On the shorter books, I usually pick up poetry audiobooks. They’re usually read by the author and under 2 hours to listen!

My list for getting out of a slump is all of yours plus a few more. I will add listening to an audiobook or assistive reader while doing other activities/hobbies like putting together a puzzle or coloring. Most of the time I add a buffer/fluffy book between books in a series. That book usually has 150-300 pages and is a standalone. I do this all the time, whether I am in a slump or not. My favorite thing to do, though, is to switch up my reading location. I read every day from a few minutes to hours upon hours. I am up to my 150th book of 2024, so every little bit helps!

Omg! I, too, can only listen to instrumentals while I read! I don’t know how people can listen to music with words and focus on reading at the same time!

I recently read Graveyard Shift and I don’t think the synopsis is a great introduction to the story. Also, it’s definitely a standalone! ML Rio just likes ensemble casts. By the time I finished the book I felt like it had more lit fic aspects than I thought it would (kind of like if we were villains) and it had be analyzing it like I was back in my English major.
