I love this approach. Not every watch needs to be owned, but there's something about getting a moment with some models in person that can be genuinely enlightening. For years, I wondered what the big deal was with Daytonas. Then I got to try one on and it all immediately made sense. The balance on-wrist is perfect, and the case and bracelet design fit a wrist like nothing else I've ever worn. Despite the weight, it seems to almost disappear whenever you're not looking straight at it. Is that quality worth five-figures? (Un)fortunately that's a question I'll never have to answer.

Love my speedy. Get more beautiful everyday ;). I would add a JLC on your list (reverso) or Cartier. Of the one you present here: Vacheron is the most beautiful one. Such a classic. Pure elegance.
@Slaphitter2 жыл бұрын
Took me a few years in the hobby before getting a Speedy. 6 months ago I bought a new (the latest version) sapphire sandwich on the bracelet. Als bought the fabric strap and deployant while I was at the boutique. I am not merely “experiencing” it. It has become my daily driver. My other watches are getting less and less wrist time. All summer, I rotated different natos. Once fall got here, it’s back on the bracelet. It really ticks so many boxes. Heritage, timeless and gorgeous design, sporty and dressy at the same time (depending on the bracelet or strap), and very well made. I’m smitten.

This is SUCH a great video on many levels. But most of all the script. Really interesting and amusing commentary, perfectly delivered over lovely watch photography. The choices themselves will always be subjective But the rationale is sound, and (fwiw) agree with the majority of them. Great job.

My suggested 10 watches that a watch enthusiast should experience would lean a lot on the appreciation of movements and the historical context. Bonus: None of them are current hyped watches (no AP Royal Oak, no PP Nautilus, no Rolexes, etc.) 1. A. Lange & Sohne Datograph - the chronograph movement and how this in-house movement embarrassed the top Swiss manufacturers that forced them to come up with their own chronograph movements. 2. Blancpain Fifty Fathoms Automatique - the OG of dive watches and with a high horology movement with 120 hours power reserve while running at 28,8000 bph as well. 3. Breguet Classique Complications Ref 5317 - showing the tourbillon (first patented by the founder), Breguet balance spring and overcoil, automatic winding, guilloche dial that is the calling card of Breguet pocket watches, and fine hand-engraving on the movement that can be seen from the sapphire-covered back. 4. Breitling Navitimer Ref 806 - the pilot's chronograph watch that comes with a slide rule bezel/dial. Essential tool of pilots before electronic calculators were available. 5. Casio F-91W - cheap digital quartz watch that provides one of the best value for money propositions in the watch world. 6. Credor Eichi II - dress watch par excellence, Spring Drive movement, fully hand-painted porcelain dial, hand-finished movement, and art in the design of the movement 7. Jaegar-LeCoultre Reverso Duoface - The original Reverso Monoface is effectively one of the first sports wristwatch when it was created. The duoface shows how to maximise the flipside as well by having it show a second watch face and dial. 8. Omega Speedmaster Professional Moonwatch Calibre 321 - The reason this watch is here is the Lemania 2310 that Omega rechristened as Calibre 321. The Lemania 2310 calibre is the choice chronograph workhorse (and also showhorse when it is highly finished) of the top Swiss watch houses, including Patek Philippe and Vacheron Constantin. The fact that it was used in the Moonwatch that made it to the moon is a bonus. 9. Vacheron Constantin Patrimony Minute Repeater - one of the slimmest, if not the slimmest, minute repeater movement. This is as good as any as they come. Plus, fine example of high quality finishing. 10. Zenith El Primero Chronomaster A386 - one of the first automatic chronograph movements, high-beat, and celebrated. And comes with a fascinating history of survival till to-date.
@tejasvaze5659 Жыл бұрын
Excellent list! For the spot of the cheap digital quartz, instead of the F-91W, I'd suggest the G-5600UE - it comes with a ton of additional features at only a small increase in price, most notably being solar powered. Not to mention it brings with it the timeless heritage of the G-Shock square

Interesting choosing the Carrera over the Monaco. I’m surprised to see a Heuer in here at all, pleasantly, but the Monaco is the star of Heuer’s catalog, past and present, in my eyes. Also, I don’t begrudge the Panerai for being simple; I do, however, feel slightly insulted at a $5,200 price tag for a watch with no seconds hand (and charging $500 to get one). I’ve handled and tried on many Panerai watches and while they’re undoubtedly well made, their charms are simply lost on me. No offense to the Paneristi out there, everyone’s different, but they’re just not for me at their current sizing and pricing.

Beautiful video! The only obvious omissions are, in my view, the AP Royal Oak, JLC Reverso, Cartier Tank, Breguet Classique, Zenith Chronomaster and Bvlgari Octo Finissimo. Could have been the "16 Watches Every Enthusiast Must Experience" video. 😁 I'm sure you could have stretched it to 20 watches if you wanted to. Also, I think it's much more important to experience the Submariner than the OP if you're talking Rolex. And I'm very glad you included a Panerai, but I would have selected a Radiomir (even though that Luminor is awesome!). Oh, and the Nautilus blows. Some PP Grand Complication (perpetual calendar?) would have been a better choice, I think. All in all though, I really enjoyed this video! Thanks!!!
