Great ideas, except the burning of that tent peg, you should have just used the shavings. And saved the rest of the peg for more fire starters or some other use later. Most plastics can be shredded for fire starters. Preparing that match should have been done at home. With vaseline or nail polish, prior to trying to survive, out in the bush, but yes, it's still a great idea. Using a straw or that plant as a blow pipe for starting a fire works great.

For your pine pitch torch, you can quad-split a fatwood branch the same way and just light the fatwood end. A two inch diameter branch used as a torch like this will burn for 4-6 hours. For tinder, carry a pencil sharpener. Yes, the little plastic ones. Just find a dry branch the approximate diameter and twist as much tinder as you need.

Have you watched any Les Hiddens videos? He's also know as The Bush Tucker Man (tucker is old fashioned Australian slang for food). He became famous in the 1990s for his t.v shows. His knowledge regarding survival is 2nd to none. These skills can be transferred to any country with wilderness type places.

great tips! for water purification I've heard of ppl filtering bad water through a small piece of pine. The set up being 2 plastic water bottles joined at the necks with a tight seal using a piece of pine branch, the top water bottle full of bad water which slowly filters through the pine wood into the bottom bottle

You know some cool stuff, that's for sure. I so miss camping. I have an entire shed of camping and outdoor gear just sitting and gathering dust. Every year I tell the wife I'm going back into our mountain's. But I never do. Me and my cousin ran into an animal that is not suppose to exist. She almost killed both of us. And we were both armed. Sheer luck saved us. I think it was divine intervention. But it was a bloody awful incident. My cousin moved to the city and has never gone into the mountains since. I do, but I'm armed to the teeth. I look like a pirate. But as the sun sets, I'm always back out. I used to be known for my woods craft. I was trained and mentored by a Cree Indian he was my best friend too. He had a lot of stories about them. I never dreamed in a million years I'd be ambushed by one ,ya know. Never go into the mountains or vast unpopulated areas without a 45 or bigger. I have #3 44's a BFR, and 45's Glock 20 etc. I also carry an Alexander Arms 50 Beowulf, or AK, or AR's as well, and a Hawk made in India and a Cold Steel Frontier Bowie. Both razors sharp. And I'm still afraid. That #1 incident changed my whole life. But it's different "when you know"" they are actually out there. And they are. And they aren't friendly at all. Peace.

But boy oh boy do I get a lot of nice comments and people telling me how deranged I am. And just nice people. Same with the early American Indians and settlers from the 16th century till present they had a lot to gain too. I'm sure they were made fun of too. I guess they had a lot to gain too. Liars and frauds one and all. Peace.
