I wish there are more people like you who sees things from a perspective of a fellow earth habitant towards the positive side of China rising. Not seeing it as an potential rivalry and enemy like a lot of Indians do. India and China should not be toxic competition towards each other. It is entirely possible to make a mutually beneficial partnership. All people need to do is changing their mindset.

All are good observations! Thanks! As a Chinese, I can also see a lot of changes around me. 1. Mobile payment is more popular. 2. Owning a car: 10 years ago, mightbe only 30% of my friends owned a car, now I think 90% of my friends have cars. 3. Video call (by wechat): the mobile phone data plan is cheaper and cheaper, more and more people get used to use video wechat call. 4. Travel by highspeed train: the first long distance high speed train from Guangzhou to Wuhan started operation in 2009, the highspeed train network is getting bigger and bigger in last 10 years. I remember I travelled back from Guangzhou to Wuhan by high speed train the first time in 2010, it was amazing. reduced the travel time from 12 hours to 4 hours. 5. Metro system in Cities: in 2010, only no more than 10 cities have metro system. now 33 cities have metro system. 6. Chinese car brands get more and more better. 10years a ago, Chinese car brands only build very cheap cars, now more and more local car brands get more and more popular.

One of the best improvements was definitely air quality. Initially, in 2010, 2011, I was just visiting China as a VIP delegate. Air pollution wasn't too bad. But from around 2013, it was horrendous. Things started to improve around 2016 while I was living there I think. But possibly more so in Beijing than elsewhere - In BJ, a lot of the big polluters were forced to move outside the capital. And then there was a big change in winter heating fuel, which also delivered noticeably better air quality. I'm not sure if it's quite as good if you head down to Handan or comparable cities with a strong heavy industry focus.

Having visited China several times between 2006 and last year, I can fully agree with most of these points. One specific point I noticed myself was when I last year visited the Shanghai Auto Show I was genuinely surprised by how much the Chinese automobile industry had changed compared with when I first visited China. And it wasn't just for show, that same change is very noticeable on the streets too. I am somewhat curious though, considering everything on this list were changes that improved the country, what would you consider the biggest negative changes over those 10 years? Because personally, I had somewhat mixed feelings with my last visit, especially compared to my earlier visits.
@飒飒-t8w4 жыл бұрын
because the western don't like a strong and rich China. The biggest negative change is that Chinese people becom more and more confident and don't want to follow the west and look at somebody's face.
@WizardOfOss4 жыл бұрын
@@飒飒-t8w nah, that's mostly a political thing. And while I certainly have my thoughts about that, I don't care too much about it when I visit a country. I mean, last year I also visited Russia, and I truly enjoyed it. That's not to say I didn't enjoy my visit to China last year, I really did. But still, some aspects annoyed me quite a bit more than during previous visits. Some obvious things, like the amount of censorship (you'll absolutely NEED and VPN nowadays!) or the increasingly complicated visa procedure, but also things like all of the scammers at every place slightly touristy (and the police turning a blind eye to them), or generally how people behave, seemingly oblivious to everyone else around them. There's still a lot to love about China, but not everything is changing for the better. But that's coming from me as a tourist. I'm just curious how a foreigner living in China for so long experiences things differently. An unbiased view of China now and 10 years ago, with positives AND negatives. Several other China-KZbinrs that have made some great content in the past have left the country and have since only made extremely negative videos. That's NOT what I'm looking for. You can love a place but still be critical about it.
@飒飒-t8w4 жыл бұрын
@@WizardOfOss Do you know Newton' third law?When America or Trump admins stirs up enmity against China, everything cannot return back. Our Country is bullied by the west for too long. Sometimes when we become stronger and stronger, we must suggest to the west: this condition has to be stop. But our people love peace and still keep friendly to the visitors. I have to say:the small part of people will show the behavior you don't like.

@@飒飒-t8w I'm not American, and I do what most people do with Trump: just laugh at him being an idiot. Like I said, that's just politics, and the world is a much nicer place if you don't care too much about it. And it's definitely not what I judge a country on when I visit it.

Very truthful. In 2008 I bought a few knockoffs of very expensive watches on Shanghai. After one month they literally fell apart 😁 But the seller was honest because he said they weren't real. I love the high speed train, it's so much better than flying or driving. The growth of the internal tourism market has as a downside that it's often very busy at those tourist sites. The authenticity also suffers sometimes because the site has to be adjusted to accommodate the growth in numbers. You forgot one important item : Traffic safety is improving. Because of the camera's and the penalties(money and losing points) cars nowadays(mostly) STOP at traffic lights. 10 years ago traffic lights were often ignored and crossing the street was very hard(it's still very hard when there are no traffic lights).
