Great video (as always). Clutter is a huge trigger for me (I took care of my packrat/hoarder/Depression-era dad for thirteen years). I came up with a set of rules that I live by. Unfortunately, my best friend/former roommate does not follow them, resulting me moving out. Rules of the house If you bring it into the room, take it out of the room. If you drop it, pick it up. If it’s empty, throw it out. If you make a mess, clean it up. If it’s a dirty item, put it in the sink or the hamper. When you’re done with something… If it’s a blanket, fold it up. If it’s a glass or a dish, put it in the sink. If it’s a game, put it away.

Those shouldn’t even be rules. That’s just decency when living with or visiting someone. If it’s your own house, by yourself, then do your thing, but don’t make a house uncomfortable or messy for someone else or when you’re a guest.
@HeronCoyote123411 ай бұрын
The reason I wrote those is to make it easier to keep up with stuff. This prevents the “ohmygawd the house is a disaster and I have company coming over” or “it’s so hard to dust/vacuum/mop with all this garbage I have to pick up first” excuses. It’s the same as “wash as you go” when cooking.

I live in Canada. I bought some thermal insulating black out liners from home depot, cut them to size, and sewed them on to the backsides of my living room and bedroom drapes. My place is nicely temperature controlled and the black out feature is nice for the bedroom.

Thank you for sharing your insights. I enjoy it when you add comments regarding different tropical area temperature adjustment in the home vs. someone who may live in an area with very cold winters.

Agree with all your points! I have noticed amongst the homes I have visited be it family or friends is that those who are sensitive to harmony and beauty tend to have better interior. It is innate. Those who don’t see clutter and trash all around on a daily would not care about living space no matter what. It is just not important to them. Sometimes a dirty and cluttered home is temporary due to new babies or depression. Those who care may not have the taste and knowledge to elevate. Watching your videos will be very helpful to tweak.

In German rental contracts it even sometimes say that you must fully open windows twice a day for 10-15 minutes.

It's so relaxing to nurture the minimal discipline it takes to be clean. Not because it's just part of being an adult, but because it's so much better for your (and your family's) physical and psychological well-being to come home to and live in a clean and organized home. It's also not even that much of an ask. It's minimal discipline to hang your coat in the closet instead of throwing it on a chair/floor, to put dishes in the dishwasher/just wash them as you cook, immediately fold the blanket you were just using when you're done, to set a 5 minute timer in the evening and wipe down the kitchen/bathroom counters and walk behind a Swiffer around the floor while listening to an audiobook or something. And get rid of crap you don't use. 9 our of 10 times, sentimental value is nonsense. "This tattered jacket reminds me of that time in highschool." Cool (but not really at all). Write it down in a journal and throw the stupid jacket away.

Bathroom is tricky due to moisture, but I'd say shutters is the best choice (albeit expensive and have to be made custom). Roller blind is affordable, but I'd hate having to roll them up and down. Venetian works but you have to get PVC (not timber as they may warp), but they might look dated depending on the bathroom. Otherwise if you don't need to look outside, and just need privacy while still allowing sunlight in, just get a window privacy film from bunnings, amazon or 3M.
@SRM202511 ай бұрын
@@reynardlowell Hand to heart thank you for your time and knowledge. I think I will go with your suggestion of the roller blind option or PVC shutters , I have privacy film already yet just wish to make the room less bright as it is to bright at times and makes me squint. So helpful as always, thanks so much. ☮️

I like most of the points in the video, but I definitely think rugs are not the way to go to make a more inviting home. Many times they feel out of place, have uninteresting/noisy designs, or add more to clutter.
