I think you did a great job on the thumbnail. Green isn’t offensive and actually catches the eye. Staying away from larger areas filled with flat colors is the way.

Some great tips, Jesse. I use a corner of my garage so everything is right where I'm working. I do have to walk around my workbench to get to my table saw. I have a US General 26" tool chest (upper and lower) that is to my left when I'm at my work bench and to my right when I'm at my table saw. I have a couple of those magnetic shelf units (made by US General) on the side of the tool chest that I use for tape measures, push blocks, etc. So, no matter where I am, I usually have whatever I need very nearby. I can't avoid walking around between my bench and table saw and it does tend to be a time waster but it is what it is. At least I have my dust collector right by my table saw, so I don't have to walk over and turn it on and off. My workbench is a 4' x 4' piece of plywood screwed to a couple of 2x4's that sit on a couple of Kobalt metal sawhorses. It ain't pretty and it's not dead flat but it's functional. I want to make a better bench but I've got too many projects around the house that take priority. One day, though. At least I have something to work on. Keep up the good work. You've got a great channel going. I can't believe you're approaching 8,000 subscribers already. You'll get that silver plaque in no time.

Many good points. I’m more of a handyman than a woodworker--thus a larger variety tools. I’ve found keeping dedicated “kits” (electrical/plumbing/assembly/etc) saves a ton of time gathering tools for each gig. I also keep multiples around the workshop-triangle squares, pencils & markers, tape measures, safety glasses, utility knives. Anything I use frequently I have several throughout the shop and kits. One of my favorite things I’ve trained myself to use are magnetic dishes for fasteners, etc. probably have 25 of them all around and I rarely spill or misplace fasteners any more

Hey Jessie, Congratulation’s on your channel! Really enjoying your content.It’s so true how much time is wasted in a shop. Timesavers are the key to being more productive. I agree with you on having a clean shop I also clean up every evening after my day, I get a lot of grief for having such a clean shop 😂But it really does set the tempo and the mood for a productive next day. Not to mention a clean shop as a safe shop. Wishing you continued success, I’m really enjoy seeing your channel takeoff stay safe buddy! 👊

Thanks for another great video! Ive been at this for a long time, but within the first minute I was picking up a notepad and pen. * The double square: I have long considered that a luxury item that I don't "need". Now Im going to order several from Taylor Toolworks to have one at each major popwer tool (radial arm saw, bandsaw, lathe) and the bench. * Order of operations: I have been trying to do that, but now I realize I have npt been oincluding saw blades in that. I often just keep a combination blade on the saw, even though I KNOW that separate crosscut & rip blades do a better job. You remind me to integrate that into my workflow instead of being lazy. " Sheet goods: I almost always have the store cut down the sheet goods, although I usually have the store cut the long way. I can fit that into either the RAV4 or the Prius. One of my dreams is to someday have a vehicle that can carry four people AND 4x8 sheet goods. * Spongebob?????? What's THAT? Is it something like Popeye? (Yes, I'm old.)

Love your video today. You are growing in your editing. I try to keep squares around the shop, but I also keep them by most of my drill press and power saw. Similar to set up blocks, when I work on guitars we use similar blocks for many of the measurements as being precise is crucial with musical implements. Totally agree on router vs. dado. I am selling my dado in our yard sale. Too much work.

Two tips for anybody who hates fractional math. First use millimeters when you can, and buy measuring tools that are in both inches and millimeters. Second get a foot/inch calculator app for your phone.

The first thing I did, when I got my dust collection setup, was get a remote controlled plug for it. It does save a lot of time. Also, how well do those spring loaded corner clamps work? I have the Jonathan Katz Moses apron which has a custom “holster” for a medium size square. Always know where it is, also my tape measure and pencils.
@generationswoodcraft
@generationswoodcraft 2 жыл бұрын
The spring loaded ones work great for 3/4 inch or less for the size I got. For the price you can get 8 and quickly mock up your boxes for measurements or checking the miters.
@HRConsultant_Jeff
@HRConsultant_Jeff 2 жыл бұрын
I did as well. Recently I built a rolling box with sound reduction and dust deputy on top and the remote is even more handy since I sometimes roll the collector nearer to my tool. Reduced noise by 25 decibles or more, more efficient, only uses 2 sq. ft. of space and holds all of my vacuum tools, adapters and hose (but the remote is the best part).
@ironwood1621
@ironwood1621 2 жыл бұрын
@@HRConsultant_Jeff I did build a cart, with wheels, for my vac and dustopper. I only have to move it for my bandsaw & router table. I want to get a longer hose so I don’t have to move it at all.
@HRConsultant_Jeff
@HRConsultant_Jeff 2 жыл бұрын
@@ironwood1621 Yeah it is pricey to find a long hose that is appropriate for dust collection. I set up 2 hoses. They roll up on the cart. The interesting part was figuring out the baffle system in the back to break up the sound waves. I am adding a grounding wire for the pipe from the vacuum to the dust deputy to remove static electricity.

First tip was my favorite by far saves so much time, as for scraps I do keep a lot of my hardwood scraps for splines not softwood ever, but one of the best things I did was install a moxon vise on my bench and its great for small or wide boards depending on how you set it up and leaves no marks if you add some leather strips. BTW my first work bench was a harbor freight work bench "total crap" which I tried to reinforce but ended up scrapping and only keeping the top which I made a new base for but, the top eventually warped because it wasn't thick enough "took 3 years" but it was a great top until then.......the plywood corner clamps look handy have you tried to make them now that you have the template? Love how you share the learning process wish more people did it, gives people a chance to grow with you keep it up please. Same question as Rich Williams how strong are those spring loaded corner clamps?
@generationswoodcraft
@generationswoodcraft 2 жыл бұрын
Thank you. I plan on staying on as long as possible. The clamps work great for 3/4 or less. They make bigger ones but I use them mainly for mock ups to check miters and check my measurements
