It wasn't anything special at all, but it was something new and different that was at least worth trying once...that kept the action in the ring still, which is more than can be said for some match designs we've seen. And to be fair, if you're going to have a cross-over with a different sport, absolutely insist on it happening, taking the biggest guy you've got and pitting him against a sumo wrestler in a sumo match makes a lot more sense than getting in a professional boxer to knock out one of the wrestlers in a boxing match, or bringing in an american footballer for a proper wrestling match.

To be honest, WM 27 gets shitted on way too much. Sure, it wasn't the greatest of all time, but it wasn't as bad as people make it. The opening match with Edge v Del Rio was great, Cody v Rey was good, Orton v Punk was good, The Rock's first Mania appearance in years and also, HHH v Taker in a fantastic match. One of my favorite matches of all time.

Nothing really stood out at all though, the matches were good, but none were great. Nothing amazing happened. Then you have one of the worst mania main events of all-time. And Cole-Lawler being on the card..... AND getting around 15 minutes of in-ring time, while Bryan/Sheamus got shafted for the pre-show lol

I think it was pretty great, but I wouldn't say one of the best. I think the important thing that they leave out is the story behind things. I also liked the storylines at WM9. The matches standing alone weren't that great, but as the culmination of storylines, I liked them. I went back and watched all RAW episodes in order, with PPVs appropriately, and I liked WM9. Then I got on the internet and was surprised everyone else didn't. It's all about the story...

I was at WMX8 and it really was so true. Everyone yelled their heads off the whole Hogan/Rock match and was probably one of the first times in WWE history where the crowd turned a wrestler from heel to face in a single match. The WWE just didn't see it coming at all since Vince was intent to bury Hogan and the NWO for the sake of getting the last laugh on WCW.

john nider no. CM Punk was leader of Nexus. He wasnt a main eventer at that time. But I feel really sad for him (and Y2J) that his WWE Title defense against Y2J at WM 28 was underrated and sidelined. Looking at The Miz now after he's rejuvenated his career, cuts amazing promos, and has become one of the most intriguing and dynamic characters in WWE at the moment, there are plenty of people - myself included - who would love to see him return to the main event scene.

I never minded that Flair/Savage was the match at Mania 8. For one, Flair/Savage feud is one of the best ever, they had amazing arch rival chemistry...and two, the match between them at Mania 8 was one of the best WWF title matches of all time. Way better than Hogan/Flair ever would've been (and I'm 35, grew up watching both men dominate the 80s and as a huge Hulkamaniac...but even I was sick of Hogan by 1992, as a lot of fans then were). Taker/Sid I could never dislike because I finally got to see Taker win the WWF title fair and square. He had been screwed out of the title multiple times in his 5 years as a babyface, and it was great to see him finally win it

Ummm, the main event in Wrestlemania 8 was Savage vs Flair for the title. And it was legendary. It had a HILLARIOUS storyline with Flair photoshopping pics of him getting it on with Miss Elizabeth. The match was even better displaying two of the all time greats in their prime putting on an amazing show. I wouldn't trade that awsomeness for a snoozefest with 3 move Hogan vs Flair in a million years.

Lance Uppercut There's one "main event" and that was the match that was on last. What kind of main event would be the 4th last match on the card to begin with? Like CM Punk said, they can bill the next Wrestlemania as having 4 main events but there's only one. So therefore, you're claiming that Savage/Flair was the main event and it wasn't.

Lessons learned here: If you're going to put someone in the Main Event, don't overshadow them with other people/storylines, as the main event should be THE storyline. Also, stop putting Trips in the goddamn main event. He's solid as a wrestler, but people just don't care about him that much, unless he's heel to a VERY popular baby face, who can single handedly maintain the interest of the crowd (e.g. Benoit, and Bryan).

I just got an idea for a series. The WhatCulture team should start a WWE 2K16 universe mode (just RAW and Smackdown, championships the same as they are now, PPV's can be customized as desired) and each member of the team picks a superstar that they want to be and which brand they want to be on. Then, they play through the mode, either customizing rivalries and stories, or just playing the game with the game making all the rivalries.

Very good honorable mention: WrestleMania 2. There were plans to Hulk Hogan fight Jimmy Snuka in a cage but Hogan refused. Also there were plans for Hulk to wrestle Randy Savage but that fell through when he became IC champ. Hulk's match with King Kong Bundy really wasn't bad but when compared to what could have happened with Snuka or Savage in a cage

+ryan phillips Exactly. Had that match been on an episode of Raw or Smackdown, maybe it would not have been too bad. It would have been perfectly acceptable. This, though, is Wrestlemania - the event of events where they have to top it all up at the end of the night. Instead, it felt like canon fodder. There should have been interference from members like the Usos, or Vince McMahon should have come out, or some big fudging of the match. Something to make it exciting and tip odds against either one back and forth. Not a bad match, but a poor main event, and an anti-climax. Who will win, who cares? That is not something you want at a PPV.

For the longest time I used to think Taker vs Michaels at Mania 25 was the main event since it was considered the best match. It was probably a year before I realized it ended up overshadowing the actul main event. At least mania 26 had those two as the main event. One of the best main events.
