Tifa's chi and triangle combo attacks are not just for stagger, they deal stupid amounts of damage too, especially when using the starshower ability right before unleashing the combo for an attack boost.

Spells have different properties _besides_ their element. Fire is a fast projectile that explodes upon impact. Blizzard is a projectile that turns into an ice block that explodes about a second *after* impact, so be careful when you use it so enemies don't evade the blast. Thunder strikes from above and never misses. Aero creates a small "mine" of wind wherever the enemy is, which bursts after about a second. Again, try to use it when enemies are occupied. The -ra and -ga versions of each spell increase the area of effect as well as the damage, but also take longer to cast. This isn't like most FF games where higher level spells simply replace their lower level counterparts; it's situational. Because of their fast casting times, the lower level spells are often more useful for exploiting enemy weaknesses and building up stagger, while the higher level spells are what you want to unleash when an enemy is stunned or staggered.

Yes! It is amazing how they made every graduation of spell have its own use rather than just "Stop using Fire to use Firaga." I'm mesmerized to how the team made sure you use everything at your disposal rather than "discarding" old ones. Much like they did the same with the weapon upgrades, meaning you can essentially play the whole game with the Buster Sword if you so want.

Basically this game utilizes the stagger system of FF13....where big magic is definitely more useful when the foe is already staggered. A lot of monsters are susceptible to slow/stop...so that is also another good way to get off the big spells. I want to add one last thing- folks, do not underestimate bio...it is perhaps the best spell, though it is non elemental, lots of enemies are susceptible to poison and that damage overtime really adds up.

jabberwagon Everything you said was unnecessary. Don’t go out of your way worried about how each spell behaves. you just cast slow or stop... and then absolutely cast a required element regardless of how it behaves. Using proper elements and physical/special attacks are vital to staggering and finishing enemies.

Here's a small list of things I found out while playing. Spells, abilities and Limit Breaks can not only be interrupted but you can also die in the middle of using them, thus wasting the MP, ATB charge or meter. Not all enemies will sit still, sometimes it's better to just put Elemental Materia on a weapon and go nuts with the combos. Braver NEVER stops being useful. It's able to chunk a good portion of most of the bosses and tougher enemies in later parts of the game. You can get a second Elemental Materia for doing side quests. Despite this, you can also MISS this item because it's sitting on the ground and hard to see. The pull up mini game is a chore and a half, but learn the timing and stop thinking "I need to beat this guy" instead try "I need to get 45" since the AI never seems to go above 44 pull ups. If you really need to use items, do it. Near the end I had well over 90k Gil and all of my items (except Elixers) were in the 80's and the shops will just keep selling more at discount price. I know this doesn't apply to Hard difficulty, but before then it helps. Blocking is the best skill to know for end game, boost up the materia that makes your block stronger. You'll thank yourself later. In terms of spells that I've cast, I found that the spell I used most frequently was Firaga with Thundaga coming up not that often but still used against robots. If I ran into flyers, I generally just used Barret. Never used Blizzaga because enemies don't stay still for the ice to explode. Summons like Ifrit generally only come out during boss fights. You don't need Curaga unless you make a tank like I did. At the end game, Cloud and co. had around 4000 HP which Cura (cast by anyone) would fully heal them. Aerith casting Heal did roughly the same amount with Barret being the only one needing Curaga thanks to Big Bertha and HP Up putting him near 8000 HP. Although Aerith casting Cura on him healed for around 6500. On that note, the Magnify materia that lets you cast one spell on multiple targets makes your spell weaker. I figured this was common sense but I've met a lot of people who were unaware of this fact. The Item Boost materia is pretty useful late game if you don't have everyone with a cure and revive materia. A Mega Potion normally heals for 1500, but with the Item Boost, it was healing for 2100. Swap characters frequently so the AI keeps moving around. It's cheesy but it does help a bit. All enemies, and especially the bosses, have a pattern to their attacks. Some bosses won't even allow you to hit them at all unless you know what you're doing. Going into Hard Mode? MP Up is going to be key for your party since you can't use items. HP up is just generally useful for everyone. Magic Up is a great stat booster as well if you're going the mage route. All of your weapons can change how you play the character. Beyond learning the skills on them and going back to what you want to use, all of them have different stats. If you want pure melee DPS, use Hardedge or the Nail Bat. If you wanna be a more mage type, use Twin Stinger or the Mytrhil Saber. Want to be balanced in everything? You can't go wrong with the Buster Sword. Iron Blade is for being tankier and support mage. For the rest? I don't know. Tifa's iron gauntlets give her the best damage and Barrets Big Bertha gives him the most health and defenses. I specifically built those two that way to compliment my own playstyle.

while its true that magnify makes your spell cast on other characters weaker you yourself get the full healing effect and the magnify Materia is still very useful as heling once with it saves a lot of mp. also some of the mp can be gained back by using the Healing Carcanet accessory. if you need an extra heal you can cast arises arcane ward than do heling with magnify.

You can cut Tifa's animation for Divekick in half and turn it into a 2 hit combo for way more damage. During the start up animation of Divekick, she jumps in the air, then dives down.. takes a while. Use Whirling Uppercut instead, at the apex of the move, select Dive Kick from the command list and she will just dive down instead of stopping, then starting Dive Kick from the start.

Tifa triangle cancel. Any time you use one of Tifa's triangle attacks, use dive kick right after it hits and cancels out her bounce back and immediately hits the dive kick. Mapping it to L1+triangle makes it really easy to pull off.

Give the Parry Materia to Tifa, It allows you to hold block at all times without sacrificing speed which works well with the Steadfast Block Materia, cancel out of animations to attack faster, and generally slide around the battle field like a fiend.

7:13 This is a great tip, and one of the more important ones. There are comments mentioning that you can change the Lock-On Switching from Direction Input to D-Pad. That would free up your Right Thumbstick to pan the camera while locked on. However, it doesn't hurt to often pause and change targets just to look around -- prevent tunnel vision when there are multiple enemies.

So many useful tips here. What can I add, there are only two elemental materia in the whole game and 1 magnify regardless of redoing the chapters. Thing is there is an enemy skill that the cerulean drake can teach you- that basically shields you with an ice shroud that does minimal damage to enemies that come close to you. The real cool thing with that skill is that it gives all your physical attacks the ice element...so it is a 3rd elemental of sorts but only for ice. Honestly, I think Barret is better at staggering than Tifa when not considering exploiting elemental weaknesses...those bullets work so well on anything that is machines and ghost, and overcharge, his uppercut move to quickly build back overcharge is a great combination. Steelskin also protects Barret from interruption...very useful.

Algid Aura is a weird one, because it appears to get boosted by whatever elemental combo you have on your weapon too. It's also strengthened by magic buffs, including Magic Up materia. Pair Enemy Skill with HP Absorb and you'll have a hard time losing! I plan on doing a materia combo video too at some point, and that enemy skill in particular has the most utility for sure!

Something I really learned in my most recent playthrough - the Time materia is super underrated. Casting haste on your party makes their ATB gauges fill up way faster, which allows for quickly overpowering enemies. Pair it with Magnify, and cast it as soon as the fight starts, and you can get a massive early advantage in every fight.

Be paranoid about saving, for the most part this game is great at its auto saves but there is one game braking bug towards the end of the game, when in a vent you can look down and see what random nobody’s are talking about problem is the circle button to back out of this view dosnt always work meaning you have to quit to the menu, the auto save is close by only costing you somthing like 5 minutes but it’s just before a point you can grind at and I have heard of some people not saving after they spent hours leveling up then hit this bug and well there goes the 6 hours of leveling they did, so be like me and be paranoid about saving. When you cast stop on a mob that’s staggered will also stop it’s stagger bar from ticking down giving you up to ten seconds more stagger to work with. Deadly dodge + Hp absorb actually works, I personally thought that HP absorb would need a green materia but apparently not.

I got a tip for for FF7 remake players Triple slash almost everything with cloud and most battles will become alot easier lol. Dont use it on flying enemies though, or anything NOT on the ground, cause then it will miss^^. Surely one of clouds best attacks he can learn early on into the late parts of the game for smashing through multiple enemies in seconds! Regen (if available to you from the healing materia at rank 3) at every hard battle, it will save alot of healing through most battles, and the regen scales with how much hp your character has! (about 1% of your health back every second/few seconds, so for example, My barret has 7k health, so it regens by about 70 a sec or so!)
@TheRealEraser
@TheRealEraser 4 жыл бұрын
i would say a better use of magnify is barrier then manaward and at late game manawall. 50% damage reduction from attacks is better than small heals via regen.
@bmassey-
@bmassey- 4 жыл бұрын
I second magnify with manawall for hard mode. I would replace all healing with prayer and maybe 1 or 2 chakra depending on set up also. The accessory that starts each battle with limit break max (gotterdammerung), and the materia that allows you to use a limit break called refocus are pretty big deals for hard mode as well. Every character should have revive as well, imo... since the AI is pretty bad and get themselves killed. The character you had revive on dedicated to may die unexpectedly.

Another tip if you plan on doing a Hard play through. Level up all you materia to the max if you can post game via chapter 14. Farm the collapsed train area between sector 5 and sector 6 to get the most AP the fastest. Once you get all the materia leveled up, skip to chapter 17 and do the battle simulator until you get the Gotterdammerung! It may take sometime but it will make your hard play through much easier! Hard play through is very tough! Enemies do a shit ton of damage and benches no longer fill you AP so you have to be very careful using magic. It only refills after you’re done with the chapter.

Tifa combat is so deep. You can cancel out of her basic combo into most of her abilities and its usually always worth to keep her at max lvl in chi until you stagger an enemy. Like if a basic combo move (or other move) puts her in the air u can cancel directly into Dive Kick in the air and so on. By far the most fun to activly play imo. Tip is to asign her moves to quick-buttons thou. Flow of combat is so nice to her then

Combine Barret's lifesaver ability with Chakra and prayer using the tricks you mentioned to get barret fast ATB. Add haste and barrier on hard fights and barret becomes basically a tank and healer in one. This has helped me a lot conserving MP for offensive spells instead of spending it on cure's.
@mik2dae143

Tifa is OP if you use her right. Spam the regular attack until you get enough ATB to level up your unbridled strength. Always get her unbridled strength to level 3, it only takes a few seconds. Then unleash all her triangle attacks until she does her uppercut, while she’s in mid air, use divekick to complete the combo. This is the most OP combo in the game. Whatever is in front of you will lay down! Tifa is incredible! Especially once you start adding materia to further make her gain ATB even quicker! She does the most damage out of the group 100%

Steadfast Guard materia is really nice to have on all your characters during the hardcore runs. The non-player used fighters play more defensive then offensive. This materia will cut down on a nice amount of dmg while blocking, and you'll gain a nice amount of ATB.

Cloud does well against fleshy enemies like dogs and humans as well as most robots. You can stagger them fast with him as well. If they become pressured, use your high staggering abilities. Clouds best staggering ability is focused thrust. Rita’s are True Strike and he two chi specials. Just have ATB for when you see pressured happen, especially on bosses.

@BingBangPoe
@BingBangPoe 4 жыл бұрын
3:31 Actually, AI controlled characters will never use their ATB on their own. Also, if I may add a tip on my own for Barret: always start the fight with Barret as the controlled character and use Overacharge ASAP. He'll always start with it at full charge, so just pump that shit and switch to another character. As for Tifa: she can actually instantly use Dive Kick while she is airborne, whether it is from using aerial attacks or after using Whirling Uppercut. Doing so will cause her to instantly dive at her opponents instead of winding up. Also, stagger goes above 200% and there is no apparent cap; there is even an Trophy for getting the stagger bonus to 300% (which can be easily done at the Fat Chocobo VR Fight by spamming True Strike when he is staggered, which gives a whooping 30% bonus to stagger). Now, for some tips about Hard Mode: - I'd recommend having a pair of Deadly Dodge + HP Absorption Materias (both maxed) for Cloud and Tifa. While the HP regained won't be much, it does help and reduces your need to use magic to heal, since you can't use items and benchs don't recover MP. - Equip Steadfast Block Materia on EVERYONE. This further reduces damage when blocking and gives you a lot of ATB when you block attacks. ATB becomes invaluable in Hard Mode. - Equip ATB Stagger Materia on EVERYONE. This one gives a lot of ATB when you inflict stagger to enemies. - Have at least on character with a maxed Prayer Materia (I'd say Barret). When maxed it can heal around 5.000, and it is not affected by the magic attribute since it is a command materia. Having so can save a lot of MP in normal battles, so you can go to boss fights with full MP. - Elemental Materia is your best friend. You can get 2 Elemental Materias in the game. Make sure to get them maxed (it takes forever, though) before starting Hard Mode, and link them with magic materia based on the enemies you'll fight in the chapter (i.e. link it with Fire Materia at Chapter 1 since most enemies here are human and weak to fire, then swap to Lightning Materia before the Scorpion Sentinel since it is weak to lightning). Additionally, at max level Elemental Materia can absorb damage, so if you think ahead, some bosses will be able to heal you with their attacks. - Smash all the boxes. Apparently in Hard Mode the Mako Shards recover more HP than in normal mode. - Make Cloud the designated healer. Since Aerith will only join at halfway through the game won't be a permanent character, you'll need to have someone to do the healing. While Mythril Saber is Cloud's best weapon for magic, I recommend sticking with Twin Stinger. Not only is has a balance between attack and magic, but also has upgrades that decrease the cost of healing magic. In addition, equip him with the Healing Carcanet to increase the effectiveness of healing spells. - Make Barret the designated tank. His whole kit is already built around mitigating damage and taking damage for his allies. Equip him with Big Bertha (has the most upgrades on Defense and bonus HP), Provoke Materia and Barrier Materia. In boss battles always have him to use Steelskin, Lifesaver and Barrier/Manawall/Manaward (depending on the situation) on himself. This will make him absurdly resilient. Plus, at level 50, a single maxed HP Plus Materia puts him close to 9999 HP. - Maximize Aerith's magic bulk. This can be easily done by equipping her with the Mythril Staff, which has the most Magic Bonus upgrades, as well the Platinum Earrings and as many Magic Plus Materias you can (I think there are only 2 in the game, if I'm not wrong). With this setup her magic can get over 400, it is insane.

The one thing I'd add is regarding target lock: not only can you switch targets while the command menu is up, you can also toggle target lock on or off, and use the touchpad info function as well. I almost always bring up the command menu whenever I'm handling any sort of targetting situation, so I don't have to feel rushed to pick a target and get it locked.

Best farming spot after you beat the game is ch. 16 when you infiltrate shinra hq. Equip Mythril sword for high magic damage and any other magic buffing gear. Firaga + magnify in one linked slot and firaga + mp absorb in another linked slot. You can run through super fast and then reset.

Some more helpful tips: The Parry Materia is really stupidly misnamed. A more accurate name would be "Improved Dodge." It lets you do a special dodge by holding down block that activates faster, has less recovery, cancels some animations, does damage, and has block frames (still no I frames though). In addition, each character has a unique parry animation, and some have special PROPERTIES. Cloud's Parry allows you to dodge while in Punisher mode without canceling it back into Operator, making him much more versatile in that mode. Tifa's Parry is a slide that goes so far, so fast, that it basically makes her the most mobile character in the game. Using Parry, she can actually avoid a lot of homing moves that other characters are basically guaranteed to get hit by. Also, don't sleep on Cloud's Counterstance. You get it late in the game, but it's incredibly helpful. It activates almost instantly even if you're attacking, does WAY more damage than Cloud's standard Punisher counter, and, perhaps most importantly, activates with *any* kind of damage. The Punisher counter only triggers with physical attacks, but Counterstance will activate with physical, magic, firearms, etc. There are a lot of really damaging moves that Cloud can tank via Counterstance; even moves that are otherwise unblockable.

First strike + atb assist on tifa. As quickly as possible double strength and give the rest of your team a bar each. If you have tifa + aerith, have aeith use ATB ward during boss fights and have tifa roll into the ward for double strength.

Cloud's Punisher has a block, but it is specific to melee only, which will trigger a counter. Tifa, you should note she builds stagger damage with her Chi attacks. Rise and Fall as well as Uppercut both are 5% per hit, but Rise and Fall has multiple hits. Omnistrike is either 20 or 25% though. Staying in the 3rd level is good for normal combat, enhance damage and combo length, also alter some skills. When the enemy is staggered you should make your priority to be executing not only RIse and Fall, to put you back down to Chi 2, but immediately do Omnistrike. Omnistrike is much faster than Rise and Fall, meaning you can actually build the stagger damage faster through it. Most enemies though, after you use Omni, you want to rush in to get your actual damage skills off from all your characters, rather than spamming Rise and Fall. Just pay attention to enemy stagger gauge consumption to see what you should be doing though. Tips for Barrett, he's probably the most versatile character, don't be afraid to have an HP Up and Steadfast Guard on him and try out Refocus for some of the tougher fights. Now, your goal is going to be to stay using him as much as possible, don't switch unless absolutely necessary. Regen and Barrier will help survivability, anyone can cast those via materia, and I believe Barrett's Lifesaver also gives him additional regen. Now, your Limit should build fairly well if you're not fighting trash enemies like wererats, Hedgehog Pies, or something. Basic tip, most enemies hit you then have a cool down period before they attack again, often times it is relatively short, but this means if they hit you and you dodge/block, you often times have time to unload a full round into them with Barrett's gun. If you have under 2/3 ATB filled, follow up with Overcharge, then any of his Offensive Skills since you should be at 2 ATB. During the reloading animation of Barrett's attacks, make sure to do the charging action to build up Overcharge again. If you're not using a gun that specializes in magic, this should be a high burst combo. Since Barrett's skills scale with ATB gauge as well, having a third ATB via Refocus should be a noticeable difference. The tanky stuff/buffs applied to him will allow you to face tank one or two enemies during the combo if you're at near full health, which also aids in building your Limit of course. After your first playthrough, this may not be as viable however.

There is really only one boss worth stealing from. Everything else is not super important. Also, if you are going to steal, you don't need luck up. Just do it when they're staggered. Basically guarantees a successful steal.

Blue, yellow and purple materia are limited when found in the world. For example the Pedometer Materia that turns into the AP UP materia, can not be reacquired over and over in chapter 14, neither can the elemental materia. These will turn into Green Materia typically, and if it can be found in the world multiple times, it can also be bought from a materia vendor so there's not really a point to playing to find them when you're already beating the game and have gil out the wazoo

MOOGLE MEDALS GATHERING MADE EASY We all know the crates have a random drop, now you can save before smashing every set and reload until you get them or ... Save some time here : In chapter 6 while turning off the sun lamps there's a catwalk that moves both vertical and horizontal. Move it all the way up and then to the right. Knock off the crates and move it back to the left of where they were placed. Smash crates save and reload then repeat. There's a 95-98% chance you'll get a Moogle Medal as well as lots of goodies and a chance to get 2 Medals plus goodies. Spend some time here before moving on and the exchange later will be simple.

I'll take it you haven't played the original and just say there are 2 more main characters and 2 that you were able to unlock in the original. That's aside from Red XIII who will be playable in the next game I'm sure. Then there is also a character very important to the story that they may or may not make playable during his part. So yes there will definitely be more characters to play with.
@Loki087
@Loki087 4 жыл бұрын
It's only these 4, square enix decided not to let red XIII be playable because he's introduced late and they felt like it would be doing the character a disservice acquiring him late in the game. For the next installments there should be plenty more playable characters.

Learn to mix it up. Yes, it's great to use the character you like the most and use their combos, but trust me, it's better if you like your whole party, gear it up to what you want and learn to go back and forth between them to: Charge their ATB bars faster, control what they'll do, put them out of danger (sometimes the AI won't make them dodge or move out of harm's way). That way you can make your fights easier and faster with all your characters working in unison instead of hoping the AI will know what you want it to do.

I disagree that stocking ATB is better than using it. First Strike + Disorder + Triple Slash will clear groups of enemies at once. It's only important to sit on ATB is during fights like Hell House when you have to wait for opportunities to exploit weaknesses. Hell House, Ghoul and Eligor are the only fights where you have to save ATB for specific times. Once you understand the technical advantages that abilities like Unbridled Strength, Tempest, Overcharge, Disorder and the Focused abilities do, it isn't even that important to save ATB for the stagger. Judging by the combat in your videos you don't seem to understand how some of the battle mechanics work. I'd say that's a pretty important thing to get right when you're making tutorial videos.
