What we've found fun in our family of 4. Before each season starts we sit down and have a "draft". 1 NFC, 1 AFC & 1 "wild card". You can keep one of your picks from last year. Those are the teams each person roots for all season. All 4 of us have a favorite team we almost always pick/keep and then we have 2 additional teams to root for. Every year the person who's team does the best gets a little prize and bragging rights next year. We've moved a bit and for a while we've been in a place with no NFL team, my kids really haven't grown up with a hometown team so this makes it fun

09:58 hold up now, I’ve been a fan since 1989 of my Kansas City Chiefs, when I moved there. I moved away in mid 90’s (not my fault, I was a juvenile and my parents had to move) and I’ve never faltered, even if we were the worst team in the league, at times. So don’t sit here and say that you can’t be a Kansas City fan from the very beginning if you don’t live in the greater Kansas City area. But unless you’re a small child that has gravitated towards our juggernaut, you don’t get to come over and be a fan now.

My earliest memory is watching SB XXXI with my dad and him getting so pissed he threw the TV out an open window, but still, I think I missed out on a lot of the suffering which came from being a Patriots fan before the Belichick Era. I mean, we had Bledsoe. To my mind, gatekeeping over sports fandom is almost as silly as being pretentious about food or wine. What exactly do you feel you've earned by being a fan of a team over a longer period over someone who just jumped in because they like watching a certain player?
