The audio came through great Kevin. Only hear birds chirping in the background so far. I'm using tulle fabric to protect produce from pests. Greenhouse in hot sun can be too hot even in fall. Please do an updated program on pest prevention in future . I grew marigolds from seed started in March and they are just blooming now. Unlike previous years my nasturteums have no aphids...none of my garden does while those are usually gross black aphid magnets.

Please be safe! I have family in LA County with some being FD. May He watch over you all and keep you safe 🙏🏻❤️ I was able to harvest some broccoli earlier this season (7a) but decided to leave them in the planters. A few weeks ago I planted bush beans around the broccoli and holy moly! They LOVE each other! Making notes this year and this buddy duo is on the list for next year. For carrots I direct sowed in a planter with peas, nasturtiums and some herbs. They all seem happy together. And my goodness. This year was the first time growing peas (sugar snap and snow) and I may need a 12 step program 🤤 I’ll be stocking up on seeds for 2021. Just this evening as soon as I came home from work, I pulled the peas I have in planters with some cukes by the stairs and I ate them all before even opening the front door. And this is someone who NEVER had peas like this before this year. 🤷🏻♀️😂 Crack peas. Yup. I’ll be trying to figure a way to grow them inside over there winter under my grow lights. I may go thru a withdrawal 😩 Am I dwelling on the peas too much?.....

We just had 6" of snow and freezing temps yesterday and will have an even colder night tonight! Spent about 3 or 4 hours creating tripods over plants and covering them and laying down tarps, etc to try to save as much as we could of our veggie garden! Smoke and ash have been covering us too, but not as badly as where you are. Have planted some beans and more lettuce, and hope to get some produce out of them in October or late September. The challenges of gardening in Colorado are always fun and enjoy what we do! Hope the fires get under control in Cali soon! Cheers Kevin!

Covering sown carrot seeds with a board works a treat. keeps moisture in, protects the soil from disturbance, etc. Just check a couple times a day for the very first signs of life, and take it off once you do. I usually transition to draping shade cloth after I see sprouts to continue helping the soil stay moist.

Love turnips! Growing up in Ireland, swede (rutabaga) is way more common than turnip and it's even commonly called a turnip there. My mother always cooked swede mashed up with carrot and parsnip. The first time I had an actual real turnip (they call them white turnips there to distinguish them from swedes, which are much bigger and have yellow flesh) I thought it was so delicious...

Thanks for sharing these tips. My summer veggies were ravaged by squirrels, so I need fall crop redemption. Funny, the veggie I hated as a kid that my mom forced on me was actually bok choi! I've since had delicious bok choi dishes with improved texture. My parents tried growing them and we've tended to pick them while young and put them in salads or last min fixings for soups.

Oh that story about being a kid and not eating stuff, while sitting there for an hour or two. I know that too well, I've been a picky eater all my life lol. Though through gardening I learned to appreciate a lot of the vegetables, I ate broccoli before but now I love it (slightly roasted with a nice tomato cream sauce, ughh so good). Though I still don't like the zucchinis I grew this year, but maybe that'll change in the future too... Lol.

Also, we love everything the beet plant provides us with! The tops are delicious, and there are many ways to enjoy the root bulb. (Boiled, sautéed, in soup, etc... the greens are better than spinach, IMHO! And I like spinach! I'm just about to harvest my (experimental) container of beets. I also have an experimental container beside the beets, of parsnip. Due to the soil conditions here, I have had to resort to container gardening. Hope my (experimental) harvest goes well! On to gardening, our weather in Albuquerque went from. 99 on Monday to 46 last night & today with winds in some places 75 mph. I covered my plants w/intention to uncover during the day but it never warmed tomorrow 62.
