I just want to share....our nephew lost his house to a fire 2 years ago in October. It was in the depths of covid and material costs were so high! Finding a contractor and a crew was hard! He had a heart attack with open heart surgery....then he had a tumor in his back and back surgery. It's been a tough 2 years. He had to move in before his house was 100% finished about 7 weeks ago. He was really down! We tried to help with his yard, fence, etc. He got his spark back. Flooring and cabinets are going to be finished by the EOM. He gave us the best compliment the other day.....I want this house to be simple...not so much stuff! I'm learning so much from you and Uncle S. Thanks Joshua....I think we are seeing a ripple effect! I've got him watching your videos!

Man, just when I think I've decluttered enough, I keep finding new things to get rid of. Just got another bag full of stuff! This is so much fun and brings more and more relief ... Minimalism is EXACTLY what I've been needing to find all these years. I'm so insanely happy now.

@@ronaldsneek You got this!! I have JUST got to the point where I feel very satisfied and content with everything I have declutered. I have minimised enough and now I'm a total peace! I know exactly what I own and I've surprised myself with the things I've been able to get rid of - no regrets!

At 60 I wish I had had this mindset much earlier as well. There was no talk of living a simple and minimalist lifestyle. I’m trying now but it’s a lot more difficult at this age because of health issues and the amount we’ve acquired over a lifetime.

Yes Debbie. It’s a lot more challenging now that I am 65 already and i have health issues. However, i have been inspired by Joshua even prior to the 2020 pandemic. And so, I have decluttered a lot already. And am so glad that my youngest daughter has been into decluttering lately. Thank you Joshua for your videos.

I am just now beginning my minimalist journey...at 66. I fully understand how the "stuff" has added to my stress and financial anxiety. I have possessions in storage that I haven't looked at in years! How foolish! I currently don't live alone, but as I prepare to have another home of my own, I am slowly going through my things. I want the next chapter of my life to be simple and full of peace. Thank you, Joshua.

Was just saying to my daughter yesterday how when we are younger we want want want stuff, then as we get older we want less less less to make our lives easy and homes simple to manage, been on this journey for last 3 years. I'm 51 now but wish I had found this way of living sooner but better late than never 😊

I have friends who seem to be doing laundry ALL the time. Since I have adopted the minimal lifestyle, laundry takes me a total of six minutes - which includes loading the washer, throwing a soap pod in, putting the clothes into the dryer and taking them out and folding the few items that require it. Trying to get it down to five minutes, but six works for now!

It took me a couple of years to break away from mindless shopping. It only really took hold after 3 years of decluttering and simplifying. That dopamine rush from shopping is real. But, finally, the grace of simplicity broke the cycle for me. I am grateful

My toxic parents. You just described them. The martyrs of busyness. After I cracked under the strain of all of it I rebelled against it. I was raked over the coals for sure for it by them. After so long being insulted for being “unproductive” or “not contributing” I no longer cared what they thought anymore. Best thing that ever happened to me was falling off of that hustle, go getter, over achieving, perfectionistic horse and I don’t ever want to go back. It was attached to a fam business. I soon discovered that 24/7 on call entrepreneur life just wasn’t for me at all. I began to relish the idea of not being the “wizard” of anything (such as high stress or boss positions etc) and I relished the idea of having a job that I could forget about the moment I clocked out. And not pick it back up until it was time to go to work again. And then said work would not be everyone bringing their most difficult problems to me to have to solve for them. I loathed it bcuz you really could not escape it, even if you were at home trying to just relax for awhile. Everyone was just after you all the time with all their “pressing” problems and needs. Granted you have to do this as a parent and I’d gladly hunker down for that Bcuz it’s very important. But do I really need to add 24/7 high stress job to that? I think not.

I love the comment intentionality sparks intentionality. It is too easy to buy items when they are so assessable. I grew up in a small home and we had the basics and did good. I live in a house 3 times the size I grew up in and never feel caught up. I don’t know how and when the change happened.

I have two children and I am trying to teach them to have quiet times over the summer holiday, by deliberately not filling in their holiday with activities after activities. I try to model this myself too to them, by taking leave from work but not going away from home for a ‘holiday’ since I can have a holiday at home. I’ve opted for playing table tennis at local parks, gardening with the kids, making pasta from scratch with them, hosting a sleepover for my kids’ friends etc. It’s refreshingly relaxing and is creating lovely memories because during school term times we don’t get round to do these things. Thank you Joshua.

I got tons of time , I don’t watch tv , I listen to and play music ( I play piano) I read a lot , cook and bake from scratch ( bread too) , I walk an hour every day . I take very good care of my home and helping my husband . I can not afford to shop , I do not have a car . I see my grand babies and offer to babysit them .

I so agree with you. I now live in a smaller hoise, with less stuff and yet, 8 years down the line - i am still decluttering. But my simplified life allowed me to take a long walk home via a beautiful route and keep to my values by buying milk from an eco shop in my own bottle rather than buying it from a supermarket in a plastic one. Better for the environment and btter for my mental and physical health - all thanks to minimalism.

I work 6 days a week (5 at a full time and Saturdays helping my friend with his landscaping company) and even though I work more hours than most people that I know, I don’t feel overwhelmed. Prior to taking the second job I had cut back on my possessions and spending and I don’t feel ever feel like I’m not keeping up. I love my Sundays off and am never behind on chores. I look forward to your weekly videos. Everything you say is so true. I am trying to minimise but it is a slow process - I am living intentionally by thinking more about what I buy, why I keep things and asking myself do these things add value to my life . I work in a school, in the UK, and start my summer hols next week so I am going to use the time to declutter thoroughly.

I’ve always said you’re as busy as you let yourself be. Cut out those things that aren’t important and you’ll be less stressed for sure. I have a friend who is busy from morning to night. Honestly, it exhausts me just watching her. But how can someone devote any substance to all these things? They can’t.

I practice extreme minimalism and as of a month ago, I deleted all my social media and got down to am almost extreme minimalist digital life. I raise a toddler completely by myself. I still feel overwhelmed. A parent that sucks, a co-parent that's worse. Busy in the head, if not elsewhere. Not owning a lot helps a lot, but it doesn't solve everything. Annoyingly.

Joshua, do you take topic requests? I was wondering what your thoughts were about pros and cons for upgrading things in home, not for the sake of being high maintenance or trendy but more about safety and functionality or even just a little more visual appeal. I would love to hear thoughts about making decisions on what and how to prioritize instances. What do you consider most important and how can we make sound decisions when considering various improvements? How can we convince ourselves what perhaps an upgrade is really not needed? I would love your input.

I upgrade if it makes sense overtime and saves me money like buying reuseable plates and more silverware vs having to rebuy paper plates and silverware for company to use it just makes sense, but I do not keep it with our daily use things

'Abdullah bin Mas'ud (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) slept on a straw mat and got up with the marks left by it on his body. Ibn Mas'ud (May Allah be pleased with him) said, "O Messenger of Allah! Would that you make us spread out a soft bedding for you." He (ﷺ) replied, "What have I to do with the world? I am like a rider who had sat under a tree for its shade, then went away and left it." [At- Tirmidhi, who classified it as Hadith Hasan Sahih]. My greetings from Saudi Arabia 😊
