Thanks for the tips! I'm running free open table sessions in Montreal to introduce more people to DCC

Calling on people like a teacher sounds scary but I always appreciate being asked what I want to do because it gets me engaged again and the gears turning about my options. Not everyone is conscience of holding the spotlight but my goal in running any rpg is always just to get the group talking to each other and working together

Absolutely.

Great tips. Nothing worse than one person dominating a game. Or a DM that does all the talking. Sounds great.

Absolutely. And some folks don't mean to hog the spotlight. Some just see silence as an opportunity for themselves to fill it.

I plan to start and open table soon and it’s good to hear some things I had in mind you agree with. You also have inspired me to give out the “mvp” awards so to speak for different things. Love it! Keep up the good work!!!

In my circles, lots of people use "dnd" to mean fantasy rpg.
@breakerpressgames Жыл бұрын
Exactly. One of the things I notice a lot on DCC and OSE forums is this fear and frustration that 5E players will reject their overtures to play something other than 5E. But for most casual players, they want to roll d20s, kill monsters, and eat snacks because that's "DnD". The system beyond that isn't important.

@@breakerpressgames It exists. I've run into it, but more so with people I've been playing with a long time then casuals or people off the street.
@breakerpressgames Жыл бұрын
@Cole _ I know it exists. I went through phases in the 90s and 00s where I only cared about Greyhawk as a setting, or GW games because I was a super-fan with heavy investment. That's why I focused on casuals. They aren't invested in a system. They just want to have a good time.

@@breakerpressgames I should add that I don't blame them, I stick to a singular system unless I'm running one-offs. I just don't have the time and I suspect most people don't. The open table is a nice low pressure way that even I'd be willing to drop in once or twice across systems.

Has this process changed a year in? I’m trying to think of ways to invite people in a sparsely populated area. I over invited for my first session and have received no replies. Which is fine. Just wondered. Thanks!

I'll give it a re-listen today to see if I'd change anything. I was about to record a 1.5 year reflection anyhow. Its normal to not get replies. Its annoying, but normal. I just sent out my invites for this Wednesday at the start of the weekend and 1 person has responded thus far. It being a month away for you still, you might gently check in with folks around May 31 to see if you have any definites for that session.

@@breakerpressgames I got my 10th person to invite yesterday. We will see how many show in about a week when I send out the invites.
