This is a video I have been wanting to make for quite a long time. This is a discussion video about how Koei-Tecmo can improve their main Warriors games.
The later Warriors games have been received with mixed and even negative reviews from it's own core fanbase. This video is not about shitting on Koei-Tecmo for their main Warriors games. On the contrary, this video is about giving constructive criticism on how Koei-Tecmo can improve their flagship series. I do believe it's important to have constructive criticism at the end of the day, instead of just complaining with no solution.

The Hyrule/FE warriors games feel like they love and respect of both Koei/Nintendo fans, heavily implementing mechanics from their native games into the warriors gameplay, great variety in characters (Though FE warriors dropped the ball on that one, with how many clones are in that game), maintaining is a good range of difficulty and providing a huge amount of content (especially in the first Hyrule warriors game). It’s a shame the main series games seem to be failing in pleasing the fans.

Honestly, when I first played SB, I was amazed by how unique everything was compared to how Koei does it. Bosses actually felt like bosses, move-sets expressed the character and were fun (imo), and it had Conquest Mode which I love to this day.

@@exilewarrior7760 That would be “Sengoku Basara”, it’s a title developed and published by Capcom back in like 2005. It has about 4 mainline games with some spin-offs here and there. Can’t believe it’s already been a year since my comment, someone tell time to slow down!

a fewer enemies will definitely helps with ai intelligence and it would be better if those troops will serve it's purposes rather than standing around waiting to be hit. like swordsman/spearman type troop will actually defend their archer/mage/riflemen and those range troops will actually fall back if the melee troops gets wiped out., or having a cavalry unit that will charge at you like takeda shingen map in Basara 2 Heroes. also it's 2022, i won't really expected free stuff from a big company. they will literally milk their tittle to the last drop of content for profit.

I would like to see them go back to a "historical" sense, but also embrace the anime-ish style they have been. Like keep making Lu Bu seem like a god among men, but also follow what happened in his life. I think a good merger of the two would do wonders. I absolutely agree with the lower enemy numbers but better AI.

I do like historical context, when it's necessary to drive the story forward. For example, the rough political alliance between Liu Bei and Sun Quan. I do agree with you 100% that Dynasty Warriors and Samurai Warriors should embrace both the "historical" aspect and the anime aspect.

Nah I prefer the more fantasy style we see from the orochi series, it keeps the weapons interesting and less boring

I'll admit to mostly playing the empires versions of these games. But the problems you mentioned ring true there as well. Even I was shocked that they refuse to listen to any criticism as noted by your experience in the discord server.

I would suggest them to get back to dw6. It has graphics that looks realistic but at the same time look like a video game. Also, it has bases and gates to destroy and great siege machines like rams and catapults. It felt like real war and the tomes were great addition to the game. It also had alot of unique ideas like the ability to separate officers (idk how to explain it but at the start of the battle, the enemies has like multiple officers as bodyguards and later they can be separated to increase the total number of enemy officers). Also, the duel mode during the fight where the soldiers form a circle half enemies half allies. The heal item that spawn in bases. As far as i know, people hated dw6 only for the attack/combo system. Why didnt they just fix it? A new game with both systems would be great.

Profar, there is one thing you forgot that Koei Tecmo should bring back for mainline Warriors: OPENING EDITS!!! I really miss that particular extra because it lets you play around with customizing particular scenes for a special movie with a lot of funny potential.

Another way for difficulty is make it so that other officers would be scripted to counter your musou with their own depending on the difficulty setting for how likely they do so or even have secondary musous or aerials to knock you or enemy officers out of their i frames in the start of the musou to stagger them

I saw another video mention in 7 and 8 how the basic troops served almost no purpose other than to build your musou and drop items for you, like on hard difficulty it's like "ok there's this officer coming up, he has a ton of HP for no reason, so I'll just go one shot these 30 infantry, build my musou, have one of them drop me a 2x attack, then I go over and chunk his HP with the boosted musou" and thats basically how you handle all officers since the troops had no HP and just stood around, and dropped too many items, while the officers were all damage sponges. Edit: I Also saw another suggestion in a video about DW10, maybe just soft reboot the series. make 10 about the warring states of China *leading up to* the formation of the Han Dynasty, the wars that took place then, even the Qin dynasty before it possibly.

No matter what you should never be able to just one shot a boss, because the fact that theyre difficult and a lot tougher is what makes them a boss (most of the time)

Oh yeah absolutely. One-shotting enemy bosses, completely defeats the purpose of having enemy bosses.

The funny part is, in Basara, Katakura Kojuro has a move that can one-shot a boss, but you have to charge it all the way. Just pressing the button will just make him do a strong vertical slice. When you do charge it, you need the enemy right where you want them to. Otherwise, they'll just evade or block it. In higher difficulties, the bosses will even try to stop you immediately after they see you charge the move. The only way for this to work is to have the separate "power-up" state active where time moves slower and your character moves faster and attacks deal more damage. So you have to have the right resources just to make the one-shot move work. But the neat thing is, with the way Basara plays, just using the move normally and not charging it down is already viable (Kojuro's version, at least. Masamune's version still has a long startup even when not charged, but deals a ton of damage). You really need to set up if you wanna use it to one-shot, which takes a hefty amount of effort. Plus the fact that only Kojuro and Masamune has this type of move shows that it's really only there for style points. I only ever used these moves as combo extenders/finishers, and barely charge them down to get their one-hit kill attributes.

Could it be that in the spinoffs the IP owners specifically ask for something different from the mainline games (or even suggest unique mechanics), so the devs comply and include those and also feel more likely to experiment with the formula? For example I really don't see Hokuto no Ken boss characters be surrounded by dozens of grunts during their fights with Kenshiro, it doesn't make sense for the setting. Meanwhile in the main games they know what sells and feel like they don't need to improve anything other than the money making aspect.

Considering that the best selling Warriors game is a licensed spin-off (Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity, which sold 3 million copies worldwide in just its first 4 days), some staff at KT knows that they have to step up their game for their main series.

Great video I agree with all your ways and wishes I'd like to see it too it would make these games so much better. If only the other koei channels would actually be honest like this. The only other one that would be honest was sex gravy but he left the koei community due to being fed up with it. I would say a additional thing I'd like to see is More Brand New Story To Tell For your 3 games ideas so we're not just seeing the same story over and over again. I'd also like to see More well done What It stories too to make it fresh and have something there. I also think what If forces and characters swaps would be interesting like instead of Guan Yu and Zhang fei joining Liu bei there's a story where they join Wu or Dong Zhuo. Or like Dian wei being Sun Jians bodyguard instead of Cao Cao just something wild like that. I would just want well done What Ifs and Brand new story both added because I'm honestly tired of seeing the same old story we've been told over and over again. Some what ifs and Brand new story from the 3 games idea you had would help that.

I used to say that I wanted Koei Tecmo to go back to the PS2 era but now I just want something original that works well for Dynasty Warriors X. But also wouldn't mind Dynasty Warriors 3/4/5 PC port with graphics overhaul. One can dream...

I agree with your suggestions. Indeed, I do think DW needs to be more than just one game because of it's story. However, I don't think a trilogy could be the best choise. Maybe an 'Extreme Legends' edition with the rise of Jin would make the best, since most of the "best-known" generation (at least the one most of the DW players we've played know) die after Wu Zhang Plains Battle. On the other side, I do agree with your points taking all the positive from SB: their identity, specially in their PS2 games were absolutely brilliant. One could get captured easily just by the looks of Yukimura and Masamune, even before trying playing with their combos.

I prefer having unique movesets specifically assigned for CAWs, but you only use one for each. They have done it before with Fu Xi and Nuwa's weapons in DW, as well as generic weapons in SW.

I haven't been around this community for as long as you have, but I understand how you feel about Koei doing things that hurt the business and the games more than it helps. Reminds me of the time I tried to explain to my younger sister why it's scummy of them to do some of these practices, but she was like "Every company does that!" And she isn't wrong about that. But just because most companies do that, doesn't necessarily mean it's right

@@mathewhosier9739 Even so, making questionable decisions for your game like a DLC patch for day one, having players use their actual money for things that should've been in base game and half-assing the development so much that the game is a glitchy mess upon release are just examples of scummy business practices that harm a product more than it helps it and I'm talking about pretty much every game company that does this shit.

The main thing I want changed is the combat and character design/characterization. I find the heavy anime influence to be insufferable at best. Zhong Hui being a cliche anime narcissistic pretty boy with the cliche anime protagonist hair weilding floating swords? Really? This is Ancient China, not a JRPG. NOW DON'T GET ME WRONG, I don't need 100% realism. In fact, Dynasty Warriors never did that. Zhuge Liang and Sima Yi shooting laser out of war fans, Zhen Ji wielding a flute that weaponizes music, Zhang Jiao basically using a flamethrower. But this worked for the older games because they few and far between. But when it gets to the point where Li Dian is weilding... whatever the fuck that wheel spear thingy is, Huang Gai weilding a fucking row boat mounted on his arm, Guo Huai using a portable rapid fire cannon, and Xiahou Ba using a FUCKING ROCKET, it has clearly strayed far beyond pure absurdity. And that's not even going into the bonkers attacks and musous. Sima Zhao having an EX attack where he rides an enemy like a surfboard? Really? Then one of his musous is creating a giant ball of energy then kicking it into the enemy? Not inherently bad for Dynasty Warriors, but for a character like Sima Zhao who has no connection to magic, it's kinda stupid. You can still be creative and avoid clones without doing stuff like this. The series has used historically inaccurate weapons and I have absolutely no problem with that. Sun Ce's and Ling Tong's signature weapons are karate training weapons that didn't even exist in the Three Kingdoms period. And we all love Zhang He's claws. They were unique, but not over the top stupid like a rocket spear. I don't need Dynasty Warriors to become a super grounded and realistic game. I just want KoeiTecmo and, by extension, Omega Force, to chill tf out with the flashy, over the top combat and the insufferable anime influence.

After Dynasty Warriors 9, i hope they would look to a new perspective. I wish it would be focused on the Later days of Jin transitioning to the 16 kingdoms. Its kind of tiring already that the last 9 instalments just revolved around the Romances of the Three Kingdoms. I guess its time to put to an end as how Jin ended the Three kingdom and have the story gets its progression into a newer pictures of the saga.

Wo, buddy, are you saying they should extend the story to after Jin united the land, fwcked it all up and shattered China into million smaller pieces? That would be way too far. It is called the Three Kingdom era for a reason you know. I would suggest extending the story till Sima Yan successfully subdue Wu, uniting the land in one piece. What comes after the unification is no longer in the scope of the 3 Kingdom era. Otherwise you could just extend it till Mao Zedong and the CCP unify modern China.

I personally disagree with the idea that "Enemy Commanders should be the stage's final boss," with the idea that there should/could be a mid-level boss that is better than that. i.e. Lu Bu at Hulao over Dong Zhuo, or Zhang Liao at Hefei over Cao Cao (on Wu side). But I get where it's coming from, and I think most enemy commanders should be unique encounters. Cao Cao at Chibi shouldn't be a push-over but he can't be an epic boss as he should be someone who realizes he's on the backfoot and probably flee for his life. I think the "weapon switch" is a cute mechanic, but should indeed be removed, especially with the addition of clone characters as demonstrated in DW7 and SW5. The "grounded" argument is also a bit twisted. I'm fine with some anime-isms and over-the-top action (though I'd prefer an art style more like Total War Three Kingdoms). The grounded style goes hand in hand with the difficulty, enemy gameplay design, enemy numbers, and Musou attacks. It's hard to balance all of those with over-the-top, sending many enemies flying, and keeping things difficult. Personally, I don't know what go with, but I would ideally go more grounded. I would want to keep things slightly floaty but still stiff enough not to keep everything in the air for too long. Intro and victory cutscenes are also an underrated and amazing inclusion that need to return. At least do something with introducing special characters or duel intros like in DW3/4, they could just be a short, snappy "Hey, I'm Officer," and back into combat. Though it would certainly get repetitive when they* make every officer a unique one over a generic one. Maybe lock it to special engagements or just at least a text box intro for minor engagements. My biggest takeaway from this is that: it's hard to keep these games fresh without a monumental amount of work. Most of these games are indeed beat'em-ups with a lot of stages, story, characters, special interactions. All of this requiring mapping, writing, animations, and everyone fears the amount of workload for art direction and modeling. It's hard to keep all of that moving at a swift and smooth workflow, let alone monetary balance. I still hate the monetization of modern gaming industries, but it's safe to say these games will need to scale down somehow before they truly become fun and worth the price tag.

Sounds like you just want another sengoku Basara. I think dynasty warriors should be a little grounded and realistic compared to that. I've been playing DW5E lately, with no nostalgia for 5 or for empires in general, and I'm liking it over most of the other musou games I own. Having to defeat the beast masters controlling 2 invincible tigers that are following behind every officer in the Nanman regions was a cool twist that had me adjust my strategy. Ithis was also a fresh save on hard with my own kingdom and I've had to be very careful in what feels like a great balance for me. I've also bought orochi 4 recently, also on hard, and I don't find it nearly as good. I just kind of spam generic magic until I got a good combo, use heavy magic, and throw in a few unity attacks and I've killed thousands? In DW5E, 300 kills was an accomplishment. In orochi 4, I think I bumped my controller while sneezing.

You can make weapons so broken in Warriors Orochi 3 and 4 that you can one shot any general on the highest difficulty with a normal attack. It's kinda' funny. Legends of Troy actually treated their bosses with respect. The battles against monsters are great. That game gets a bad rap, but it's not actually that bad a musou game. Far better than the latest main line games.

Yes, WO3 Ultimate is worth buying. Especially on the PC version. It is the best Koei Musou game in my opinion.

I think pirate warriors 4 falls under the same Ai difficulty issues that you mentioned, while 3 had a decent balance of that stuff. Same for FE warriors 2. The AI difficulty is definitely one of my biggest issues with current koei musou games

They could throw in some of the nioh and ninja gaiden dna to get better results for sure. Good suggestions all around, but this franchize is known for its bare minimum shortcut development. It no longer is the avant-garde feanchize ut was during dw4/5.

@redfairy9278 yeah, a little more forgiving version of niohs combat could work since Nioh feels like the perfect blend between onimusha (tempo), demon souls (pace) and Ninja Gaiden ( complexity).

I never liked weapon swap / weak to element weapons. It heavily annoys me. I feel as if I have to in a way change my character and the character is a weapon skin now.

As far as the main series Orichi 4 was the peak. After that, nothing but the spin-offs we’re worth playing. And it seems like they’re not making anymore at this point.

I still prefer the first Samurai Warriors as the best of the series, it's challenging, able to customize own hero, good mission system and there're hidden path gaiden story, good memory playing it, i thought they will improve better with ps4 n better tech but 😔

I can mostly agree with you and the points i dont agree with are just because of my own personal preference (i understand that they would improve musou games but i just dont like these changes as much ^^'). I would love to see Destiny Mode again. It is the only reason that i play DW5 XL rather than other DW titles. Tbh i really dislike the weapon switch system that was implemented in the DW series. it felt lazy and lifeless imo. I cant say anything towards the SW series because i never played them but WO 4 is imo still a good game if you compare it to the other modern mainline games in the Musou series. There is only one Sengoku Basara game i played: Samurai Heroes, and i still love it. I love that with each character there are multiple paths to take within the story. You have the True story and multiple alternate story paths. There are also multiple characters to unlock with each character having certain conditions i.e. clearing a specific story path with x character or choosing to chase character y on a certain map instead of the actual mission caracter. I think this is also something that would be beneficial to the Musou series. Like you said using Desiny mode to unlock new characters to play and be in service in (for Desiny Mode) would give the games imense replayvalue. But i think that Koei wont ever change the way they make the mainline games, because the fans will still buy them no matter what. There really isnt anything like it so the fans are almost forced to keep buying their shit games. The only reason that games like Pirate Warriors or Hyrule Warriors are so good is that they are IP's that arent owned by Koei

The tier system already exists in the older Warriors games, both damage output and aggressiveness were higher from higher ranked enemies in DW2-5. They abandoned this system with DW6 when they started prioritizing massive amounts of enemies being on screen over actual gameplay. Also splitting DW into 3 different era based games makes no sense considering we have seen from DW3,4, and 5 that Koei is capable of making games about the entire era without cuts in content or characters.

Ngl, i never enjoyed the extra modes. Too gimmicky for me. Their issue is that they keep trying to reboot the franchise when they can just evolve what they already had. Example, DW9 shouldve just ported the dw8 movesets and exchange the switch mechanic with trigger attacks. Then, they could also fix the bad movesets like in SW4. All of KTs best games recycle and enhance assets from the previous titles. DW4/5 improved on DW2/3, DW8 is a massive upgrade from dw7, and every SW game improves from 1 -> 4 (except 3, that was bound to suck because of the wii)

I have the same exact feeling in regards to that. I do believe KT should have improved what they had from the previous games, instead of completely changing or reboot them. That's actually what Sengoku Basara did as the series progressed. As a result, Sengoku Basara is more consistent when it comes to quality. Also, in regards to Samurai Warriors 3 being sucked on the Wii, that's literally on Koei's fault. Sengoku Basara 3 is on the Wii as well, and it runs just as good as the PS3 version, despite it's graphical downgrade.

I'm sure if omega force received a higher budget from koei tecmo and gave them more time to develop the games they would be better, also the majority of omega force developers are in their 40s and 50s, they need some fresh blood

I disagree about warriors orochi 4 ultimate, while there is only 3 game modes, the game has a record breaking 177 playable characters, each with their own unique weapons and movesets with zero cloned content, the only two complaints i had was less maps than wo3u and barely any alternate costumes, but i dont play musuo games for costumes or any cosmetics, imo the roster alone is a massive selling point, and the game still has nearly 50 maps when you include the dlc, not to mention the magic system nearly doubles the moveset of each character, on top of that you can choose which sacred treasure for each character which greatly alters the magic moves available, ive put well over 1,000 hours in the game and i probably won't stop anytime soon

Hideyoshi Hashiba being able to use every type of weapon is canonically apt given his name "Monkey." If I give you a stick, you'll fight with it. If I give you a sword, you'll still fight with it. If I give you a bamboo drum, you'll throw it at the enemies then pull out your hidden 8ft long naginata and slice the enemies to pieces. Musou games are power fantasies, difficulty aside.

I agree with you and the swordman commentator. For the koei tecmo has no competitors, and the rest of the developers are screwing up several popular genres. But I do not agree with you in one statement. How to combine movesets and musou with few enemies. Team musou, pair musou, special musou, regular musou, rage musou, and jump musou. How can this be used when there are 30 enemies in sight. This needs to be redone for the entire series. Absolutely everything. And I think this is the best option for the company. In general, the koei tecmo has many problems. 3 identical samurai games, where 3 musou scales were added to the 3rd one. and 3 more identical games, where even the character design has not changed, progression and movesets. Although it was the same with the old games of the dynasty.

I agree with this on so many levels. I am a big fan of the basara series and every few months I am looking to play something similar, last time I went with Samurai Warriors 5. But the end is always the same, I always end up playing those other games for a few hours just to go back to basara 4 sumeragi. I love characters being unique and basara seems to be the only warriors game with a lot of cool and unique move sets. Samurai Warriors five feels soo cheap compared to it. Anyways, good video so far, I am only 21 minutes in and had to leave a comment after listeting to what you had to say about the whole moveset and weapon stuff. :D cheers

I've played DW3, DW3XL, DW4, DW4XL, DW4E, DW5, DW7, DW8, DW8XL, SW, SWXL, SW2, SW2XL, SW4, SW5, WO2, WO3, WO4. I have no idea how much cash I've sunk into this franchise, but do I reget it? No! As a sidenote, people who enjoy my books may notice a certain inspiration on the fight scenes from this series 😈💥⚔

They need to reduce the level to which you can "craft" your weapons. In recent games, starting from WO onwards, it became possible to pile elements on your weapons to make them far too powerful and reduce the difficulty (and, for me, fun) of the games to zilch. It should be possible to craft weapons as good as rare/ultimate weapons but not far beyond.

We probably don't need more than 50 characters in a game. SW4 was a nice sweet spot for me where there were plenty of characters and they remained unique. Rather than adding characters, they need to flesh out movesets more.

Good video man. The only thing I would disagree with is weapon switching. I still think that should be an option in future games, but implement more individual and unique movesets. Maybe give the player a reason to equip their preferred weapon.

I think I have placed my stance that weapon switching should not be implemented period. Koei-Tecmo and Omega Force should focus on making characters their own identity with their own respective moveset. Having weapon switching system is just going to dilute character's personality, regardless if they implement some individual and unique movesets. They still share movesets with others. It's better to have one in-depht moveset for each characters, than multiple shallow movesets that are shared with others. Also, you don't need a reason to equip characters with their preffered weapons, when characters cannot share weapons in the first place.

We don't care about good games only money! Man, it bugs me that after playing WO3DE oh how different they are now as a company. it makes me very sad. I loved SW1 because of the Ai, and the NPCs felt like they were a threat not a oh meat bags. less enemies are better for the series. SW1 has what you mentioned tier Enemies "Sky ninja, Sumos, and fire ninja" hell even Guard Captains were a threat if you were not carful. I want them to do that. And yes, Weapon Switch NEEDS TO BE REMOVED FROM THE GAME PERIOD! it makes DW7 and 8 so unfun to play because of it. ALSO steam photo bomb! 19:21 I can see if I can mod kasuga's moveset over the wii version of Basara sometime and show it, if I can do it that is. :3

I love warriors games like anyone else, but let's face it. Koei has not, and as much as we want, will not fix any of their games . It's just basically as is. Dont get me wrong, i would trade in every single Warriors games I've bought over the years just to have Koei make one good Dw. It won't happen

I've never understood why their spin-off games, Hyrule Warriors, etc., are the best ones. Those ones should be as good as they are but they should take every lesson learned there to push DW/SW games even better.

Typically because more money. The spin off games would be funded by Nintendo or Namco-Bandai etc who definitely have a bigger budget. Not to mention fans of those properties like Zelda or One Piece bring a new audience who will most likely buy it for being attached to their favorite property rather than another DW or SW

Awesome video , your ideas are great :D a very well in depth video 11/10 Also I think they need to add special moves for bosses , like when you are fighting a boss Orochi/Tadakatsu/Lu Bu they should be in a boss mode moveset as for musou attacks i think they should work similarly like SW5 where the characters start rapidly attacking and when your musou hits zero they perform the cinematic attack so i guess you can say it would be like WO1/2 Musou attacks but you just add a cinematic move at the end , reason why i want this is because it would allow you to cancel the musou attacks and also use them for combos and yes they really should not have weapon switching i always hated it Also they should drop the rpg element instead they should focus on making the difficulty more like god of war (for an example) where it depends more on your skill rather then stats, this will fix the insta killing thing and also would change the end-game feeling , since the early game and the end game always felt different One thing you didn't mentioned is how the stages work , for me the warriors games were always a war games where you and your officers fight along side you to finish the battle, so i don't like it when koei makes the officers unimportant on the battlefield so they should focus more on how a stage is being played , like instead of just killing all enemies you have to do something else older WO games were like this, like protecting peasants, sneaking in a castle , chasing down a enemy , playing the drums to call out for your allied friends ect (in other words make the stages more unique) And also make the stages alive , what i mean by that make them have stuff like WO3 where you can do more than walk , like make them have cliffs , make it so you can jump over gates , use catapults/canons ect , make it so you can swim in water by doing this the stages feel like you really are in the battlefield also about older warriors games being grounded i think that's more of a opinion , i don't think that the one is better then the other so i guess it all depends on what type of warriors game they want to make sorry if i repeated my self on some things , its because of my bad English

Hvala Dimitri. Your English is fine, no worries. Those are really good ideas. Especially the boss characters. I agree, bosses should have different moveset than that of them being a playable character. They actually did that in One Piece: Pirate Warriors games. Characters like Orochi, Tadakatsu, and Lu Bu should not be the same as a playable character, when you fight them as bosses.

1) "Less characters on screen" If they would do that, the games would lose their appeal. The main characteristic that sells Musou games as a genre is the ability to slay entire armies by yourself, no other genre does that, and removing this would put the game in the traditional Hack n Slash genre, where you combo single opponents or small groups of 3 or 5 at max, turning the game into a wasteland, losing the "look" of 2 massive armies fighting each other on massive battlefields, and also nerfing/removing your ability to slay 1 or 2 thousand enemies in a single match. My alternative solution to this would be, to keep the massive brain dead fodder armies on screen, but add more generic officers in the field, make the officers tougher, give each big battalion on screen 1 or 2 generic officers in the middle, that way you make the game harder and preserve the genre's uniqueness intact. 2) "AI tier in terms of intelligence" I agree, officers do need a buff, but if the make the combat for 1v1 a little deeper, that could be good to add some challenge. 3) "Enemy commanders as Boss battles" I completely agree here, I usually nerf my character's attack power by choosing weaker weapons because the special weapons trivialize the game. 4) "Remove the weapon switching system" I couldn't agree more, I remember when I was upgrading characters back in the DW5 days, My favorite was Zhao Yun but I picked up Cao Pi to level him up, his moveset was horrible but everything about the character was cool, so I had to experiment with his combos to find a good one and select the best items to compensate for his weaknesses... now if a character is ass, you just switch their weapons, so why bother picking a character at all? Like you said, they became just skins, nothing more. Points 5, 6 and 7 I agree... 8) "Dynasty Warriors as a trilogy" I'm a bit torn on this one, it definitely has it's advantages, but it could makes each game feel incomplete, unless they keep all the characters and just don't use them in the story for the last 2 games, also, rebooting the franchise fixes the numerical discrepancy in the eastern and western releases, not that it ever bothered anyone, but it helps too, I guess xD (and they should stick to the art style of Samurai Warriors 5, that thing looks gorgeous!) I also agree with the last points too, but I would like to add something as well, the combat desperately need a full overhaul, these games are already coming out outdated in regards to combat, I was so happy to see a parry and a lock-on option on Samurai Warriors 5, as well as the added special attacks, but I would like some more deeper mechanics for 1v1 fights, like a dodge (dash) button too and maybe direction related combos or moves like in the Devil May Cry series, to use on the 1v1 fights against the officers and bosses, you don't have to engage with these mechanics in the easier difficulties, but it would make a world of difference for the harder ones, specially if they code the AI to take full advantage of these mechanics. Combat shines brighter when it's complete, attack, block, parry, dodge and a lock-on system when well applied makes the combat much more engaging, the latest musou games have been nothing but a snore fest, just mash, mash, mash and it's done.

Agree with most things, halfway through video but strongly disagree with removing weapon switching systems and I will say why. 1. Sometimes a character I hate has a weapon I like to use, I don’t like Han Dang, Huang Zhong, or Zhang Liao that mucu. But I really enjoy their weapon, using them on another character is fun. 2. Carrying on from last point it is just fun to use multiple weapons in battle and they could really capitalise on making more combos from that, switch counters and switch attacks are fun. 3. Some character’s I enjoy but aren’t to fond of their weapons, Ma Dai is cool but the paintbrush, well its a paintbrush. This guy suits so many other weapons its fun to try em out. Ding Feng suits a halberd real well, Xiahou Dun can have his DW6 Mace, archer characters without a bow as main weapon can equip a bow. I understand why people dislike it, but I think it has way too many pros. It’s biggest con is how they use it as an excuse to make clones.

I made a follow up video on weapon switching, and why I think it needs to go. 1. How could you not like them, but really like the weapons and moveset? Why not just play those characters if you really like their movesets to begin with? Because the main selling point of a character is always the gameplay. Your reasoning is why weapon switching should be removed, you can turn any character into other characters that you want. It defeats the purpose of playing as different character. 2. Why not just have the R1 counter attack, without switching weapon at that point? You can basically extend your combo by doing so anyways. 3. On my first point, what's the point of playing a different character, when everyone shares movesets with everyone as well?

@@Profar26 1.Whilst I do agree slightly that a main draw to a character is their moveset, I can also just dislike a character based on their appearance and personality. This applies to a few people, Han Dang looks like dog shite and his personality is moaning about how little attention he gets. I was gutted he got the short pike as I enjoyed it more as a weapon in 7 Empires. Same for Huang Zhong just hate the old fucker but I love using a bow. 2. Yes theres many other things they could apply as a skill here, r1 triggers from DW9, r1 skills from SW5. But this comes down to preference for me and I love combos that involve a weapon switch, it’s fun in other games too such as Nioh and Wo Long. 3. Again I really do see your point here and playing older games or most SWs for that matter you can feel the difference of each character more. However I personally am happy with characters having ex attacks, musous and perhaps a few more extra moves in the arsenal (grapple attacks, parrys ect…) as their unique arsenal.

Blood and gore don't really add anything for Dynasty Warriors. You also have to change the overall design and presentation for Dynasty Warriors, to have blood and gore, specially the female characters. Blood and gore won't suit them whatsoever.

It just need more ideas gameplay variety gameplay customization like ai etc better combos more combos more usefull enemy ai more scripts on them etc its very simple to improve ths games on a paper but ths new consoles r basicaly as powerfull as ps2 they cant do much I bet they wish to make that game but either way I think they shd try more to actualy make it big bcs the potenital is there it just need lot of work and powerfull hardware thn it will be almost perfect The perfect template for future of this series wd be something like homam3 but in full 3d in a way that make sense and they cd easily do it it I think they just need 1 game that will actualy sell atleast 10mils thn they will make that one.perfevt game which no one will buy and the loop starts again hahaha
