the USA, because Americans are a) heavier than your average Chinese and b) lawsuit-happy. Challenge Trail is hilarious- the way that you're strapped into a harness and hooked into the railing above. The challenges look so easy in the movies, but when you're actually doing it yourself, it's so different, like not being sure if you can reach the next rock, or wooden plank, swaying platform etc. and if you miss, you'll be dangling in the air, embarrassing yourself and yelling "HELP!" and hoping the next person will push you onto the next rock/plank/platform. LOL. You really feel like you've accomplished something at the end. It's an "Only in Shanghai" thing. I doubt that any of the US Disney parks could, or would do rides like "Tron" or the Shanghai "Pirates". I'm sure that Shanghai wants their park to have exclusive attractions, and the other thing to consider is that Shanghai D-Land was built in 2016, while Anaheim D-land was built in 1955. Nostalgia drives a lot of Anaheim's business, and a lot of people don't like it when old favorites are removed or changed. They think, "Don't mess with my memories", and D-land wouldn't really want to gut the park and rebuild from scratch. Shanghai doesn't have the nostalgia issue, so they could build a new, forwards-looking park with the latest technologies without needing to look back.

I’ve been to all the Disney parks in the world, until Shanghai was built. I’m planning for a late summer visit. I love collecting pins, so I want this one so I can complete my international lanyard.

I totally agree with you about Pirates!! It was probably the most high-tech and coolest ride I’ve ever been on! I need to go back (also because the Challenge Trails were closed when we went)

My son and I have a 10hr layover in shanghai at pudong airport this December on the way to Tokyo Disneyland. We arrive at 6:25am and leave at 4:55pm. Is that enough time to visit the park and what's the best mode of transportation to and from the park ?

So I have an 11 hour layover at an airport 30 minutes away from the park in December. My mom is debating on whether or not we should go because it won’t be for the whole day (we land at 6am and our next flight is at 5pm and it’s on a Monday). Do we need to get visas?
@JenniferKwak7 жыл бұрын
you don't need visas! you can be in Shanghai for 144 hrs as a layover without a visa!

Thank you for this! I’m heading to China in May to work for 6 months. I’ll be working in Suzhou (about 20 mins from Shanghai). I’m thinking of getting a season pass. Is getting in to the parks a long process? I know in Disneyland Anaheim there is the train from the parking lot and everything. Also, do you think there’s enough to do if I got a pass and came a day every other week for a few months? It seems so cheap (about $250 usd) for the pass.
@JenniferKwak7 жыл бұрын
Ahhh not sure what the process would be like to get there from where you would be but taxis are cheap and there is also public transportation! It depends on how much you love Disney because I feel like I would always FIND something to do. But there is definitely a lot less to do than Disneyland in Anaheim.
@bingboyify6 жыл бұрын
i have a season pass in shanghai and i find it really fun to go once a week or two weeks cuz some rides are really fun!! and it is very easy to get to Disneyland from Suzhou, all connected by trains and metro.

How long are the lines aprox
@JenniferKwak7 жыл бұрын
It really depended on the time of day but Tron was only 15-20 minutes (but got longer as the day went on) and Pirates was around 15 minutes as well. Soarin' line was about an hour, Camp Discovery around 45min! I hear during peak season the lines are really long though!

From the blogs and vlogs I’ve seen of people going there, it looks dirty and gross. People peeing and pooping all over grounds, throwing trash everywhere, cutting in lines, treating the castle like a makeshift refugee camp, violent and rude. Idk why anyone would want to go there, considering there are much much much better Disneyland parks to go to.

Why would anyone go to a communist country for a vacation? I'm surprised Disney built a park there.
@bea16597 жыл бұрын
Exactly. This park is geared towards the huge Chinese population. People who travel abroad to this park are generally big Disney Park fans who want to experience everything Disney has to offer.

IKR i once went there and saw pee stains on the garden, people cutting lines, and going into restricted area.

why not? i dont see why. some of us actually stay here in china for a good education or job. plus, it's actually a beautiful country with lots of different culture and such. yes it is a communist country but you'll be surprised how advanced they are now. is it really that surprising to you people they would even build a disneyland park there? i mean, china is technically the most populated country in the world anyways. why wouldnt disney invest their money there like other people do?

Coming from someone living in USA police state
@TheBruceGday6 жыл бұрын
John Doe nice snark, but not equivalent. When you are in China, the police state aspect is really not apparent. It seems open and free, yet it is not. It is very controlled to enforce “harmony”. Yes, America is becoming more policed all the time, but it is not a police state...yet.
