Ibnu Thaimiya ( Rahimahullah ) says 10 ways in his Majmu al Fatawa "how a believer can get the forgiveness from Allah for the sins he committed " 1. Say "Astagfirullah." استغفر الله 2. Do thawba and repent to Allah : because the one who repent for his sin just like the one who never committed the sin. 3. Followup that sin with good deeds. 4. When your righteous brothers and sisters from the believers make dua that Allah almighty forgives your sins whether you dead or alive Allah will save from your sins. 5. When a righteous believer gift you the rewards of some of their good deeds. 6. When Prophet Muhammad Make shafa ( intercedes ) in the day of judgement. 7. When Allah test you with difficulties. 8. When Allah makes things difficult for a person in the grave. 9. When a person tested by Allah during the difficulties and horrors of day of judgement. 10. When Allah Ar- Rahman, Ar Raheem have mercy upon you.

How a believer can protect self from repercussions of a sin 1- engage in istighfar (asking Allah for forgiveness) 2- engage in repentance (tawbah) 3- follow that sin with good deeds 4- righteous believers make duaa for that person’s forgiveness 5- when righteous believers gifts him some of their good deeds 6- when prophet mohammad peace be upon him intercedes to him on day of judgement (shafaah) 7-when Allah tests him with difficulties in this life 8- when Allah makes things difficult for him in his grave 9- when Allah tests him during horrors and difficulties on day of judgement 10- when Allah chooses to have mercy on him
