Thanks for video, one question...how can we reduce the "superman" position (horisontal body, only hanging by handlebar) when rear wheel hit us in the butt? It happens to me also when jump over big logs and hit too hard, or when climbing steep hill with last 50cm vertical wall, I just lose contact with the pegs.

You forgot number 11, my favourite. Stack the bike a few times while trying to get over it, rage quit and throw the bike down, finally, use the knuckle dragger technique of turning the bike off, lay it on it's side and skull dragging it over, then resume your normal riding position.

+CROSS TRAINING, ENDUROCROSS & ENDURO TECHNIQUES you could also go over a diagonal slippery log with lots of speed and fall over and the momentum will carry the bike over the log that's what I did a couple of times this past weekend when attempting the bunny hop with very little traction because of storms

I've been watching your vids ever since I bought my 2010 WR250 a year ago, I've quietly been practicing most of what you've covered, log hopping, cornering, keeping momentum up hills and going as slow as possible to learn how to balance properly. Last weekend I went riding with a group of guys with awesome brand new bikes and much to my surprise I found I not only kept up with them but made it through some of the gnarlier parts better than they did. I just wanted to say a big thanks, it really isn't the bike but how you ride it, on the flat the New bikes - KTM XC, YZX and RMZ zoomed past but I overtook them in the snotty stuff. Cheers!

awesome to hear miki... a few years back we had some motocrossers scream past on the flat track then at the first slippery hill they were all bowled over like bowling pins as we climbed past with no wheelspin in the mud. one of our girls stopped to ask them if they needed help, the look on their faces was a classic. :)

great videos. Thanks! I've been trying these techniques and buildiing an enduros track to practice on here in NY. someone asked about weighting and de-weighting. first of all set your suspension soft, then exaggerate putting weight on the forks like your jumping on a pogo stick. hit the front brake hard and push down all the way and that should give you the feel of full compression on the forks. for deweighting just lean back exactly like Jarvis pop the clutch and nail the throttle.

With the levels of skills you and the mates have reached you are however breaking away from the pack and thats a bit demotivating. I would therefore urge you to share your developmental journey in a video where you compile the phases you have been through in getting to the current skill level. Just to pick up those of us who now struggle to see your fender in the dust. Thanks a bunch.

Thanks to Mr. Morris and his videos, I have come to the realization that I am a slow learner. (Thank you again Barry for bottoming out my self esteem...) That said, I will say in my own defense that opportunities to practice log crossing here in Alaska are few and far between (our trees are very skinny). However, after inconsistently practicing several of the Cross Training techniques espoused by the astute Mr. Morris, I am pleased to report that my balance (which was good to begin with) and my clutch technique have improved immensely in the last four months. I'm surprised, because it has affected even my go fast riding, using the clutch in combination with weighting/de-weighting to "leap" (get light) over rough trail sections and to pop the front end up at will. Because of the break throughs in clutch, balance and weighting/de-weighting, techniques such as these log crossings are coming into focus and the realm of possibility for me. ...In the absence of sizable logs to practice on, I have taken to attempting the application of these techniques on larger landscaping rocks (in Alaska large rocks/small boulders pass as suitable landscaping accoutrement). So far not real adept, actually down right clumsy. #bashedmyskidplate But I'll keep at it until I get it or the snow flies, whichever comes first! Thank you Mr. Morris for another outstanding video.
@crosstrainingenduro
@crosstrainingenduro 9 жыл бұрын
+gncc1race "accoutrement" would have to be the fanciest word ever used in a youtube comment... :) isn't it awesome when it all comes together occasionally? lately i've taken to bunny hopping over roots and ruts even on steep climbs and it's such a good feeling to not feel a thing as the bike sails over stuff i used to slam into then grind to a halt. and occasionally there's a big hole in the track but just use a small rock as a kicker and fly over it. so so SO cool when it happens!!! vid of you tackling the alaskan rocks or it never happened, lol.

Unfortunately I'm not a videographer, and I ride alone, so... When I get to where I can accomplish it with a measure of grace, then maybe I'll find a way to get a third person video of it. Until then, use your imagination... Short fat man, tall skinny motorcycle (...explains why my balance has been so well developed!), dented skid plate. LOL!!

I haven't really trained with any advanced log crossing and I came to a felled tree at an angle in the road. It fell so that I was driving into an acute angle and it was elevated off the ground and had a slope angle too. If that wasn't enough, theres a drainage ditch right below it. I wonder how easily someone else could have crossed it. I didnt lol

Also thanks for showing how to go over diagonal slippery logs because that's is the kind I always get but for your riding it's always really wide open I have tons of overhang and the trails are maybe 3 to 4 feet wide 4 feet if it really opens up so it's kind if hard to apply these techniques when your worried that you might get closelined or that your bark busters will hit a tree and your bike will go somewhere to the side as you fly forwards

Then I jump on my 290lb klx300r with half the power, and feel like I got to rev it so much more lol. I think in the end, the lower power is better for learning since I can't loop it so easily.

If I was younger I'd love to redo a lot of the training vids using a DRZ400 or a DR650 for some of the techniques. Definitely needs a bit more focus on technique to lift the front wheel... these two strokes are so light and punchy it can cover up sloppy technique lol.

just a question, im new to cross riding and am getting my new 690 enduro r in a week or 2 so was wondering about skidplates and how mutch they can handle like if i hit a rock at speed does it totally protect my engine or is the skidplate mounted to the engine and sending the energy to the engine or is it mounted to the frame.? because i see u balansing the bike on the skidplate so how mutch can the skidplate take? will it crack and breake befor your enginecasing?
@crosstrainingenduro
@crosstrainingenduro 8 жыл бұрын
+IdCrisis each bike is a bit different but they all mount to the bike frame in one way or another. the alloy rarely cracks but usually just bends a bit if you hit rocks really hard. a decent skidplate can take very big hits. we like the force accessories and also B&B stuff here in australia. guys in the US buy it sometimes too, especially when our dollar is low like it is at the moment.

At the end where it says "detailed vids available " where are those? Are they the individual vids on your blog site?
@crosstrainingenduro
@crosstrainingenduro 9 жыл бұрын
+otpipe at seven seconds into the vid it says "this is an overview, there are specific vids on the way". then at the end, it says "these are coming over the next few weeks". so they aren't even posted yet but will be. over the next few weeks. :)

how fast can you go over a medium size log, 20 inch and up? 2nd gear? or first gear?

What a bunch of toss. Everyone knows soiling your pants is an integral part of getting over a log that is higher than your handlebars. Great vid man!

Is it easier to do these techniques (generally speaking) with stiffer suspension? Say, mx bike vs. dual sport?
@crosstrainingenduro
@crosstrainingenduro 3 жыл бұрын
Hard to say Dan, for some bits a soft trials-style setup will be better. The much heavier weight of a dual sport will make things harder even if softer suspension might help.
@danmanthe9335
@danmanthe9335 3 жыл бұрын
@@crosstrainingenduro I'm sure the softer power of a ds doesn't make things easier. Guess I just have to pull harder on the bars
@crosstrainingenduro
@crosstrainingenduro 3 жыл бұрын
But if you watch the rest of the training vids (especially 'small practical wheelie'), you'll see pulling on the bars usually doesn't work.

@@crosstrainingenduro I'll be honest, I have watched a lot of your videos but certainly not all of them. The wheelie thing is a new chapter for me.

+alani 201 michelin comp 3. a lot of guys complain about them but i liked them. very light tyre, flexible carcass, soft rubber compound so they suit our style of riding. but if heavy handed on the throttle they would wear fast.

Criticism of every log video, not picking on this one… when you come across a log in the wild it is usually on a narrow trail, with obstruction on both sides, at an angle, bark-less and wet.. dry logs in a field are a lot easier!:)
