If you end up loving it a new box set will be released this Christmas! The battle of Osgiliath! You could effortlessly recreate the battle of Pelennor fields with both of these box sets and see which army you prefer painting… Mordor, Rohan, or Gondor!
@bigj74242 жыл бұрын
Yes I’ve been following that box set closely. In the end I decided to go with pelennor because I prefer Rohan and the leaders included but I’m excited to see what kind of price osgiliath is sold at. I might very well pick it up when it does come out as long as it’s not much more expensive.
@stuartc92792 жыл бұрын
I also bought that boxset to try and get back into it from when I was a kid, painted a bunch of the minis and now trying to wrap my head around how to play the game now!

I played a small match of 12 goblins vs 12 goblins with my 4 year old. I moved her pieces for her and she loved rolling the dice. She won. Her dice rolling skills are impeccable. Started getting my paints to paint up the batch I have and then I’ll buy some more Moria. Or I’ll buy a different faction to force my friends to play against me. Have to start somewhere.
@kelvingriffiths6017 Жыл бұрын
Moria goblins are a good starter anyway. Easy to convert basic plasric guys into the more elite kinds, plus cheap troop coat gets you a lotta guys and points spare for heavy hitters. Just dont go balrog, 400points of goblins will always be better than one huge paperweight.

Something I'll dispute is Tip #10: Go to tournaments. My brother actively avoids them because there are people who will bring armies that actively break the game. Angmar with spectres shutting down your army or certain legendary legions which effectively say "night fight for thee, but not for me" while raking arrows into him at the full 24" range. In both cases, he couldn't play the scenario, nor could he rush forward and kill things. He just had to sit there and let his opponent do...well...everything for the entire game (both of them with the aforementioned forces). What's more important is to try gauging your gaming community to see how competitive/casual they are and decide if that's the kind of crowd you want to game in. There may be some people who are WAAC, and - if that's your thing - then join in. There are also players who enjoy purely narrative game. Lastly there are some who want a balance between the two: a balanced game between two armies with certain themes that may not be the best in game terms, but gives them the warm fussies without being completely ineffective. Once you figure out who you want to play with, then start playing some games. The key thing to remember on this point is that, whether MESBG or anything else, people are different. They want different things. If the people around you want something different from you, that doesn't make them right and you wrong, or vice versa. Games Workshop no longer has a monopoly on the tabletop wargaming market like they did 10-20 years ago. Find the game and players you want to have fun with and go have fun!

I've been playing LOTR SBG since it first game out in 2001 (just before the first movie). I went to several tournments in that time and did not like them at all. There was always a mixof little kids and grown ups with one particular group (called the Heroes of the Third Age) who would build super tooled armies. One guy came to the battle with three Uruk-hai ballista's and lined them up on the only hill on the field, taking pot shots at my Gondorians as they tried to cross the no man's land. What made things worse was one of his mates wandered over during the game and started bragging about he was wasting his opponent (a kid who was less then 10 years old while he was easily late 30s or early 40s) I asked him if he'd finished his match and when he said no I asked him what he was doing over here then. His response was "chatting with my mate" so I said "chat to your mate later. Go finish your game".
@pickledblowfish61782 жыл бұрын
If you go to a tournament, prepare to fight in a competitive event. Otherwise, look for a narrative event nearby. At least in 40k, clubs love running these. It lets everyone loosened the belt, and play for fun. In a ranked event, you're there to win, period. I've only seen individuals at tournaments that's mentioned in the video, taking subpar units because it's cool and fun. More often then not it's 80-90% power gaming. Which is fine, just be prepared for it.

Could you clarify more at 9:30? Why might the goblin warriors run away? Because the goblin king and troll are engaged in combat and can no longer call stand fast, so the goblin warriors would have to roll their own courage tests unless also charged and in combat for example? May have answered my own question...

Last week the Embracer Group bought the rights for everything related to Lord of the Rings. There is a chance that after current contracts run out that GW won’t be able to keep the license for producing miniatures and games. The Embracer Group got their own games company in Atomic Mass Games. (SpikeyBits published an article on that topic two days ago.) Are you concerned Middle Earth will come to end not because GW wants to end it, but because they simply loose the rights to continue with it?
@ElrohirGuitar2 жыл бұрын
I was wondering the same thing.
@severintw2 жыл бұрын
@@ElrohirGuitar I am quite surprised why none of the (admittedly few) Middle Earth focused KZbinrs has picked this up. There is always this doom and gloom talk when it comes to Games Workshop and their systems but this time it is might not even them making the calls if the game is being continued. If Embracer gives the license to their own studio (Atomic Mass Games) then there is not much they can do about it.
@ConquestCreations2 жыл бұрын
I am not concerned at all firstly GW renewed a 10 year contract in 2017. Secondly even if it stopped getting official support the game and the community is so strong that it will keep going forever.
@severintw2 жыл бұрын
@@ConquestCreations Being strong, wasn’t that kind of what the Fantasy Battle community thought as well? 😆 But if a 10 year contract was signed 2017 we got the game for at least another 5 years. Do you got a source for that by any chance? Me and my friends did not find anything reliable.

The scenarios are fun in all but I like objectives that when strung out achieve a strategic goal like the liberation of HarIthilien, reconquest of Harondor or Umbar. Too bad GW LOTR does not have a better range of models for Arthedain, Cardolan, Rhudaur and Angmar.

The first step is wanting to. The miniatures are beautiful, even though many are 20+years old. The sculpts are scaled and in many cases, have been signed off by the film design teams, actors, the Tolkein estate, and Games Workshop. That's in part why it takes so long for the models to go from concept to tabletop. Start with flat colours. Pick a scheme of 5 or 6 colours. Pick out the main parts (cloaks, armour, skin tones, weapons, mount, and maybe accessories like belts and pouches). A medium brush, small brush, and maybe a fine detail brush. Bang for your buck, Middle Earth is usually one of the best games to start with. You will get better with practice, and I do recommend people watching Sorastro. While he paints different gaming systems, his technique and the way to level up is great (start basic, add washes, add highlights, add terrain, etc). I hope you got into the game, and I hope you are enjoying it. This is one of the best tabletop games ever.
