My theory on the Will Smith game is that it was supposed to be an "I Am Legend" game but after the "Slapgate" scandal with Will, the owner of the franchise probably wanted to disassociate from Will, butttttt...Will had probably already signed a contract with the game developers, so they were forced to still create a game using his likeness, just not with the "I Am Legend" branding, hence "Undawn" aka we have "I Am Legend" at home

Mass layoffs are not about not having enough money. They're about share price. Layoffs make share price go up. Axing divisions make stock price go up. Redlining projects make stock price go up. So you time your layoffs with the release of other bad news that would make the price go down. Or you move money around to get a liability off the books, which would make stock price go down, so the benefit of the layoff offsets the bad news to shareholders. Layoffs and other cuts make it look like you're being cost-conscious, which shareholders disproportionately value over other things.

WB doesnt know that the mobile market is a lot more volatile than the PC/Console market. Look at Apex Mobile, dead game, big AF release, no one cared because we were all too busy playing COD Mobile (after PUBG Mobile started flooding with cheaters)

By that logic free to play games should be goated. But its not the case. Often not anyway. The difference is in content with the base game, what the dlcs get you and the accessibility to those dlcs with in-game currency.

Dunno if you'll read this, but Yuzu was taken down by nintendo because they spent a lot of time in their discord talking about and spreading links for piracy of TOTK. It has nothing to do with emulation, the Yuzu team basically explicitly supported piracy within their official communication channels.

That Undawn game is one of those mobile game that's been around for a minute and used those anime girl sniping ads and that she's in trouble and you need to save her, like you get them between your checking your friends Snaps or between reels on Insta. Games that typically flop and make news about flopping get a cult following that denies all the flaws in the game for a couple of months. But it's special to them because no one else plays it. Super specific, but I've seen it many a time before.

Well, it's not hard to understand why EA is still not only around, but still on top. The answer is simple: people are dumb. Look at how easily people are manipulated by politics. No matter what their views are, if someone spends a great deal of time in the political spaces, they blindly follow "their party". It's pretty wild actually. And when it comes to games, it's no different. Big game, with pretty graphics comes out, gets hyped, millions not only buy the game, but pre order it. I've got a friend that gets the new Madden, and new NBA game, every year. And they're EXCITED about it, and even spend money in the store, get deluxe editions, etc; THAT'S how EA stays ahead: entice the lowest common denominator. Honestly, about 80% of gamers fall into that category too, so it's an overwhelming majority. Very few are discerning, play multiple genres/styles, but only what they really want, and don't fall for hype or marketing.

Tim Sweeny's comment is pure comedy considering Valve's cut is literally the same as the retail cut, which means it's literally cheaper than retail as you're not paying for packing, disks, etc. Not to mention the cut scales down as the game sells more. As you mentioned, the cut clearly isn't the thing that's preventing users from wanting to use Epic - they give out multiple free games every month and STILL can't get people to move over because their UI, community systems, and platform is far worse than Steam. Not to mention that the definition of monopoly means you own the means to production - which valve absolutely doesn't. Anyone can upload games onto Steam, which is why there is so much hentai garbage on the front page every day. This & the WB story are just more examples of how terrible the leadership of these large gaming companies is, and it's hurting the industry in a significant way. I wish companies were more willing to hire people from my generation who have a solid understanding of what's going on instead of continuing to ruin lives and games with unfounded greed and lies.

Not so fun fact that i got reminded of for the first story about people getting hacked, when they recommended people change their discord emails.... If you lose access to your email account, you can't change the email tied to your discord account. They don't have a service for that and supports staff response is just "We can't help you, make a new discord account instead". It's kinda wild that they're one of the most high profile services people use a lot, yet they don't have a way to update ones email if one loses access to it. (That's what i learned 1-2 years ago when i lost my main email, Steam being the absolute easiest to resolve, almost every other page or service will demand more account information to confirm before they fix it, but Microsoft & Discord absolutely refuses, support staff can't do anything in either case since microsoft do security things through automated processes and all support can do is try to advice you what kind of answers the security algorithm prefers, and discord just plain out doesn't offer that service ...unless you can confirm it through the email you're trying to replace, very much a "Keyboard not detected, press any key to continue" situation).

Helldivers has been great but as of late I have had an awful experience. Falling through floors, weapons not functioning, enemies being able to teleport or infinitely spawn and I do mean infinity, mission objectives not being possible to complete and so much more. The other day my character got stuck in the animation of holding a canister even though I didn’t have one, I could still shoot my gun but only into the air given the way my hands and arms were stuck.

Regarding that bit about how developers would have flocked to Epic games had it been that the fees were cheap in 9:27 About that, I believe one major reason why developers never really put much thought into Epic games was because of how difficult it was to get their games there without either: A. Having a very popular launch title B. Being a AAA company or an established IP C. Building the game with Unreal Engine or D. Getting some help from a publisher. This later got changed back in 2023, but the whole thing was a little too late. And frankly that was a dumb move on Epic's part.🤦🏾‍♂ And on a little more personal note given how much beef I have with Steam thanks to the region lock they dropped on my country, I sadly have to side with Epic games or GoG on this. Steam has too much of an annoying monopolistic control over games getting released.😑

It’s “Free to Play” not “Free to Enjoy”. When anyone spends money on those games it just funds more of them and potentially makes them even less fair because they know they can get away with it :/ Those games also don’t usually have any ending so they’re kinda unsatisfying because you only move on when you get tired of the game, not when there’s a satisfying ending.

People can say, "Games as a service suck!" all they want, but they show publishers it can work just fine with games like Helldivers 2 & Palworld... Just like you pointed out in the video, games as a service CAN be good, and that's all these execs need to hear. Make a few tweaks here & there, and they'll be rolling in the dough for years to come! Or at least that's what they think will happen. As good as Helldivers 2 is, it's the worst thing that could happen if you want games as a service to go away. 😅

The problem with the Steam and Epic issue is that while Epic do take less commission if you actually put a game on Epic for lower than it's being sold for on Steam then according to the Steam contract that's a breach and they can terminate your game on Steam for daring to undercut them with a game you own on another storefront. Steams contract is a joke and also it means whether we as consumers use Epic or Steam the price is, for now, always going to be the same regardless of the lesser commission on Epic. If Epic did it to incentivize publishers then it worked but with Steams contract in place that increased revenue to the publisher does not translate into savings for the consumer and that sucks. One thing that has happened recently however is Epic have tried to address this by offering money back from your purchases so technically you are still saving money and Steam can't do a damn thing about it.
