Loved this vídeo and the sound of your piano. I think Kawai has a more colorfull sound than both Steinway and Yamaha.

Great video presentation to bring awareness to how awesome the Kawai GX are. I own a beautiful SK3 which I adore. Have always enjoyed playing Steinways but in terms of value, the Shigeru is as good if not better in terms of build quality but half the price: they have some similar qualities but of course not the same tone. Each have their own beauty. As far as the GX series is concerned, I personally feel nothing else comes close at it’s price point in terms of a piano for professionals and advanced pianists. Martha Argerich pairs her Steinway with a Kawai in her living room in Brussels!!

Hey! Could you do more tutorial videos in the future? Like how to practice, repertoire suggestions for the different skill levels or similar content?

I recently bought a piano and I extensively tried nearly all the models from Yamaha, Kawai, Steinway and Bechstein. Sadly I have to say that I just cannot agree with your assessment personally. For me Yamahas were all better than comparable kawais, Bechsteins were better than alle the Yamahas and Steinway was better than Bechstein. Steinway has this magical tone, amazing touch, perfect clearness through all registers and every instrument feels like a masterpiece at least in the store I played which was a Steinway store. Sadly they aren’t an affordable option. Kawais are fine pianos but imo it wasn’t even nearly close. Of course I ended up choosing an affordable option in the end myself, but that doesn’t make me discredit the masterful peaces of art Steinway creates.

Kind of a weird comparison in terms of tone if you ask me. The scale designs and hammers are so different between the two makes that they don't sound very similar at all. Especially the tenor, which is the most used range, has a completely different timbre. Lovely sounding Kawai though, which I think can stand on its own merits rather than be compared with a Steinway. The comparison is very interesting from a price point of view, since the quality is arguable as good or better. So if your preference isn't largely skewed towards the Steinway tonality, then you can save a lot of money for an equally fine instrument. M&H is also a cheaper alternative that has a more similar scale design and tonality to its american counterpart.

it is not the price that matters! It is quality! Kawai is of the highet quality!

Great channel, just discovered it!! 👏 I’m a happy owner of a Kawai RX-2 and NV10 (hybrid). I am thinking of getting a new piano some day, either a Steinway or Shigeru Kawai. Just curious - you mentioned toward the end that if you’re a millionaire and want a status symbol, get a Steinway which “isn’t a ton better than a Kawai” - but if it’s not a ton better it sounds like at least you’d say it’s a little better? If so, what aspect would you say makes Steinway better overall? I do like the tone of Steinway and sometimes find Kawai a little too thin, although I like how precise and controllable the touch is, so it’s a tough call!
@pardonmypiano2 жыл бұрын
it is indeed a tough call! I love that Kawai's keyboard feels better. It is so important to have good control of the keys because it will ultimately affect your interpretation. Overall, Steinway has a better sound if you compare pianos that are less then 6 feet in length. Leading artists around the world have problems deciding if they like Steinway or Kawai more when they play on longer pianos. Hope this helped!! :)

@@pardonmypiano thank you so much for taking the time to reply, I really appreciate it!! Good points, this is definitely helpful! I definitely love the feel of the keyboard of my NV10 so I imagine a SK might be great. I think a piano with amazing tone but hard to control action would definitely be less enjoyable

Great information . would be great if you did a video on the functions and settings etc on the Kawai MP11SE as so many have it and the manuals never really give people a sense how to get the most out of the stage piano at home

Great playing! THe GX series is the mid level series piano in Kawai's lineup. A Shigeru Kawai SK6 is superior to the Steinway B in every way. THe carbon action in both is series is superior

you should have got hold of a Shigeru, I dont think it would be fair to compare a mainstream Kawai to a Steinway!

Steinway s sound -warm ,have soul . Sound s of Kawai(even Shigeru Kawai)-not warm ,like electronic color
@benjaminsmith2287 Жыл бұрын
You have to really compare the SK6 to the Steinway B or so. That has more of everything. More colors, more subtle tones, more treble articulation and richer tenor and bass. The GX6 is in the conservatory class, like Yamaha CX and Boston pianos. The SK6 is a very fine piano. But it is a different sound than Steinway still. It's its own world of timbres that is not quite like any other brand. The GX6 is still a a very nice piano in the conservatory class and definitely should be used more in venues.
@verslaflamme666 Жыл бұрын
Boston is unfortunately a rip off tho and shouldn’t be compared to the great Kawai GX and Yamaha CX lines. Boston is built by Kawai but literally uses scratched + older Kawai designs so you’re paying a premium for a piano with outdated technology. Not to mention too every conservatory student can agree that Boston pianos r notorious for getting sticky keys + dead projection

Unfortunately, you couldn't be more wrong... there is no "better piano" here. Beauty, or preference in sound, touch, etc, will vary person by person. The sound, tone, feel, etc may feel great to one person, but another person may think it's awful. Please do more research and understand pianos better before you spread more misinformation. Thank you! Beautiful piano btw!
