Watching Rankin and Bass Christmas specials is a great memory of my childhood, and it made the Christmas season that much more exiting. These guys made some of the best Christmas specials that ever existed, and they will never be topped. To be fair, they did have a stinker or two in there, such as Pinochio's Christmas, but I'm sure there are people who love that one as much as I love the Rudolph special , or the Snow and Heat Miser from the Year Without Santa Claus.

Charlie BrownChristmas IS definitely my fav! BUT. Rudolph is a very close second!! As a young child, 8 years old, I took my brothers audio cassette recorder ( without asking him! Yikes! ) and audio recorded the entire Rudolph show! Later I listened to the audio over and over for years! That’s why I KNOW about scenes bring added and/or cut! Today I watch it as often as it is shown! Ps- I till don’t like the new ending when Yukon throws his pick in the air and “ tastes” peppermint and Rudolph’s family all bragging about him. I still LOVE the original ending after Santa flies away from “ Misfit Island” and Santa calls out “ Merry Christmas. Merr-rry Christmas then “ Sam” closes the story with singing, “ Have a Holly Jolly Christmas” THAT IS MY FAVORITE ENDING!! Merry Christmas to you too!

These films with stop motion animation are WARMER and have a human touch because an actual person has to physically move the puppets and the models to make it happen. These modern CGI cartoons leave me COLD with its lifeless animation.
@FunFactFilms5 жыл бұрын
Ya, I was paying closer attention to the traces of human touch this last time after researching the movie. I like Bumble for that reason because you can see the where fingers have touched his fur.
@josephbennett34825 жыл бұрын
Always remember that although CGI is done by computer it still takes either one or multiple people to sit for hours and make the animations but before hand a computer art design team has to make each and every thing that is in the animated show or movie.
@charleskuckel31735 жыл бұрын
@@josephbennett3482 AGREED! However, the computer does the "Lions Share" of the work. The resulting images and motion are COLD to me. It's JUST like when I compare CGI to SuperMarionation.

I've heard about how the voices for "Rudolph The Red-nosed Reindeer" were recorded in Canada. Actually, it was Tim Burton who were inspired for The Nightmare Before Christmas, as he saw the Christmas Specials as a kid like Rudolph and The Grinch, during the 80's when he saw still working for Disney (after having done animations for The Fox and The Hound and The Black Cauldron and while doing short films Vincent and Frankenweeine, the later became a full motion stop-motion film) he made the poem which became the bases for the movie. In it just like the movie, a fog came in on Christmas Eve which made Jack almost give up as he knew the reindeer couldn't see through it but he notices his dog Zero has a shiny nose and says "Zero with your nose so bright, won't you guide my sleigh tonight?". Even if the line isn't used in the film, the scenario and concept was.

there is a reason for only 7 reindeers. folks were calling Rudolph the 9th reindeer and the makers of Rudolph did not want him to have that title, so they only agreed to make the film if Rudolph became the seventh reindeer eliminating two reindeers. They wanted Rudolph to be known as Rudolph the red nosed reindeer and not the ninth reindeer.

Cgi animation is made on computers, by animators who sit on chairs nearly all day. Disney is a pretty good example, as well as DreamWorks and Sony Pictures Animation. To me, cgi is both soulful and soulless.
@FunFactFilms5 жыл бұрын
Nice thought Slapstick. I agree that there is visible human effort in CGI. It looks sleeker but animators are magicians in my book because of the amazing things they can put up on screen.

Interesting trivia: When Yukon Cornelius throws his pick axe into the ground and takes it out and licks it, he's checking neither for gold nor silver. The original concept for the special stated that Yukon was in fact searching for the elusive peppermint mine, which he eventually finds. This scene has since been restored starting with the 1998 home video VHS release. My favorite, must watch Christmas movies are ‘A Muppet Christmas Carol’, ‘Ernest Saves Christmas’, and ‘A Christmas Story’.

You didn't talk about how the DVD has errors. It has 2 added scenes, one being the extended version of we are Santa's elves. t was cut out of the special for years because it was too long. Then for some reason it was put back in in 1998. There was also a scene added when it was remastered called the peppermint mine, this scene makes no sense whatsoever. In 1965 it was cut out, due to the letters you were talking about because people were angry. They replaced that scene with the one with Santa picking up the misfit toys. So that's why those scenes should be cut out and a new DVD/Blu-ray should be released.

This was in 1977. What I didn't know (I was only 5, my brother 3) was that our mother had been a in terrible auto accident where she got hit by a train, and that she was on life support some time in the month of December. Our "stepfather" would never get to marry her, and he would off to the ARMY (and then later marry and have children of his own), while my brother and I were put up for foster care.
